  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of the differentiated instruction in mathematics by a meta-analysis. Among the studies conducted for last twenty three years, the relevant 49 research articles were selected, 80 effect sizes were calculated for the cognitive domain and 70 effect sizes for the affective domain. Effect sizes were analyzed with school levels, student level, group organization method such as homogeneous vs. heterogeneous, class transfer and adjusting class sizes for each cognitive domain and affective domain. The results are as the followings: In the cognitive domain, the overall effect size of the differentiated instruction produced a medium effect(effect size=0.68, U3=75.17%). The differentiated instruction showed the highest effect size on elementary school and middle school, mid level students, heterogeneous group, class transfer and not adjusted class size. And in the affective domain, the overall effect size of the differentiated instruction produced a low effect(effect size=0.36, U3=65.36%). The differentiated instruction showed the highest effect size on elementary school, mid level students, and heterogeneous group. Thus the differentiated instruction was proved to be effective in mathematics classes.

  • This study investigates the wearing conditions and satisfaction level of middle school boys' uniforms. The subjects for the survey were 626 male students from 9 middle schools in Seoul. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 14.0 program. The results of this study are as follows; 1) When purchasing school uniforms, students considered the comfort and the fit important. Student considered importantly the shoulder width of jacket, the shirt length and the sleeve length of shirt, and the pant length and the pant width of pants. 2) Most of students purchased one size bigger school uniforms because they need to wear school uniforms for three years. About 80% of students had difficulties in understanding the meaning of size label, and this made it difficult to select the right size of school uniforms even if they knew their body size exactly. 3) About 10% of students repurchased school uniforms because their school uniforms did not fit any more. The periods of repurchase were the 1st grade 2nd semester and the 2nd grade 1st semester. 4) The waist circumference of pants and the pant width were evaluated larger and the pant length was evaluated to be longer (36.6% of students evaluated that the pant length was longer). Compared to 2nd grade and 3rd grade, the freshman felt that school uniforms were bigger. 5) 44.9% of students had the experience of repairing their school uniforms. The most frequent reason for repair was that the size of school uniforms did not fit well. 202 students repaired the pant length and 86.1% of them reduced their pant length.

  • Fe-TiC composite was fabricated from Fe and TiC powders by high-energy milling and subsequent spark-plasma sintering. The microstructure, particle size and phase of Fe-TiC composite powders were investigated by field emission scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction to evaluate the effect of milling conditions on the size and distribution of TiC particles in Fe matrix. TiC particle size decreased with milling time. The average TiC particle size of 38 nm was obtained after 60 minutes of milling at 1000 rpm. Prepared Fe-TiC powder mixture was densified by spark-plasma sintering. Sintered Fe-TiC compacts showed a relative density of 91.7~96.2%. The average TiC particle size of 150 nm was observed from the FE-SEM image. The microstructure, densification behavior, Vickers hardness, and fracture toughness of Fe-TiC sintered compact were investigated.

  • In terms of junior high school girls' growth patterns during early adolescence, are unlike childhood when relatively balanced growth patterns are found and high school years in which the normal adult body type is nearly reached, growth patterns displayed are imbalanced and rapid. In fact, diverse size changes by body part growth occur significantly different from individual to individual. Therefore, it has been hard for junior high school students to select their proper size when buying school uniforms. This study attempted to acquire basic data needed to address adolescent body shapes and school uniform patterns for junior high school girls, using the data from the 7th Size Korea Survey (2015). Specifically, it provides basic data for the development of school uniform patterns through the classification of their body into particular types, After extracting body shape components and a cluster analysis using ANOVA. According to a factor analysis conducted to determine body shape components, six factors were obtained: Factor 1: bulk and horizontal size, Factor 2: body height and length, Factor 3: shoulder shape and length, Factor 4: shape of upper body, Factor 5: lower drop, Factor 6: upper drop with a variance of 81.46%. To classify junior high school girls' body shape and determine their characteristics, a cluster analysis was performed with the variables obtained using factor analysis. Body shape was classified into three different types: Type 1 accounted for 30.7%. This was a short, slender body with the smallest bulk, size, and upper drop. Type 2 accounted for 24.9%. This was the largest in bulk and horizontal size and highest and length as well. Type 3 accounted for 44.5%. This type was close to average in terms of horizontal size, length and height, and high drop values. To develop school uniforms with great accuracy and body fit for junior high school students, there should be further studies on changes in body shape and their causes. The study results can serve as basic data for comparing branded school uniform patterns for junior high school girls and developing school uniform patterns based on body shape, using 3D virtual clothing simulations.

