The object of this study was to investigate the effects on physical and mechanical properties of wood particle and sawdust board combined with wire net. Conventional forming, press-lam, and veneer comply boards combining one to four wire net sheets were made from wood particle and sawdust with different spacings (8, 10, 12, and 18 Mok) and different wire diameters (0.35, 0.50, and 0.80mm) composing wire net. They were compared and analyzed statistically with specific gravity, thickness swelling, length swelling, bending properties (modulus of rupture, modulus of elasticity, work to proportional limit, and total work), internal bonding strength, and screw holding strength between wood particle and sawdust boards. The results obtained at this study as cording to the discussions might be concluded as follows; 1. In specific gravity, both particle and sawdust boards by press-lam method were higher than by conventional forming and veneer comply method, and the boards containing more wire net sheets also showed higher value. But the wire net spacings(Mok) had no influence on specific gravity. In general, particle board showed higher specific gravity than sawdust board. Veneer comply board showed lowest specific gravity values. 2. Both particle and sawdust boards by press-lam method was slightly lower than by conventional forming and veneer comply method in thickness swelling. The sawdust board containing 8, 12. and 18 Mok wire net showed lower thickness swelling than the corresponding particle board, but both sawdust and particle boards containing the T8 and 10 Mok wire net showed higher and similar thickness swelling. 3. Both particle and sawdust boards containing wire net showed no difference in MOR and MOE of bending. Comply board was the highest and particle board showed slightly higher than sawdust board in MOR and MOE values. 4. In work to proportional limit and total work in bending, both particle and sawdust boards containing thicker wire diameter and more wire net sheets showed higher value. From these facts, it is conceivable that boards with thicker wire diameter and more wire net sheets show increasing resistance against external force. But there was no significant difference between particle and sawdust borads. 5. In resistance against delamination (internal bonding strength), both sawdust and particle boards containing wire net showed lower value than control, and also showed decreasing tendency with more number of wire net sheet composed. Particle board showed higher resistance against delamination than sawdust board. 6. In screw holding strength, sawdust board containing thicker wire diameter and more wire net sheets showed higher value, but particle board by press-lam method was higher than by conventional forming and veneer comply method. Screw holding strength of particle board was higher than that of sawdust board.
This study was conducted to investigate the effects of moisture content and particle size of sawdust on the fuel characteristics of wood pellets produced with Mongolian oak (Quercus mongolica, QUM), red pine (Pinus densiflora, PID) and larch (Larix kaempferi, LAK) sawdust using a flat-die pelletizer. Prior to produce wood pellets, the sawdust was controlled to the moisture content of 8, 11, 12% and was screened to the particle size of 2 and 4 mesh. In the analysis of its chemical composition, QUM had a high ash content, and PID and LAK contained large amount of lignin. In case of the fuel characteristics, PID pellets had the lowest moisture content of pellets (P-MC), and LAR pellets was found to have the highest bilk density (BD) and durability (DU). With the increase of moisture content of sawdust (S-MC), P-MC and DU of QUM, PID and LAK pellets increased, but BD of QUM and LAK pellets decreased. When size of sawdust used for the production of wood pellets decreased, P-MC and BD of LAK pellets and BD of QUM pellets increased. Decrease of particle size contributed to the increase of DU of QUM, PID and LAK pellets. In addition, BD and DU of QUM pellets produced with 12% S-MC sawdust increased as its particle size reduced. For LAK pellets, DU was not influence by particle size in the S-MCs of 10% and 12%, but increased with the decrease of particle size in the S-MC of 8%. Based on the results and economical aspects, 10% MC and 2 mesh paricle size for QUM sawdust and 12% MC and 2 mesh particle size for PID sawdust might be optimal conditions for pellets production, and fuel characteristics of wood pellets produced by the conditions greatly exceeded the minimum requirements for the $1^{st}$-grade wood pellets of the standard designated by Korea Forest Research Institute.
Wood fuel must be dried before combustion to minimize the energy loss. Sawdust of Japanese red pine was dried in a batch type fluidized-bed to investigate the drying characteristics of sawdust as a raw material for bio-fuel. The minimum fluidization air velocity was increased as particle size was increased. It took about 21 minutes and 8 minutes to dry 0.08 m-deep bed of particles with average particle size of 1.3 mm from 100% to 10% moisture content at air temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ and $50^{\circ}C$, respectively.
Eight types of thin composite panels were manufactured by press-lam and mat-forming process applied to optimum manufacturing condition, studied in former first research by author (1995). They were tested and compared with control boards on dimensional stability, internal bond strength, tensile strength, Screw withdrawal strength, and bending properties. These thin composite panels manufactured by mat-forming process were generally superior to those by press-lam in dimensional stability and mechanical properties. In the dimensional stability and mechanical properties of thin composite panels manufactured by mat-forming process, the thin composite panels (A and E type) composed of particle or sawdust core and veneer face with polyethylene film, were as good as those of common plywood (control board). Internal bond strength showed highest value in the thin composite panel(D type) which composed of particle core and polypropylene screen face with polyethylene film. The thin composite panels(G and H type) composed of sawdust or particle core and polypropylene screen face with polyethylene film by press-lam and mat-forming process, showed most highest value in dimensional stability and water absorption.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of fertilizer composted of dam suspended particle sawdust and sewage sludge to soil properties and seedling growth. The Betula platyphylla var japonica, Zelkova serrata and Chamaecyparis obtusa were used for this study. The soil organic matter, total nitrogen, phosphorous, exchangeable calcium, magnesium, and potassium were increased with fertilizer treatment. Heavy metal concentration in soil was increased with fertilizer treatment, but the level was very low. With fertilizer treatment, growth, photosynthetic capacity, and chlorophyll concentration of seedling were improved.
