  • Magnetic bearing system is frequently used for high-speed rotating machines because of its frictionless property. But the magnetic bearing system needs feedback controller for stabilization. This paper presents a robust controller design by using linear matrix inequality for magnetic bearing system which shows the control performance and robust stability under the physical parameter perturbations. To the end, the validity of the designed controller is investigated through computer simulation.

  • We introduce a high breakdown point estimator referred to as data partitioning robust regression estimator (DPR). Since the DPR is obtained by partitioning observations into a finite number of subsets, it has no computational problem unlike the previous robust regression estimators. Empirical and extensive simulation studies show that the DPR is superior to the previous robust estimators. This is much so in large samples.

  • A Hausdorff distance (HD) is one of commonly used measures for object matching. It calculates the distance between two point sets of edges in two-dimensional binary images without establishing correspondences. This paper proposes three object matching algorithm using robust HD measures based on M-estimation, least trimmed square (LTS), and .alpha.-trimmed mean methods, which are more efficient than the conventional HD measures. By computer simulation with synthetic and real images, the matching performance of the conventional HD smeasures and proposed' robust ones is compared.

  • Robust design is to identify appropriate settings of control factors that make the system's performance robust to changes in the noise factors that represent the source of variation. In this paper we propose how to simultaneously optimize multiple quality characteristics using the principal component analysis of multivariate statistical analysis. An example is illustrated to compare it with already proposed method.

  • An optimal control approach to robust control design is proposed in this study for rigid robotic systems under the unknown load and the other uncertainties. The uncertainties are quadratically bounded for some positive definite matrix. Iterative method to find the matrix is shown. Simulations arc made for a weight-lifting operation of a two-link manipulator and the robust control performance of robotic systems by the proposed algorithm is remarkable.

  • Highly nonlinear dynamical systems are easily identified using neural networks. When disturbances are included in the learning data set Int system modeling, modeling process will be poorly performed. Since the radial basis functions in the radial basis function network(RBFN) are centered at the points specified by the weights, RBF networks are robust for approximating the process including the narrow-band disturbances deviating significantly from the regular signals. To exclude(filter) these disturbances, a robust algorithm for system identification, based on the RBFN, is proposed. The performance of system identification excluding disturbances is investigated and compared with the one including disturbances.

  • As an alternative to the classic linear detector which only assumes noise variance, a new robust detector with noise variance estimation censoring input signals over AWGN is proposed. The results demonstrate that analytic detection probability matches the simulation results for the linear detector and that the new robust detector shows better performance than the linear detector when the number of samples increases.

  • This paper proposes an alternative robust adaptive high-gain fuzzy observer design scheme and its application to synchronization of chaotic systems. The structure of the proposed observer is represented by Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model and has the integrator of the estimation error. This improves the performance of high-gain observer and makes the proposed observer robust against noisy measurements, uncertainties and parameter perturbations as well. Using Lyapunov stability theory, an adaptive law is derived and the stability of the proposed observer is analyzed. Some simulation result is given to present the validity of theoretical derivations and the performance of the proposed observer.

  • This paper addresses a new passive target tracking problem using the range differences measured by cooperative UAVs. In order to solve the range difference based passive target tracking problem within the framework of linear robust state estimation, the uncertain linear measurement model which contains the stochastic parameter uncertainty is derived by using the noisy range difference measurements. To cope with the performance degradation due to the stochastic parameter uncertainty, the recently developed non-conservative robust Kalman filtering technique [1] is applied. For the cruciform formation flying UAVs, the relationship between the target tracking performance and the measurement errors is quantitatively analyzed. The proposed filter has practical advantages over the classical nonlinear filters because, for its recursive linear structure, it can provide satisfactory convergence properties and is suitable for real-time multiple UAVs applications. Through the simulations, the usefulness of the proposed method is demonstrated.
