The Effects of SW Education Using EPL and Coding robot on the Computational thinking and Problem solving (EPL 및 코딩 로봇 활용 SW교육이 컴퓨팅 사고력과 문제해결력에 미치는 효과)

  • This study attempted to examine the effects of SW education using EPL and coding robots on computing thinking and problem-solving skills among various teaching and learning methods of software education. To this end, a survey was conducted on 350 students from middle schools A and B in Gwangju and Jeollanam-do, and the difference in mean was analyzed through t-verification and one-way analysis of variance in order to investigate the relationship between variables. Based on the research results obtained through this, we will identify the effects, strengths, and weaknesses of SW education using EPL and coding robots, provide basic data and information for efficient teaching and learning methods of SW education, and further suggest better directions in terms of academic and practical aspects.

Analysis of Instructional Design and Effect for Pre-service Mathematics Teachers' TPACK-P Improvement (예비수학교사의 TPACK-P 신장을 위한 강의 설계 및 효과 분석)

  • This study aimed to design a robot programming lecture for pre-service mathematics teachers to improve their TPACK-P (TPACK-Programming) and analyze its effectiveness. The lecture design involved stages of analysis, exploration, primary micro-teaching, and secondary micro-teaching, with each stage including design, application, and evaluation. The TPACK-P survey was conducted before and after the lecture, and the results indicated a statistically significant difference in TCK at the 1% significance level and TPK, TRACK, and TRACK(P) at the 5% significance level. Further analysis using dependent sample t-tests showed that the post-test mean was significantly higher than the pre-test mean in categories such as TCK, TPK, TPACK, and TPACK(P). These findings suggest that the designed lecture positively affected the growth of pre-service mathematics teachers' TPACK-P.

Development and Application of Robot Task using Tangible Programming Tool for Elementary Students (텐지블 프로그래밍 도구를 활용한 논리적 사고력기반의 초등 로봇 과제 개발 및 적용)

  • Recently, programming education is being actively performed in education field with development of educational programming language and teaching and learning methods for elementary students. However, programming education have limit to apply to the overall computer science curriculum, because it is performed by more than 5th grade and focused on the utilization of programming tools than problem-solving process. It is necessary to expand the range of students and educational content considered with problem-solving process for encouraging programming education in computer science. In this study, we suggest the easy-to-use programming tool for lower grade(1st grade) and robot programming task based on improvement of student's thinking ability. We use Tangible User Interface(TUI) for elementary student's(1st grade) convenience of programming and developed the robot programming task for improvement of logical thinking. As a result of this experiment, tangible programming tool can be used easily in elementary students(1st grade) and developed robot programming task is effective in improvement of logical thinking.

  • In this study, we selected an educational robot as a suitable tool to support algorithm learning for middle school learners through comparative analysis of various tools. Educational robot can provide tangible experiences for abstract concepts of algorithms. Therefore, we developed an algorithm learning program with educational robots to enhance intrinsic motivation and creative problem solving ability for middle school learners. Also, we implemented the developed program in middle schools and analysed the educational effects of the program. We found that the algorithm learning program with robots was helpful in enhancing learners' intrinsic motivation about algorithm learning and creative problem solving potential. These findings may offer useful direction for designing teaching and learning program for algorithm education. These results can be used as a basis for study on designing and developing algorithm learning program.

An Analysis of Structural Model on the Learning Intention of the Participants in the Robot Programming (로봇프로그래밍 학습참여자의 학습의도 구조모형 분석)

  • The analysis on learners made through the study focuses on the intention of the participants in the learning activities of the robot programming. Therefore, for the analysis of the learners' intention, which is tried in the study, TAM, the analysis tool used for understanding buying acts or buying intention of buyers in the business sector, is basically utilized, and the Flow theory is additionally applied, trying to know, through the quantum analysis methods, the factors to give influence on the intention for learners to take part in the robot programming lesson. For this, a quantum analysis was made by PLS analysis, a kind of structural equations. As the result of the analysis, it is confirmed that such factors as 'recognized utility' and 'recognized readiness' and 'Flow' give significant influence on the intention of learners' participation in the lesson. As the result of the synthetic analysis and in regard with the value of the programming lesson, it is found that the following factors give actual influence to the intention of learners: the group where learners belong or teaching-learning organizations together with creating social rapport, learning tasks given for learners, etc.