This paper was concerned with the risk assessment about oxidizing substances as dangerous goods by burning test method. The sample. which was formed with the heaped cone-shape. was composed of solid oxidant and sawdust. The burning time of each sample was measured under the following various conditions circumstance temperature. mixing ratio of oxidizing substance and sawdust. particle size of sawdust and kinds of sawdust. As a results. the effective combustibility was gained when the sawdust content was 20∼30 wt.% in the sample and the lauan with -30+50 mesh was used. But. although the circumstance temperature increased. burning efficiency of the samples wet$.$e not affect by it. Finally. the average burning times were obtained by considering the weighting factors related on the mixing ratio and the circumstance temperature. And then. it were compared with the combustion risk level and the effects of cation and anion of oxidizing substances as dangerous goods.
This experiment was carried out to study the effects affecting to particle board quality by the mixed use of sawdust abandoning as the sawmill residues. The obtained results at this study are summarized as follows: 1) There was no significance in bending strength between 5% sawdust addition and non mixed particleboard. 2) The water absorption was increased as accordance with adding more sawdust. When the boards were mixed with sawdust until 20% the differences were shown among the test boards. 3) There was no differences between the moisture contents and also specific gravities between the comparated boards. There was no difference between the boards mixed with 5% sawdust and non mixed boards.

This study was carried out on the composting of the most part of the plant waste materials inflowed-drifting into the dam during the localized heavy rain and the rainy season, due to the abnormal climate change, and for the sewage sludge banned to dispose legally into the ocean from the year of 2012. It was analysed the distinctive physicochemical qualities of the compost with treatment S-1(dam suspended particle sawdust : oak tree bark : sewage sludge : chicken manure = 30 : 20 : 40 : 10) and treatment S-2(dam suspended particle sawdust : oak tree bark : sewage sludge : chicken manure = 30 : 30 : 30 : 10). Both S-1 and S-2 maintained for 10 days at above $65^{\circ}C$ of the compost pile temperature, and the most of its pathogen were destroyed. In case of pH, until the 90th day into composting, S-1 with the pH value of 7.78 was slightly higher than S-2. The C/N value of S-1 was 15.3 and that of S-2 was 16.9. The quality of its final product was satisfied to the manufacture-standards. The GI value of S-1 was 91 higher than that of S-2, which was 84. In conclusion, it is highly recommendable to manufacture S-1 for its frequent usage of dam suspended particle sawdust and sewage sludge, and for its excellent quality and safety.
Cordycepin (3'-deoxyadenosine) is a nucleoside analog known for its diverse range of biological activities. This study investigated the effect of different types of sawdust on the production of the bioactive compound cordycepin. The results of the study showed that different types of wood sawdust affected the biosynthesis of cordycepin and a significant increase was observed when the conventional SDB medium was replaced with 1% NaOH treated pine sawdust. To optimize cordycepin production from Paecilomyces tenuipes in a medium containing 1% NaOH-pretreated pine sawdust, we employed Response Surface Methodology (RSM) in its Box-Behnken design (BBD) canonical form. The optimal conditions were determined as follows: a particle size of 109.5111-mesh (140 ㎛) for 1% NaOH-pretreated pine sawdust, an input weight of 21.1679 g/L, and an incubation time of 73.8423 hours. According to our model, this combination is expected to yield a maximum cordycepin content of 896.1428 ㎍/mL. Experimental validation of this prediction was performed using the suggested optimal conditions, resulting in an average cordycepin content of 922.6771 ㎍/mL across three replicates, thus confirming the model's accuracy.

Sawdust is considered one of the cheapest and abundantly available adsorbents, and it is not necessary to regenerate. The spent sawdust can be incinerated or reused as a fuel. The sawdust adsorption can be applied to the removal of color and metal cations from the wastewater. The aim of this study was to evaluate the adsorptive capacities of sawdust with respect to color, COD, SS, turbidity, metal cation from textile wastewater. Langmuir, Freundlich, BET and Sips adsorption isotherm were obtained for the sawdust adsorption of Fe(III). The effects of particle size and amount of sawdust on the adsorption of Fe(III) were also studied. COD, SS, color, turbidity and Fe(III) removal efficiencies were examined at the continuous fixed-bed adsorption test. It was showed the removal efficiencies of SS 50.0%, Fe(III) 25.0%, turbidity 79.4%, color 48.6% and COD 50.9%. In addition, the changes of surface structure between before and after adsorption were investigated through SEM analysis. It is confirmed that the waste sawdust can be successfully used as an adsorbent for wastewater treatment.