  • Maghemite and hematite nanospheres were synthesized by using the Sol-gel technique. The structural properties of these nanosphere powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and pore size distribution. Hematite phase shows crystalline structures. The mean particle size that resulted from BET and XRD analyses were 4.9 nm and 2 nm. It can be seen from transmission electron microscopy that the size of the particles are very small which is in good agreement with the FESEM and the X-ray diffraction. The BET and pore size method were employed for specific surface area determination.

  • The synthesis of nano-size ($Y_{0.955}Eu_{0.1}$)($P_{0.7}V_{0.45}$)$O_4$ red phosphors were conducted by using a Liquid Phase Precursor (LPP) method. In this method, cellulose pulp was used as a template showing the micro fibre structures to obtain the nano size YPV red phosphor. Aqueous solutions of raw materials were impregnated into cellulose pulp and subsequently impregnated pulp was dried and fired at $800-1200^{\circ}C$ for 1h. The effect of luminescence properties on compositions and temperatures was evaluated with photoluminescence spectrum, X-ray diffraction and FE-SEM, and TEM. High efficiency (~110%) of phosphor of size of ~500nm fired at $1150^{\circ}C$ was obtained compared with the micro size of commercial product. High efficiency behaviors of nano size phosphors were discussed in this paper.

  • School appropriate scale refers to the size of the school to minimize students' educational deficits and ensure an appropriate level of students, the number of classes, class size, etc., and maximize educational effects. Difficult set of absolute standards appropriate scale school, contemporary social situations and educational effects, and seek a comprehensive and reasonable direction, considering this is required. School appropriate scale it is preferable to consider the effect of conditions in areas such as education, curriculum, but it is common to set the range in terms of school operational effectiveness, and efficiency of education funding, school environment. So the concept of the appropriate scale including the school's status changes associated with school size, is seeking a new direction is needed so that the school environment, etc. are considered.

  • This study analyzes the body sizes of young boys in order to categorize a sizing system for middle and high school uniforms. The study was based on the $6^{th}$ National Anthropometric Survey (Size Korea 2010) data. The sample size consisted of 2,317 boys between the ages of 13 and 18 years. Most measurement items increased significantly relative to age and there was rapid growth between the ages of 13 and 14 years. The growth for the chest and hip was more than the waist. The drop value 1 (difference between chest circumference and waist circumference) and the drop value 2 (difference between hip circumference and waist circumference) increased remarkably from the age of 13 to the age of 15. Therefore, the waist size decreased and chest and hip became wider relative to the age increase. Middle school students had a smaller chest and hip circumference than high school students in the comparative body measurement results for middle school students (13-15 years) and high school students (16-18 years) of the same height group. The somatotype of high school students showed a long trunk length, broad chest and shoulder.

  • Pseudomonas diminuta (ATCC 19146) has been typically used in the bacterial challenge test for validation of the sterilizing filtration process. Cell size is critical for determining the retention characteristics of membrane filters with pore-size of $0.2{\mu}m$. The changes of cell sizes after osmotic shocks at 150, 260, 500, and 700 mosM were measured by a particle size analyzer and the changes of their buoyant densities were analyzed with a Percoll gradient. The results indicated that there were no significant differences when cells were cultured in 260 mosM medium and osmotically shocked at 500 and 700 mosM. However, the osmotically shocked cells at 150 mosM showed a 38% increase of the cell size compared to the cells at 260 mosM. From these study, we concluded that the worst case condition for validation of a sterilizing filter would be 500 mosM, not because of changes in the cell size, but due to decrease in cell viability under those conditions.
