Fur apparel is a representative luxury item that displays wealth and social status; however, it is also recognized as an unethical product criticized for its animal maltreatment in the production process. Understanding consumer responses to an ambivalent object, such as fur apparel, is an important research topic both academically and practically. This study investigates the hierarchical effects of perceived benefits and risks of fur apparel on consumers' emotions and purchase intention by applying the ABC model of attitudes to identify the mediating effects of consumer emotions. An online survey was conducted on 390 female consumers that verified hypotheses through structural equation modeling and bootstrapping analysis using phantom variables. The initial results of the survey showed that the relationship between perceived conspicuous benefits and purchase intention towards fur apparel was partially mediated by positive emotion. Second, the relationship between perceived epistemic benefits and purchase intention was completely mediated by positive emotion. Third, the relationship between perceived ethical risk and purchase intention was completely mediated by positive and negative emotions. Fourth, perceived social risk did not affect the purchase intention of fur apparel significantly. The results support that cognitive beliefs about the subject have a significant positive effect on behavioral intentions through emotions as suggested in the ABC model of the attitude. This study provides an in-depth understanding of consumer responses to ambivalent objects by revealing the individual mediating effects of consumers' positive and negative emotions.
Autonomic and EEG responses were analyzed in 32 college students exposed to visual stimulation with Korean Affective Picture System (KAPS) and 36 students exposed to the International Affective Picture System (IAPS). Cardiac, electrodermal, and electrocortical measures were recorded during 30 sec of viewing affective pictures. The slides intended to elicit basic emotions (fear, anger, surprise, disgust, and sadness) were presented to subjects via Kodak slide-projector. The aim of the study was to differentiate autonomic and EEG responses associated with the same negative valence emotions elicited by KAPS and IAPS stimulation and to identify the influence of cultural relevance on physiological reactivity. The analysis of obtained results revealed significant differences in physiological responsiveness to emotionally negative valence slides from KAPS and IAPS. The typical response profile for all emotions elicited by the KAPS included HR acceleration (except surprise), and increase of electrodermal activity, slow and fast alpha blocking and fast beta power increase in EEG, which was not associated with significant asymmetry (except fast alpha in sadness). Stimulation with the IAPS evoked HR deceleration, specific electrodermal responses with relatively high tonic electrodermal activation, alpha-blocking and fast beta increase, and was accompanied also by theta power increase and marked frontal asymmetry (e.g., fast beta, theta asymmetries in sadness, fast alpha in fear). Physiological responses to fear and anger-eliciting slides from the IAPS were significantly less profound and were accompanied by autonomic and EEG changes more typical for attention rather than negative affect. Higher cardiovascular and electrodermal reactivity to fear emotion observed in the KAPS, e.g., as compared to data with the IAPS as stimuli, can be explained by cultural relevance and higher effectiveness of the KAPS in producing certain emotions such as fear in Koreans.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the variable factors influencing children's interpersonal relationship skills and analyze the effects of marital perspective-taking ability, managing responses of young children and emotional intelligence on the interpersonal relationship skills of children. The study subjects were young children aged from four to seven attending private kindergartens or public day care centers in Seoul or Kyeongki-do and their mothers. The results are as follows : 1) First, marital perspective-taking abilities were indicated higher on boys than girls, children in a full-day program than those in a half-day program, university graduates or higher degree holders than collage graduates, single-income families than double-income families. In case of managing responses of young children, boys showed high avoidance of offensive disposition and girls showed high emotions dissipation. Also, young children in a full-day program showed non-responses on managing responses but high responses on emotions dissipation, and children of mothers with bachelor's degree or higher education showed support and children from double-income family showed no responses in high. Moreover, emotional intelligence of young children in a full-day program was higher than that of children in a half-day program, interpersonal relationship skills were showed higher on girls than boys, half-day children than full-day ones, children from single-income family than those from double-income family. 2) Meaningful relationships were indicated between these variables; managing responses of young children, emotional intelligence and interpersonal relationship skills by partly showing correlations. 3) Children in a half-day program with low in emotions dissipation, non-responses, offensive dispositional managing responses but high on Avoid, emotional intelligence showed high interpersonal relationship skills.
This study aimed to identify specific psychological and brain activation responses relating to the processing of negative emotions in patients with alcohol dependency. The authors hypothesized that patients with alcohol dependency would demonstrate the abnormal functioning of brain regions involved in negative emotions. Eleven male patients diagnosed with alcohol dependence in an inpatient alcohol treatment facility and 13 social drinkers with similar demographics were scanned using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) as they viewed film clips that evoked negative emotions. During exposure to negative emotional stimuli, the control group evinced significantly greater activity in the right anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) in comparison to patients with alcohol dependency. Correlation analyses demonstrated a negative association in the relationship between beta values from the right ACC and amygdala in participants classified in the control group. No statistically significant relationship was observed for blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) changes between the two regions in the patient group during the elicitation of negative emotions. On the other hand, patients exhibited a greater activation of the amygdala as negative emotions were induced. These results suggest that alcoholism presents pathophysiology of brain activation that is distinct from the responses of healthy individuals functioning as controls.
Objective: The aim of this study is to compare results of emotion recognition by several algorithms which classify three different emotional states(happiness, neutral, and surprise) using physiological features. Background: Recent emotion recognition studies have tried to detect human emotion by using physiological signals. It is important for emotion recognition to apply on human-computer interaction system for emotion detection. Method: 217 students participated in this experiment. While three kinds of emotional stimuli were presented to participants, ANS responses(EDA, SKT, ECG, RESP, and PPG) as physiological signals were measured in twice first one for 60 seconds as the baseline and 60 to 90 seconds during emotional states. The obtained signals from the session of the baseline and of the emotional states were equally analyzed for 30 seconds. Participants rated their own feelings to emotional stimuli on emotional assessment scale after presentation of emotional stimuli. The emotion classification was analyzed by Linear Discriminant Analysis(LDA, SPSS 15.0), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Multilayer perceptron(MLP) using difference value which subtracts baseline from emotional state. Results: The emotional stimuli had 96% validity and 5.8 point efficiency on average. There were significant differences of ANS responses among three emotions by statistical analysis. The result of LDA showed that an accuracy of classification in three different emotions was 83.4%. And an accuracy of three emotions classification by SVM was 75.5% and 55.6% by MLP. Conclusion: This study confirmed that the three emotions can be better classified by LDA using various physiological features than SVM and MLP. Further study may need to get this result to get more stability and reliability, as comparing with the accuracy of emotions classification by using other algorithms. Application: This could help get better chances to recognize various human emotions by using physiological signals as well as be applied on human-computer interaction system for recognizing human emotions.

