The eastern coastal area having variability of climate is located within Taebaek mountain range and the east coast of Korea. It is therefore ease to cause the wind damages in paddy field during rice growing season. The wind damages to rice plant in this area were mainly caused by the Fohn wind (dry and hot wind) blowing over the Taebaek mountain range and the cold humid wind from the coast. The dry wind cause such as the white head, broken leaves, cut-leaves, dried leaves, shattering of grain, glume discolouration and lodging, On the other hand the cold humid wind derived from Ootsuku air mass in summer cause such symptom as the poor rice growth, degeneration of rachis brenches and poor ripening. To minimize the wind damages and utilize as a preparatory data for wind injury of rice in future, several experiments such as the selection of wind resistant variety to wind damage, determination of optimum transplanting date, improvement of fertilizer application methods, improvement of soils and effect of wind break net were carried out for 8 years from 1982 to 1989 in the eastern coastal area. The results obtained are summarized as follows. 1. According to available statisical data from Korean meteorological services (1954-1989) it is apperent that cold humid winds frequently cause damage to rice fields from August 10th to September 10th, it is therefore advisable to plan rice cultivation in such a way that the heading date should not be later than August 10th. 2. During the rice production season, two winds cause severe damage to the rice fields in eastern coastal area of Korea. One is the Fohn winds blowing over the Taebaek mountain range and the other is the cold humid wind form the coast. The frequency of occurrence of each wind was 25%. 3. To avoid damage caused by typhoon winds three different varieties of rice were planted at various areas. 4. In the eastern coastal area of Korea, the optimum ripening temperature for rice was about 22.2$^{\circ}C$ and the optimum heading date wad August 10th. The optimum transplanting time for the earily maturity variety was June 10th., medium maturity variety was May 20th and that of late maturity was May 10th by means of growing days degree (GDD) from transplanting date to heading date. 5.38% of this coastal area is sandy loamy soil while 28% is high humus soil. These soil types are very poor for rice cultivation. In this coastal area, the water table is high, the drainage is poor and the water temperature is low. The low water temperature makes it difficult for urea to dissolve, as a result rice growth was delayed, and the rice plant became sterile. But over application of urea resulted in blast disease in rice plants. It is therefore advise that Ammonium sulphate is used in this area instead of urea. 6. The low temperature of the soil inhibits activities of microorganism for phosphorus utilization so the rice plant could not easily absorb the phosphorus in the soil. Therefore phosphorus should be applied in splits from transplanting to panicle initiation rather than based application. 7. Wind damage was severe in the sandy loamy soil as compared to clay soils. With the application of silicate. compost and soil from mointain area. the sand loamy soil was improved for rice grain colour and ripening. 8. The use of wind break nets created a mocro-climate such as increased air. soil and water temperature as well as the reduction of wind velocity by 30%. This hastened rice growth, reduced white head and glume discolouration. improved rice quality and increased yield. 9. Two meter high wind break net was used around the rice experimental fields and the top of it. The material was polyethylene sheets. The optimum spacing was 0.5Cm x 0.5Cm. and that of setting up the wind break net was before panicle initiation. With this set up, the field was avoided off th cold humid wind and the Fohn. The yield in the treatment was 20% higher than the control. 10. After typhoon, paddy field was irrigated deeply and water was sprayed to reduce white head, glume discolouration, so rice yield was increased because of increasing ripening ratio and 1, 000 grain weight.

Crops and varieties are mostly affected by temperature, the amount of precipitation, and duration of sunshine. This study aims to identify the weather factors that directly influence to apple yield among the series of daily measured weather variables during growing seasons. In order to identify them, 1) a priori natural scientific knowledge with respect to the growth stage of apples and 2) pure statistical approaches to minimize bias due to the subject selection of variables are considered. Each result estimated by the Panel regression using fixed/random effect models is evaluated through suitability (i.e., Akaike information criterion and Bayesian information criterion) and predictability (i.e., mean absolute error, root mean square error, mean absolute percentage). The Panel data of apple yield and weather factors are collected from fifteen major producing areas of apples from 2006 to 2013 in Korea for the case study. The result shows that variable selection using factor analysis, which is one of the statistical approaches applied in the analysis, increases predictability and suitability most. It may imply that all the weather factors are important to predict apple yield if statistical problems, such as multicollinearity and lower degree of freedom due to too many explanatory variables used in the regression, can be controlled effectively. This may be because whole growth stages, such as germination, florescence, fruit setting, fatting, ripening, coloring, and harvesting, are affected by weather.

