  • In traditional production lines, such as assembly lines, each worker is usually assigned to a particular fixed work, and decreasing the task to master the assigned work is valuated. However, when an imbalance exists between workers' speeds, if a worker delays the overall work in the production line, the production rate of the particular line will also decrease. To avoid this problem, the "Self-Balancing Production Line" was introduced. In this type of production line, each worker is assigned work dynamically, and when specific conditions are satisfied, production remains balanced. Characteristics of these lines that can be preempted at any place have already been analyzed by some researchers. A previous paper examined the situation in which only a single worker can process one machine and cannot preempt processing, and the improved policy of an ordinary selfbalancing production line, which specifies which stations workers can process and how workers can behave. This policy achieveda high production rate with only four stations and two workers (Buzacott, 2002). In that paper, worker processing stations and the behavior of a specific worker were limited, andthe paper focused only on specific stations and workers. Therefore, it is not applicable to any worker sequence. In this paper, we focus on other ways to decrease cycle time. In this kind of line, a worker processes at his or her speed. Therefore, if a worker is assigned stations according to his or her speed, the line can decrease cycle time. To do so, we relax the assumptions of this type of line and set a new condition. Under these conditions, we compare our results to the results of previous papers.

  • New self-assembled discotic liquid crystals have been prepared through single hydrogen bonding between phenol and pyridine moieties, and their liquid crystalline properties were investigated. For the construction of discotic structure, we used phloroglucinol as a core molecule and trans-4-alkoxy-4'-stilbazoles with systematically varied alkyl chain lengths as peripheral units. FTIR results showed that the intermolecular hydrogen bonds between core and peripheral molecules are successfully formed, and the stability of the hydrogen bond is strongly influenced by molecular ordering. Discotic complexes exhibited different liquid crystalline phases depending on the length of alkyl chains around the discotic mesogen. The discotic complexes with longer alkyl chains showed hexagonal columnar mesophases, while the other complexes formed nematic columnar mesophases. These results indicated that the type of mesophase structure was strongly dependent on the alkyl chain length around the aromatic core.

  • Nowadays the preschool children spend much of the day playing indoors. Therefore, it needs the indoor environment that helps a variety of fun activities and physical development, and it requires the space configuration and playable furniture considering the emotional development for mental health. However, the furniture for fast growing preschoolers has not various types because the domestic furniture market for children is mostly baby beds and the furniture for the education of children. Therefore, this study presents the concepts and types of the playable furniture reflecting emotional design for preschool children's healthy emotion and suggests the most appropriate type of playable furniture considering play behavior by age. In this study, we investigated the physical, cognitive, social, emotional and linguistic development characteristics and play behavior of preschoolers, and derived the right type of playground equipment and furniture, and examined the types of playable furniture to help the emotional development. We derived the items to be checked for developing the playable furniture by age for emotional development, and classified preschoolers' playable furniture into the use of learning, relaxation and storage, and suggested its basic type focusing on the cases of various playable furniture developed at home and abroad. As a result, the playable furniture was divided into three types. The first is the self-play type making possible self amusement, the second is module built-up-type that consists of furniture and modules or units and creates various patterns and can be modified through the self-assembly and disassembly, and the third is IT game type grafting IT skills and a variety of electronic games to furniture. We sorted these types into three classes (1-3 years old, 4-5, 6-7) according to age and presented the type of play for each age, the play element and representative image that can be introduced to this furniture. In this study, we provided the basic design types of age-specific emotional playable furniture by analyzing these results.

  • In this review, the fabrication of silicon based memory capacitor and organic memory thin film transistors (TFTs) was discussed for their potential identification tag applications and biosensor applications. Metal or non-metal nanoparticles (NPs) could be capped with chemicals or biomolecules such as protein and oligo-DNA, and also be self-assembly monolayered on corresponding target biomolecules conjugated dielectric layers. The monolayered NPs were formed to be charging elements of a nano floating gate layer as forming organic memody deivces. In particular, the strong and selective binding events of the NPs through biomolecular interactions exhibited effective electrostatic phenomena in memory capacitors and TFTs formats. In addition, memory devices fabricated as organic thin film transistors (OTFTs) have been intensively introduced to facilitate organic electronics era on flexible substrates. The memory OTFTs could be applicable eventually to the development of new conceptual devices.

  • We have synthesized a high electrically conductive 4-(2-(4-(acetylthio)phenyl)ethynyl)benzoic acid (APBA) with a conjugated aromatic structure as a bio fix linker, and then fabricated APBA self-assembled monolayer (SAM) with a self-assembly technique. The structure of the prepared APBA SAM was studied and electrochemical properties of APBA SAM immobilized with a ferrocene molecule were investigated. Also, we have examined the molecular orientation and oxidation-reduction redox characteristics of the mixed SAM consisting of APBA and butanethiol (BT) with a X-ray photo electron spectroscopy (XPS) and cyclicvoltammetry, respectively. Electrochemical activity of the mixed SAM was increased with increasing the mixed time. Especially, the maximum redox current was obtained at a mixed time of 36 hrs.

