Characterization of Organochlorine Insecticide Endosulfan-Degrading Bacterium Isolated from Seaside Sediment (갯벌에서 분리한 유기염소계 살충제 Endosulfan 분해 세균의 특성)

  • An endosulfan degrading bacterial strain, K-1321, was isolated by endosulfan-enrichment culture from a seaside sediment collected at Dadaepo Beach, Busan, Korea. The strain was identified as a Serratia sp. based on the results of morphological, biochemical and 16S rDNA homology analyses. Serratia sp. K-1321 was able to completely degrade 50 ppm endosulfan in culture media and soil within 6 weeks at $25^{\circ}C$. GC/MS analysis revealed that endosulfan diol was an intermediate of the bacterial endosulfan degradation. Considering the above results, we concluded that Serratia sp. K-1321 utilized endosulfan as a carbon source and metabolized endosulfan via a less toxic pathway, such as the formation of endosulfan diol as an intermediate.

A study on Sea-salt distribution of High-rise Apartments in Waterfront Area (워터프런트 지역 고층아파트의 해염분포에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the concentration of sea-salt distribution giving great characteristic environmentally. Therefore the field measurement was conducted to target high-rise apartments constructing in reclaimed land of Busan and measured the concentration of sea-salt by means of distance and height of high-rise apartments from coast. The results of this study were as follows ; 1) The more a horizontal distance is far from coast, the more concentration sea-salt become low. But this study can not draw conclusion exactly as differ from a tendency of the thing close to the coast and the land. 2) In the near seaside, No.132 apartment accords existing research result that in difference of the concentration of sea-salt by height, the more height is high, the more that is high. But in seaside, No.117 apartment of middle point appears that the upper story and the lower story than middle story. Once more, in inland, No.132 apartment and No.117 apartment tend toward opposite it of the seaside. The reason that the result of this measurement and existing study is not agreement is thought that it occurs to turbulent flow between apartments by construction of high-rise apartments group.

Concern and Improvement of the Ocean Environment by Vocational High School Students in a Seaside City (임해도시 실업계 고등학교 학생의 해양환경에 대한 관심과 개선방안)

  • The purpose of this study is to prepare the way for the prevention and improvement of the ocean environment pollution and destruction by researching and analyzing the degree of interests in the ocean environment which the students of seaside vocational high schools have. The concerns of this study are as follows: 1. The vocational high school students in the seaside cities of Busan and Pohang have recognized that the ocean is the object of the highest potential of development and that through the degree of their recognition that they should better preserve the ocean environment prior to a high degree of local seaside development. 2. Although they have recognized that the ocean environment has a great influence on the life of people, their interests in the environment is low. Also, it is shown that they get their knowledge and information through TV. 3. They've understood that the main factor of ocean contamination concerns the home and the causes of ocean contamination are sewage and waste material from daily life. Moreover, their answers reveal that they believe that they should participate in a sanitization activity for the ocean environment voluntarily and put trash into nearby trash cans as opposed to inconsiderately throwing away trash on the beach. 4. Their answers also show that they recognize the elements that can best preserve the ocean environment start at home and with government, and school services through experience activities are the most effective for the education of the ocean environment.

  • This paper describes to experiments on the estimation of tourist images in Busan. Preliminary tasks were performed to find out the condition of tourism souvenir and products proper to ocean city with situation in Busan. This survey analyzed by factor analysis taken in local residents, foreigners and other city. Result of factor analysis shows that the local residents and others think of Busan as similar image both. Outsider recognized Busan to tourist attractions of seaside environment and tourist facilities, and have good image of sightseeing and shopping in city. The local people remind Busan as progressive, feels sweet, activity, friendly image beside that foreign tourist remind as clean, modern, abundant, and others think as stable, changing, novelty, friendly. To abstract 8 factors among the images, take out of relevance to condition of tourist and image factors. Important factors for development of tourist industry in Busan are a feeling safe, clean, novelty in priority. And find way that enhancing image to abundant, friendly, activity were proper to tourist industry.

Study of Summer Season High Temperature Events in Busan (부산지역의 하계 도시열환경의 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The frequency of tropical nights and tropical days in Busan during summer season (June-August) from 1995 to 2004 were investigated. When air temperature higher than $25^{\circ}C$ continuously maintains at night in summer, it is called the occurrence of tropical night. Tropical day is defined that maximum air temperature is higher than $30^{\circ}C$, In Jin-Gu and Daeyeon-dong shows a lot of frequency of tropical day and tropical night because there were located in downtown. Relatively, the areas where are located in seaside and riverside show very low frequency. This can be explained the cooling effects of sea and river. The main meteorological characteristics during tropical nights and tropical days is proved pattern of reverse tendency through wind rose. We analyzed heat index and discomfort index during tropical night and tropical day. This study is useful to understand the aspect of urban thermal environment but need some more observation to quantify.

Flora and Distribution of Evergreen Plants in Busan (부산의 상록식물상과 분포)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the flora and distribution of evergreen plants in Busan from February 2003 to September 2004. A total of 68 evergreen plant taxa belonging to 33 families, 51 genera, 60 species, and 8 varieties were recognized in Busan. 9 species was included in evergreen plant taxa such as Akebia quinata, Rosa wichuraiana, Osmanthus heterophyllus, Lonicera japonica, Lonicera japonica var. repens, and Carex boottiana. In the forests of evergreen, the canopy consisted of tall trees such as Pinus thunbergii, and understatum trees such as Eurya japonica, Elaegnus macrophylla, and Euonymus japonica. Herb layer consisted of Rubus hirsutus, Hedera rhombea, and Trachelospermum asiaticum var. intermedium. In addition to evergreen plant communities, the patchy spaced communities occurred Neolitsea sericea-Cinnamomum japonicum community, Ficus erecta community, Hedera rhombea-Trachelospermum asiaticum var. intermedium community, Ardisia japonica community, Gleichenia dichotoma community, and G. Japonica community. For rate of appearance of species in 23 sites, 13 species was appeared more than 50% and 29 species less than 10%. There was marked a decrease in the number (density) of evergreen according to the geographic distances from seaside to inland.

  • The RC buildings which are constructed on the seaside are followed by KBC(2016) to achieve the minimization of durability damage. To control the corrosion of the reinforced steel bar by salt attack, W/C should be under 0.4 and specified concrete strength is more than 35MPa in the concrete/building construction standard specification. Ready mixed concretes which have usually include the admixtures in Busan were tested to certify the salt attack durability. In the same specified concrete strength, remarkable salt attack durability was evaluated in comparison to OPC.

Production of Flood Expectation Map in the Reclaimed Land Using 3-D Spatial Information (3차원 공간정보를 이용한 해안 매립지역 침수예상도 제작)

  • Recently, coastal damage according to the natural disaster like storm-surge, overflowing of the sea has been massively increased. In case of earth fill at the seaside, there are a lot of weak areas of the natural disaster and it has also high possibility that a large disaster happens. Thus flood expectation map in the reclaimed land using 3D spatial information was produced in this study. The area around Myungji, Kangsugu, Busan which was made with the large scale earth fils at the seaside was designated as a study area. Observation of both costal datum and ground height using the tidal date and field surveying dates was conducted. Terrain model using the GIS program was produced and than 3D building model was produced using 3D MAX. It was shown that there are possibility more than 50% if over 4.5m storm-surge is happening, as a result of calculating the virtual flooded area on the produced cartographic map.