Bacillus sp. SP-KSW3 is an auxothroph bacteria that is being used for starter in fermentation. Physico-chemical characteristics, enzyme activities, ACE inhibitor and antimutagenicity in fermented soybean (Kanjang) inoculated with Bacillus sp. SP-KSW3 starter was investigated for the ripening duration of fermentation. Tyrosinase and ACE showed 7% higher activity degree on the Kanjang maturated fermented 2 years with Bacillus sp. SP-KSW3 (Type I) than test field than Kanjang maturated 2 years (control). For antimutagenicity using S. enterica serovar Typhimurium TA100 against MNNG and NPD showed 35.17% and 28.37% (Type I). Similarly, S. enterica serovar Typhimurium TA98 was used against NPD and NQO showed 25.48% and 21.64% (Type I), respectively. Hydrogen donating ability 2 year for maturing (Type I) appeared most highly in the test eulogy 83.1% which it makes. Daidzin of isoflavone in fermented soybean showed similarly. Genistein was not detected The initial test field for daidzin and genistein contained 3.95 mg/kg and 1.25 mg/kg (Type I), respectively.

The study was done to determine the proper transplanting dates and seedling ages of rice when mechanical transplanting was attempted. Heading dates of the Milyang #23, developed from Tong-il rice was delayed by delayed transplanting and the percent of filling grain was also low. The proper heading dates for the variety should be the first part of August and the transplanting should be done by the end of May. The presumed last days for the transplantation was considered early part of June. 30 to 40 days old seedlings were very effective to have healthy rooting systems. However, the Milyang #15 had shown more tolerance to the late transplantation than Milyang #23 and the degree of delaying heading dates due to the delayed transplantation was rather smaller than that of the Milyang #23. Even when the Milyang #15 was transplanted on June 30, the heading dates were around the middle of August and the ripening percentage was comparatively high and yield was also high. Therefore, the proper heading dates of the Milyang #15 might be around the middle of August and transplanting dates should be the first part of June. The possible last dates of transplantation of the Milyang #15 was assumed to be the last days of June and the proper seedling ages would be 20 to 30 day after sowing.

The quality of fresh jujube (Zizyphus jujuba) fruit rapidly declines in the postharvest stage and thus the effective storage conditions for agricultural warehouses were investigated in this study. Fresh jujubes (~10 kg) were stored using five different storage methods: plastic box without further packaging as a control (C-PL), plastic box with hanji packaging (H-PL), plastic box with functional film packaging (F-PL), cardboard box with hanji packaging (H-CB), and cardboard box with functional film packaging (F-CB). The storage boxes were stored in a refrigerator ($0^{\circ}C$ and 80~90% RH), equipped with an ethylene gas scavenging device for 9 weeks and then the quality characteristics were analyzed. The control storage conditions of jujubes showed a substantial decline in quality with decreases in moisture content, hardness, and sugar content as well as increases in decay ratio and redness. Among the tested storage conditions, F-CB was most effective in terms of maintaining the quality of jujube fruit while maintaining firmness, weightlessness, ripening degree from redness and visible appearance. In conclusion, effective storage and packaging conditions during storage enabled maintenance of fruit quality of jujubes for 9 weeks.
The aim of this study was to solve the problem of yield loss causing the lag of fertilizer efficiency after tiller stage, being originated by applying mixed expeller cake fertilizer on three day before rice transplanting in organic rice farmers. The mineralization degree of $NH_4-N$ of the mixed expeller cake fertilizer was increased until 7 weeks at flooding condition, and so did $NO_3-N$ until 5 weeks at non-flooding condition. The mineralization rate of nitrogen in paddy soil on 20 days before rice transplanting was the highest by 0.85% on 20 days before the transplanting treatment. The properties of yields during the harvest period have no difference with application time of the mixed expeller cake fertilizer, except soil organic matter. The plan length, culm length and panicle length were the longest on 20 days before rice transplanting. Also, the number of tiller, ripening rat and 1,000 grain weight were the highest on 20 days before rice transplanting, and thereby the yield of white rice were increasing by 9% on 20 days before rice transplanting compared with that of 3 days before rice transplanting. The whiteness values of the rice and amylose content made no difference, but the value of protein and palatability were the same between 20 days and 30 days treatment. In the conclusion, the relationship between rice yield, its quality and application time of the mixed expeller cake fertilizer has showed that the suitable time of applying it reveals 21.3 days before rice transplanting.