  • Presented are the STM images of self-assembled monolayer of 2-mercaptoethanol on Au(111). Striped structures of ($6{\times}3_{\frac{1}{2}}$), ($5{\times}3_{\frac{1}{2}}$), ($4{\times}3_{\frac{1}{2}}$) and compact-($5{\times}3_{\frac{1}{2}}$) were observed after annealing at $80^{\circ}C.$ Analysis of the ordered structures revealed that the basic fundamental units of the ordered structures were three crystallographically non-equivalent ($3_{\frac{1}{2}}{\times}3_{\frac{1}{2}}$) $R30^{\circ}$ assemblies, and that the way of combination of the assemblies produced the four different structures. The($6{\times}3_{\frac{1}{2}}$) structure ( $\theta$ = 0.33) was composed of one ($3_{\frac{1}{2}}{\times}3_{\frac{1}{2}}$)$R30^{\circ}$ assembly, while the ($5{\times}3_{\frac{1}{2}}$) ( $\theta$ = 0.30) and ($4{\times}3_{\frac{1}{2}}$) ( $\theta$ = 0.38) structures were consisted of two ($3_{\frac{1}{2}}{\times}3_{\frac{1}{2}}$) $R30^{\circ}$ assemblies, separated by 5a and 4a, respectively. Furthermore, the compact-(5X 3½) structure ( $\theta$ = 0.50) was obtained by overlapping three ($3_{\frac{1}{2}}{\times}3_{\frac{1}{2}}$) $R30^{\circ}$ assemblies. In spite of the diversity in the adsorption structures, all the adsorption sites of 2-mercaptoethanol were fundamentally identical. On the other hand, the unannealed primitive SAM of 2-mercaptoethanol was characterized by two observations: a short-range order keeping the adsorbed molecules at approximately $3_{\frac{1}{2}}$ a and the small domains of the striped structures supporting that the observed surface structures on the annealed surface were the extension of the primitive layer of 2-mercaptoethanol. Comparing these observations with the already published structures of ethanthiol, it was concluded that the interaction between the hydroxyl groups of 2-mercaptoethanol might play a significant role in the adsorption step of 2-mercaptoethanol on Au(111) to organize the adsorption structures different from those of ethanthiol.

  • $Gd_2O_3:Eu^{3+}$ red phosphors were prepared by template method from crystalline cellulose impregnated by metal salt. The crystallite size and photoluminescence(PL) property of $Gd_2O_3:Eu^{3+}$ red phosphors were controlled by varying the calcination temperature and $Eu^{3+}$ mol ratio. The nano dispersion of $Gd_2O_3:Eu^{3+}$ was also conducted with a bead mill wet process. Dependent on the time of bead milling, $Gd_2O_3:Eu^{3+}$ nanosol of around 100 nm (median particle size : $D_{50}$) was produced. As the bead milling process proceeded, the luminescent efficiency decreased due to the low crystallinity of the $Gd_2O_3:Eu^{3+}$ nanoparticles. In spite of the low PL property of $Gd_2O_3:Eu^{3+}$ nanosol, it was observed that the photoluminescent property was recovered after re-calcination. In addition, in the dispersed nanosol treated at $85^{\circ}C$, a self assembly phenomenon between particles appeared, and the particles changed from spherical to rod-shaped. These results indicate that particle growth occurs due to mutual assembly of $Gd(OH)_3$ particles, which is the hydration of $Gd_2O_3$ particles, in aqueous solvent at $85^{\circ}C$.

  • Ru(II)-terpyridine complexes (8, 9, 11) linked with adamantyl or β-cyclodextrin moieties were synthesized and characterized based on their 1H and 13C NMR spectra as well as MS spectra. Ru(II)-terpyridine complexes (8, 11) linked with adamantyl moiety were readily dissolved in aqueous solution via encapsulation by β-cyclodextrin when they were mixed with an equimolar amount of β-cyclodextrin. In the similar way, the adamantane guest of the Ru(II)-terpyridine complexes (8, 11) were encapsulated by β-cyclodextrin moiety of the ruthenium complex 9 to afford supramolecular assemblies in aqueous environment. Formation of assemblies was corroborated by 1H NMR spectroscopy.

  • Welding deformation causes critical problems under construction and in use of steel structures by varying the magnitude of the steel structures and deteriorating mechanic strength. Existing method to construct steel structures in civil engineering needs preassembly process for a part of or the whole structures on a broad space to examine the size of structures inevitably varied in the process of welding (assembly process). It leads to waste of time, space and human efforts, worry of safety accidents with the characteristic of the work to be performed on a high place, and non-efficiency and non-economy by using such supplementary equipments as crane. This paper, to remove the needless preassembly process by pre-estimating welding deformation produced under construction of large steel structures, devises a method modeling welded part for applying the equivalence load method and examines the effects of welding sequence and self weight on welding deformation by the method.
