Purpose: This study was done to describe the correlation among the older Korean American adults's health-promoting behavior, life satisfaction and self-esteem. Method: The subjects consisted of 183 community-dwelling Korean immigrant elderly living in the state of Washington, USA. The instruments for this study were Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile(47 items), Life Satisfaction Scale(20 items) and Self-Esteem Scale(l0 items). Frequency, percentage, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan test and Pearson's correlation coefficient with SAS program were used to analyze the data. Result: 1) The average item score for the health-promoting behavior was 3.51; the highest score on the subscale was nutrition(M=3.63) with the lowest being exercise(M=3.07). 2) The average item score for the life satisfaction was 3.11. 3) The average item score for the self-esteem was 3.12. 4) Health-promoting behavior was significantly different according to educational level and participation in society circles. 5) Life satisfaction was significantly different according to age, religion and participation in society circles. 6) Self-esteem was significantly different according to age, marital status, religion and participation in society circles. 7) Health-promoting behavior was positively related to life satisfaction and self-esteem. The life satisfaction was positively related to self-esteem. Conclusion: It follows from this study that there is a very correlation among the older Korean American adults's health-promoting behavior, life satisfaction and self-esteem. Therefore health promoting programs that increase life satisfaction and self-esteem should be developed to promote a healthy lifestyle of the older Korean American adults.
Purpose: This study was purposed to provide basic data for developing future health promotion programs by comparing health-promoting behavior, life satisfaction and self-esteem between the Korean elderly and the American-Korean elderly. Methods: The subjects were volunteer participants of 120 elders in the Gyeongsan City in Korea and 120 elders in the state of Washington in the U.S. Tools used in this study were Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile (47 items), Life Satisfaction Scale (20 items) and Self-Esteem Scale (10 items). To analyze data, this study used frequency, percentage, chi-square test, t-test, Kendal tau test, Pearson's correlation coefficient with SPSS program. Results: 1) The average score of health-promoting behaviors was 3.21 in Koreans and 3.50 in American-Koreans, showing a significant difference between the two groups. 2) The sub-scales that got the highest score of health-promoting behaviors were self-actualization and nutrition(M=3.41) in Koreans and nutrition(M=3.61) in American-Koreans, and that with the lowest score was exercise in both groups(2.89 in Koreans and 3.02 in American-Koreans). 3) The average score for life satisfaction was 2.76 in Koreans and 3.06 in American-Koreans, showing a significant difference between the two groups. 4) The average score for self-esteem was 3.39 in Koreans and 3.09 in American-Koreans, showing a insignificant difference between the two groups. 5) Health-promoting behaviors were positively related to life satisfaction and self-esteem. Life satisfaction was positively related to self-esteem in both groups. Conclusions: According to the results of this study, the health-promoting behaviors of Korean and American-Korean elders strongly correlated with life satisfaction and self-esteem. Therefore, health promoting programs that enhance life satisfaction and self-esteem should be developed in order to promote the elderly's healthy lifestyle.
The purpose of this study is to clarify the influence of positive interactions between the low-income female householders and children on the mothers'psychological well-being and quality of life. The major findings are as following: First, there were high level of life satisfaction and low level of depression among the low-income female householders who perceived high level of children's emotional support. The difference from the existence of the low-income female householder\`s husband was not found in the life satisfaction and depression. After controling for the low-income female householder's health, the differences were maintained. Second, the low-income female householders who communicated with their children open-heartedly felt higher level of life satisfaction and lower level of depression than those who had less communication with their children. The difference from the existence of the low-income female householder's husband was not found in the life satisfaction and depression. After controlling for the low-income female householder\`s educational level and health, the differences were maintained. finally, the low-income female householders felt higher level of life satisfaction and lower level of depression when they listened to their children closely, and were satisfied with mother-child communication.
Objectives The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among circadian typology, bipolarity and life satisfaction of university students. Methods A total 1232 participants completed questionnaires, which included Composite Scale of Morningness (CSM), Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), and Mood Disorder Questionnaire (MDQ). Statistical analyses were done using correlation analysis, and analysis of covariance. Results The CSM score was positively associated with SWLS score (r = 0.232 ; p < 0.001). The morningness group has higher life satisfaction than the eveningness group (p < 0.001). The eveningness group has higher bipolarity than the morningness group (p < 0.001). The CSM score was negatively associated with MDQ score (r = -0.128 ; p < 0.001). Conclusions Bipolarity and life satisfaction were associated with circadian typology. Morningness was the important determinant of life satisfaction and bipolarity.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of authentic parental competence and awareness of early childhood educational community on the life satisfaction of mothers with preschoolers depending on mothers' employment status. Methods: A total of 238 mothers (98 employed, 130 unemployed) whose children were attending early childhood institutes participated in a survey measuring three variables. Results and Conclusion: The findings of the study were as follows: First, there were positive correlations between authentic parental competence, awareness of early childhood educational community, and life satisfaction, regardless of employment status. Second, comparing employed mothers with unemployed mothers, a common variable affecting life satisfaction was social competence, a sub-variable of authentic parental competence. Further, self-system competence, a sub-factor of authentic parental competence, influenced life satisfaction for employed mothers, and sharing core values, a sub-variable of awareness of the early childhood educational community, influenced life satisfaction for unemployed mothers.
