  • In order to maximize the throughput and provide the fairness between users in MIMO-OFDM system, FATM(fairness-aware throughput maximization) scheduling algorithm was proposed. In this paper, a QoS-aware scheduling algorithms for MINO-OFDM system are proposed, each of which is based on FATM. These scheduling algorithms aim to satisfy the different service requirements of various service classes. Three proposed QoS scheduling algorithms called SPQ (Strict Priority Queueing), DCBQ (Delay Constraint Based Queuing), HDCBQ (Hybrid Delay Constraint Based Queuing) are compared through computer simulations. It is shown that HDCBQ algorithm outperforms other algorithms in satisfying different requirements of various service classes.

  • In this study, we design a scheduling system for painting shop, called HYPOS(Hyundai heavy industry Painting shop Operating System) and develop a system implementing the design. The painting shop operations are currently scheduled manually by experts. Manual scheduling is a serious time consuming job and generally can not guarantee a full optimality. Building a traditional heuristic scheduling system lot this problem, however, is not promising because there are various kinds of constraints to be satisfied including space allocation of shipbuilding blocks in a painting cell. We, therefore, adopt a spatial scheduling approach and develop scheduling algorithms based on field-oriented scheduling heuristics and computational geometry. And we show that the algorithms can successfully be applied to the painting shop scheduling problem.

  • This paper proposes arrival scheduling and advisory generation algorithms which can be used in the terminal airspace with Point-Merge procedures. The proposed scheduling algorithm consists of two steps. In the first step, the algorithm computes aircraft schedules at the entrance of the Point-Merge sequencing legs based on First-Come First-Served(FCFS) strategy. Then, in the second step, optimal sequence and schedules of all aircraft at the runway are computed using Multi-Objective Dynamic Programming(MODP) method. Finally, the advisories that have to be provided to the air traffic controllers are generated. To demonstrate the proposed algorithms, the simulation was conducted based on Jeju International Airport environments.

  • This study focuses on the problem of scheduling wafer lots of several recipe(operation condition) types in the photolithography workstation in a semiconductor wafer fabrication facility, and sequence-dependent recipe set up times may be required at the photolithography machines. In addition, a lot is able to be operated at a machine when the reticle(mask) corresponding to the recipe type is set up in the photolithography machine. We suggest various heuristic algorithms, in which developed recipe selection rules and lot selection rules are used to generate reasonable schedules to minimizing the total weighted flowtime. Results of computational tests on randomly generated test problems show that the suggested algorithms outperform a scheduling method used in a real manufacturing system in terms of the total weighted flowtime of the wafer lots with ready times.

  • In this paper, new multicast scheduling algorithms are proposed for the WDM single-hop broadcast-and-select networks. The existing multicast scheduling algorithms do not concerned the previous state of receivers, but the proposed method call H-EAR and PGM that partition a multicast group to subgroups using the tunable transmitter, state information of receivers, and pseudo group concept. the performance of proposed algorithms are evaluated through the computer simulation. They show the better Performance comparing with the existing multicast scheduling algorithm.

  • This paper considers a non-identical parallel machine scheduling problem with sequence and machine dependent setup times. The objective of this problem is to determine the allocation of jobs and the scheduling of each machine to minimize makespan. A mathematical model for optimal solution is derived. An in-depth analysis of the model shows that it is very complicated and difficult to obtain optimal solutions as the problem size becomes large. Therefore, two meta-heuristics, genetic algorithm (GA) and a new population-based evolutionary meta-heuristic called self-evolution algorithm (SEA), are proposed. The performances of the meta-heuristic algorithms are evaluated through compare with optimal solutions using randomly generated several examples.

  • Because Grid system consists of heterogenous computing resources, which are distributed on a wide scale, it is impossible to efficiently execute applications with scheduling algorithms of a conventional parallel system that, in contrast, aim at homogeneous and controllable resources. To suggest an algorithm that can fully reflect the characteristics of a grid system, our research is focused on examining the type of information used in current scheduling algorithms and consequently, deriving factors that could develop algorithms further. The results from the analysis of these algorithms not only show that static information of resources such as capacity or the number of processors can facilitate the scheduling algorithms but also verified a decrease in efficiency in case of utilizing real time load information of resources due to the intrinsic characteristics of a grid system relatively long computing time, and the need for the means to evade unfeasible resources or ones with slow processing time. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm, which is revised to reflect static information in the logic of WQR(Workqueue Replication) algorithms and show that it provides better performance than the one used in the existing method through simulation.

  • Multiprocessor architecture becomes increasingly common on real-time systems as computer hardware technology rapidly progresses and the workload of real-time systems increases. However, efficient solutions for many real-time multiprocessor scheduling problems are not known. Hence many researchers apply uniprocessor scheduling algorithms to multiprocessor scheduling or devise new algorithms based on these algorithms. Such algorithms are EDF (Earliest Deadline First), LLF (Least Laxity First), EDF-US[m/(2m-1)], and EDZL (Earliest Deadline Zero Laxity), and comparative studies on them are necessary. In this paper, we show the dominance relation of these algorithms with respect to schedulability, and we prove EDZL strictly dominates EDF. The simulation results show that EDZL has high processor utilization and it causes a small number of preemptions.

  • Multicore and multiprocessor systems with dynamic voltage scaling architectures are being used as one of the solutions to satisfy the growing needs of high performance applications with low power constraints. An important aspect that has propelled this solution is effective task/application scheduling and mapping algorithms for multiprocessor systems. This work proposes an energy aware, offline, probability-based unified scheduling and mapping algorithm for multiprocessor systems, to minimize the number of processors used, maximize the utilization of the processors, and optimize the energy consumption of the multiprocessor system. The proposed algorithm is implemented, simulated and evaluated with synthetic task graphs, and compared with classical scheduling algorithms for the number of processors required, utilization of processors, and energy consumed by the processors for execution of the application task graphs.

  • This paper focuses on production planning and scheduling problems in an assembly system operating on a make-to-order basis. Due dates are considered as constraints in the problems, that is, tardiness is not allowed. Since the planning problem is a higher-level decision making than the scheduling problem, the scheduling problem is solved using a production plan obtained by solving the planning problem. We suggest heuristic procedures in which aggregated information is used when the production planning problem is solved while more detailed information is used when the scheduling problem is solved. Since a feasible schedule may not be obtained from a production plan, an iterative approach is employed in the two procedures to obtain a solution that is feasible for both the production planning and scheduling problems. Computational tests on randomly generated test problems are done to show the performance of these algorithms, and results are reported.