This study investigates the multi-dimensional structure of fashion store window creativity and examines its effects on consumer responses. Through an expert evaluation survey, this study proposes that fashion store window creativity involves originality, relevance, and artistry. Two experiments are conducted to test the proposed hypotheses. Consumers' emotional responses to the level of window creativity are collected using psychophysiological and self-report methods. Fashion store window creativity has positive effects on psychophysiological affective responses. When the three dimensions of creativity are specified as explanatory factors of emotional responses, relevance and artistry show positive effects on arousal and pleasure, whereas originality has a negative effect on pleasure. Its effect on attitudes is mediated by arousal and pleasure; in addition, the effect on entering intentions is mediated by arousal. Attitudes toward window display also have a positive effect on entering intentions. This study extends existing research on creativity in marketing into the context of visual merchandising in fashion store windows. Findings provide meaningful implications in that the effects of fashion store window creativity on emotions affect consumer attitudes and behavioral intention. By adopting multiple approaches in the empirical phase of this study, the findings are built on strong reliability and validity.
This study was intended to examine the influence of health consciousness on health/taste inferences, affect-based inferences, and perceived conflict between taste and health in food decision making. Seven hundred and fifty-four participants completed the survey. Structural equation modeling with a maximum likelihood method was used to test the relationships among constructs, following the two-step approach. The results of this study showed that more health-conscious consumers have a higher perceived healthfulness of food items but lower anticipated taste. In addition, this study also found consumers' cognitive responses influenced affective responses. Results suggested that when restaurants promote menu items as both healthy and tasty, consumers' positive hedonic emotions (such as pleasure) increased and negative self-conscious emotions (such as guilt) decreased, and consumers' efforts to balance health and taste were supported. At last, the implications both for academia and marketing were also established and discussed.
The aim of this study was to determine whether or not cardiovascular reactivity parameters serve as good indicators in identifying differential emotion in children. The study particularly focused on five emotions(i.e., happiness, sadness, anger, stress, and boredom), thus, study participants were introduced to a combination of music, color, stories, and dolls to induce complex emotions. During the experiment, corresponding cardiovascular reactivity in response to the conditioned stimuli were recorded on physiological parameters including HR, RSA, HRV, HF HRV, LF HRV, and FPV. After the cardiovascular reactivity responses were measured, participants rated on the types and intensity of emotions they had experienced during the emotional stimuli exposure. Results on psychological response show that four emotions except for stress were appropriately and effectively induced participants by emotional stimuli. Findings of physiological responses suggest that, except for RSA, all of the physiological indicators show significant differences among five emotions. This indicates that children' emotions can be measured and differentiated by cardiovascular reactivity, or in other words, emotion specific responses have the ability to distinguish different emotions in children.

With the development of e-commerce, live streaming e-commerce, as an emerging marketing method, is on the rise. It integrates various ways of information delivery, providing consumers with unprecedented shopping experiences, particularly through its interactive nature, which can increase audience engagement and immersion. This study delves into how interactive elements in live streaming e-commerce influence consumer emotions and purchase intentions. By employing literature review and empirical analysis methods, we analyzed various interactive factors in the live streaming e-commerce environment and revealed the process through which these factors stimulate audience emotions and lead to specific purchasing behaviors. The results confirm that the interactive appeal of live streaming e-commerce significantly influences consumers' positive emotional responses, consequently enhancing purchase intentions. This study aims to explore the relationship between the interactive features of live streaming e-commerce and consumer emotional responses and purchase intentions, thereby filling theoretical gaps in the field of live streaming e-commerce and proposing new marketing theories. Additionally, by analyzing how interactive features stimulate consumers, optimal live content strategies can be proposed for live streaming e-commerce platforms and hosts, thus aiding in the improvement of marketing strategies and sales effectiveness.

Technology for emotion recognition is an essential part of human personality analysis. To define human personality characteristics, the existing method used the survey method. However, there are many cases where communication cannot make without considering emotions. Hence, emotional recognition technology is an essential element for communication but has also been adopted in many other fields. A person's emotions are revealed in various ways, typically including facial, speech, and biometric responses. Therefore, various methods can recognize emotions, e.g., images, voice signals, and physiological signals. Physiological signals are measured with biological sensors and analyzed to identify emotions. This study employed two sensor types. First, the existing method, the binary arousal-valence method, was subdivided into four levels to classify emotions in more detail. Then, based on the current techniques classified as High/Low, the model was further subdivided into multi-levels. Finally, signal characteristics were extracted using a 1-D Convolution Neural Network (CNN) and classified sixteen feelings. Although CNN was used to learn images in 2D, sensor data in 1D was used as the input in this paper. Finally, the proposed emotional recognition system was evaluated by measuring actual sensors.