This experiment was carried out to find out the optimum application method of slow-release fertilizer under different soil textures, clay loam(Deogpyeong series), sandy loam (Gangseo series) in the southern region(Milyang, Kyeongnam) of Korea. The fertilizers used were Chosun slow-release fertilizer(silicate latex coated fertilizer: N-P$_2$O$_{5}$-K$_2$O=18-12-13) and Meister 15 (thermoplastic resin coated fertilizer : N-P$_2$O$_{5}$-K$_2$O=14-14-14). The two whole basal application methods such as side band placement at transplanting time of rice plant(cv.Donghaebyeo) and incorporation with soil as basal were tested. The released amount of ammonium nitrogen from the soils for 4 days submerged was 95ppm in sandy loam and 60ppm in clay loam. The greenish degree of rice leaf was higher at the whole plow layer placement method than the others. The nitrogen efficiencies of the fertilizers were Meister 15 > convention > Chosun in order and between the application methods were similiar. The growth status was better at the whole plow layer placement application method of Meister 15 regardless of soils and seedling ages. The ripening ratio was increased at slow-release fertilizer application, and between application methods, whole plow layer placement was lower because of lodging damage. The yield in clay loam soil showed a significant difference between the ferilizers, but there were slight differences between the application methods and fertilizers in sandy loam soil. As a result, the slow-release fertilizer, Meister 15, applied at the whole layer showed a good rice growth and seemed a plausible fertilizing method.
This experiment conducted to know physiological characteristics and stress effect on different growth stage of soybean by night illumination. Soybean variety, Shinpaldalkong 2, Keumjungkong and Muhankong were treated by night illumination with 20~30 Lux (0.05~0.08W m$^{-2}$ , 0.24~0.36 $\mu$㏖ S$^{-1}$ m$^{-2}$ ) for 15 days at six different growth stage, seedling, pre-floral initiation, post-floral initiation, pod filling and seed ripening stage. Night illumination delayed flowering to 2~8 days compared to control. Delay of flowering by night illumination severely effected at the pre-floral initiation stage. Stem length was increased all the night illumination treatments except the pod filling stage. Number of nodes in Shinpaldalkong 2 and Keumjungkong 1 were increased until before post-floral initiation stage but in Muhankong were increased until after post-floral initiation stage by night illumination treatments. Number of pods were decreased all the night illumination treatments except seedling stage compared with control. Yield decreased all the treatments and severe the loss rate degree showed the order of prefloral initiation, post-floral initiation, seedling and flowering stage.
This experiment was conducted to study the influence of different cultivation periods on some morphological and agronomic characteristics of rice plant at Iri, the Honam plain, in 1979. Early maturing varieties showed little delay in heading with late transplanting, but intermediate and late maturing varieties showed more than 7 day delay in heading. The number of days required to reach heading was over 55 and 67 days after transplanting in early and intermediate-late maturing varieties, respectively. There was significantly postitive correlation between the length of vegetative stage and the grain yield. The mean temperature during ripening period was significantly correlated with the grain yield and the percentage of filled grains. The length, width, and thickness of leaf increased with earlier transplanting and the elongation degree between upper and lower leaves showed the same tendency. The productivity of dry matter and the translocation rate of photosynthate to spikelet decreased with late transplanting mainly due to low temperature. LAI was also influenced by transplanting date showing close correlation with yield. Early transplanting was desirable for assimilation and dry matter accumulation.
Two rice varieties, Samkangbyeo and Sangpungbyeo, were transplanted on 1/2000a pots at 6 different dates beginning on May 11 with 10 day interval in 1987 and at 4 different dates beginning on May 21 with 10 day interval in a paddy field at the Chungbuk Provincial Rural Development Administration. Dry matter distributions to stem and leaf sheath, leaves and ear at different growth stages were analyzed to provide basic informations neccessary for the development of dynamic growth model. Dry matter production was reduced as transplanting was delayed and the degree of reduction was greater at the transplanting later than June 1. Dry matter distribution to stem and leaf sheath was increased up to 60-70 days after transplanting with the maximum ratio between 60-70%, which were decreased to 37-43% in pots and 27-33% in field at the end of ripening stage. On the other hand, dry matter distribution to leaf blade was decreased from 40-50% at transplanting to 11-17% at harvesting. Ear dry matter distribution increased rapidly after heading and the distribution ratio was 42-49% in pots and 52-62% in field. Although regression equations to predict dry matter distribution to different parts of rice plant were satisfactory for individual experiment, the application to different experiment was not appropriate.