The purpose of this study is to suggest the way to improve the life satisfaction of the aged in the institutional household by examing some of factors such as individual, social support and facility that influence their life satisfaction. In the view of statistical results, the level of their life satisfaction is influenced by individual, social support and facility related to factors. First, the level of the aged’s life satisfaction is high when the person has spouse who lives together, has many children, presumes oneself as in healthy and has high-satisfaction of religion. Second, the level of the aged’s life satisfaction is high when the person has good relationship with friends in institutional household and one’s children. And the person whose relative call her or him frequently and she or he is proud of one’s being in institutional household has high-satisfaction of one’s life. Third, the level of the aged’s life satisfaction is high when the person satisfies the quality of food-services and housing services. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between family violence exposure and school violence, to explore the mediating effects of family life satisfaction, school life satisfaction, and internalizing on those relationship and to suggest practical implications for social work services for those adolescents. 4,773 adolescents were selected for the questionnaire study in Gjwangju. Collected data were analysed by Structural Equation Modeling in AMOS 20.0 and SPSS 20.0. The findings of this study were as follows: First, there were significant correlations among family life satisfaction, school life satisfaction, internalizing and school violence offense with family violence exposure. Second, the structural model analysis revealed that family violence had no direct link with school violence. Third, Family violence had indirect effects on school violence, mediated by family life satisfaction, school life satisfaction and internalizing. Based on these findings, the research discussion reinforced the importance of family focused services to prevent the school violence and suggested effective intervention plan.
The primary purpose of this study was to employ an ecological model to analyze relative magnitudes of significant predictors affecting school life satisfaction in Korea Science Academy. The instruments used for this study were school life satisfaction Scale, Self-Efficacy Scale, Relationship Skill Scale, Internal Control Scale, Emotional Intelligence Scale, and FACE IV Scale. Data were collected by purposive sampling of 180 students of the Korea Science Academy in Busan, Korea. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentile, mean, standard deviation, Cronbach' ${\alpha}$, Pearson's productive correlation, hierarchical regression and stepwise regression, using SPSS 15.0+WIN program package. The results were as follows: 1. The level of school life satisfaction in Korea Science Academy was found to be high(Mean = 4.24, SD = 0.57). 2. Model IV was the most powerful. It explained 49.7% of the school life satisfaction. 3. Relationship with friends(${\beta}$ = .443), with teachers(${\beta}$ = .273), and self-efficacy(${\beta}$ = .201) were significant factors in explaining the school life satisfaction. The three variables explained 49.9% of school life satisfaction.
본 연구는 대기오염에 대한 인식과 삶의 만족도의 관계에서 녹지환경 만족도의 조절효과를 검증하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 2018년 사회조사 자료를 활용하였으며, 조절회귀분석을 이용하여 총 37,461명을 대상으로 분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 녹지환경에 대한 만족도가 높을수록 삶의 만족도가 증가하였으며, 대기오염에 대한 인식이 부정적일수록 삶의 만족도가 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 녹지환경에 대한 만족도는 대기오염 인식과 삶의 만족도 사이의 관계를 조절하는 것으로 나타났다. 다시 말해, 녹지환경에 대한 만족도가 높을수록 대기오염에 대한 부정적 인식이 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향을 완충하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 삶의 만족도 저하 예방을 위해 녹지 환경이 중요한 자원으로 고려되어야 하며, 지역사회에서 녹지 환경의 확장과 개선을 위한 다양한 방안들이 개발될 필요가 있음을 보여준다.
Purpose: This study focused on the health conditions and satisfaction in day-to-day life of elders using welfare facilities where there is no charge, and thus provides basic data for development of quality services required for health enhancement and a variety of demands from these elders. Method: The participants in the study were 140 elders selected at random from facilities for elders in Taegu. The tools for the study were the Korean Health Status Measure for the Elderly (Shin, H. C., 2002), and Yoon's "Criteria of Older Adults Life Satisfaction"(1982). Results: Differences in life satisfaction were found according to general characteristics of the elders, and that a lack of caretaker professionalism and relationships with other elders, but not the program were scored lower. In the correlation between health status and life satisfaction, it was found that emotional, social function and physical pain showed correlations with life satisfaction. Conclusion: It is necessary for the enhancement of health status of these elders and improvement in life satisfaction that a variety of nursing interventions be implemented.