  • With the rapid development of mobile services and the prevalence of education robots, robots are being developed to become a part of our lives and they can be utilized to assist teachers in giving education or learning to students. This standard has been proposed to define the degree of autonomy for education robot. The autonomy is an ability to perform a given work based on current state and sensor value without human intervention. The degree of autonomy is a scale indicating the extent of autonomy and it is determined in between 1 and 10 by considering the level of work and human intervention. It has been adapted as per standard and education robots can be utilized in teaching the students autonomously. Education robots can be beneficial in education and it is expected to contribute in assisting the teacher's education.

A Learning Method of Stack and Queue through Solving Maze Exploration Problems with Robots (로봇의 미로 탐색 문제해결을 통한 스택과 큐 학습 방안)

  • ICT education guidelines revised in 2005 reinforce computer science elements such as algorithm, data structure, and programming covering all schools. And Ministry of Education emphasizes STEAM education. Most important is that "How instruct them". This means necessity of contents. So this paper suggests learning method of Stack and Queue using LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT. The main purpose is that how stack and queue are used, when robot explore realistic maze. Teaching and learning strategies are algorithm, flowchart, and NXT-G programming. Simple maze has path in left or right, but complex maze has three-way intersection. These are developed by authors. Master robot explores maze and push stack, and then return to entrance using stack. Master robot explores maze and transmits path to slave's queue. And then slave robot drives without exploration. Students can naturally learn principles and applications of them. Through these studies, it can improves ability of logical and creative thinking. Furthermore it can apply to ICT and STEAM education.

  • This paper proposes a teaching plan of programming language class for university of education students amusingly with LEGO Mindstorms NXT robot. The goal of class is not fragmentary knowledge acquirement but problem-solving of maze. This robot communicates with GUI named NXT-G installed in computer via USB. GUI is not text-based but icon-based programming tool. This paper designs a semester with 3 steps such as beginner, intermediate, high-rank. Beginner step is consists of learning of basic functions such as GUI usage and several sensors of robot. Intermediate step is consists of solving of maze problem with low complexity. High-rank step is consists of solving maze problem with medium and high complexity. All maze problem-solving have 3 process with algorithm, flowchart, and programming with stack.

  • With the introduction of the 2015 revised curriculum, software education became mandatory in elementary school. The practical subject in the content for the software education consists of information ethics, algorithms, programming, and computer science. Especially, elementary school encourages the unplugged activities. Unplugged activities are preferred among the teachers in the education field as a teaching-learning method. However, those teachers pointed out that the lack of suitable unplugged activity materials was the biggest challenge. In addition, it was pointed out that the existing materials were not suitable for achievement standards, and there are many simple playing-oriented educations that are not linked to computing activities. In this study, we developed an unplugged activity-oriented robot that can be used for the elementary students to learn the basic control structure suggested in the achievement criteria SW education and to develop creative problem solving ability through various activities using sensors. The effectiveness was verified through the software class using the developed robot in this study.

  • 최근 들어 유치원과 초등학교에 로봇을 이용한 교육적 활용 연구가 시도되고 있다. 유비퀴터스 로봇 활용이 교사와 아동의 흥미 유발에 있어 매우 효과가 높은 것으로 나타나, 향후 유비쿼터스 로봇이 u-Learning 의 또 다른 매체로서의 가능성이 강조되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 초등학교 수업에서 교사 보조 역할을 통한 유비퀴터스 로봇의 활용 가능성을 보기 위해, 초등 학생 6 학년의 기대 역할을 갖는 프로토 타입의 로봇과 컨텐츠를 개발하여 활용하는 실험을 실시하였다. 프로토 타입 로봇은 국어, 영어, 음악 교과를 대상으로 주기적으로 컨텐츠를 다운로드 할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 아동의 얼굴과 이름을 저장하여 수업 운영 컨텐츠와 연동할 수 있다. 현장 실험을 통하여 아동이 유비쿼터스 로봇을 경험한 수업 시간의 횟수에 따라 로봇 외형과 수업 보조 서비스에 대한 선호도 차이를 알아봄으로써, 초등학교에서 유비퀴터스 로봇을 이용한 r-Learning에 있어서 일시적 신기효과가 아닌 지속적인 영향을 줄 수 있는 요인을 찾아보았다. 실험 결과, 지속적인 HRI 유지에 영향을 끼칠 수 있는 외형적 요인으로 로봇 얼굴과 로봇과 아동간 관계성을 지향하는 컨텐츠 개발이 필요함을 보였다.
