Nowadays to thrive on the intensively competitive environments based on drastic and rapid technical evolutions, exporting manufacturing companies need to keep very stable relationship with suppliers. Thus, analyzing key factors of strengthening relationship with suppliers in a B2B environment is important. In this regard, this study develops a research model to deeply understand key antecedents of relationship strength between B2B companies. Relationship quality was considered as the key factor affecting to the relationship strength. This study considers relationship satisfaction, trust, and relationship commitment as the factors of relationship quality. Moreover, technical service quality and relational service quality were considered to be the antecedents of relationship satisfaction, while communication and information exchange, relationship policies and practices, and opportunistic behavior were regarded as the antecedents of trust. The PLS method was applied for the empirical analysis of 107 companies data. The results indicated that the relationship commitment has a significant impact on relationship strength. Moreover, relationship satisfaction and trust had indirectly impact on relationship strength through relationship commitment. Although the quality of technical service quality had a significant impact on relationship satisfaction, relational service quality did not have a significant impact. While communication and information exchange, relationship policies, and practices had positively significant impacts, opportunistic behavior had a negative impact.
Given the recent trend in business markets to seek and conscientiously develop long-term relationships, it has become increasingly important to understand why such long-term relationships are developed and how they are maintained. Despite their obvious importance, the antecedent conditions and processes of long-term relationships between industrial buyers and suppliers have not been systematically studied. In this research, I report a study of the antecedents of industrial buyer-seller relationships and the relational performance. What kinds of factors contribute to the development of long-term relationships\ulcorner How do these factors influence the corporate performance in the business markets\ulcorner The primary motivation of this study was drawn from an interest in answering these research questions. Managerial implications of the study results are also discussed.
The effects of strategic partnership can be positive or negative. This paper intends to explain why the partnership produces opposite results. This paper incorporates strategic behavioral direction and perceived values for relational performance. The conceptual model as well as empirical analysis was made and the results are as follows. First, this study uses bi-directional decomposition of two research constructs. The first construct of perceived values is classified into benefits and risks. Also, the behavioral directions are either active or passive behaviors. The critical path is found that the perceived benefits make significant effects on active behavioral direction which does on commitment. Another path is that the perceived risks make passive behavioral direction which results in opportunistic behaviors between strategically partnered firms.
Korean traditional markets have been struggling of late as big-sized superstores and SSM(Super Supermarkets) are thriving in the market. They have therefore upgraded their facilities and undertaken management modernization actively to overcome the threat to traditional markets and ensure their competitiveness; however, the effect does not appear to be verifiable. The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of the organizational characteristics of the traditional market merchant association on social capital and organizational performance. In other words, this paper investigates a merchant association's organizational characteristics in terms of the modernization of business activities of the traditional markets and the influence on their social capital and organizational performance. This study analyzes the traditional market by evaluating the impact of these factors. This study consists of four hypotheses: The first hypothesis relates to the causal relationship between the characteristics of a merchant association and social capital. The second and third hypotheses, respectively, relate to the causal relationships between the social capital of a merchant association and the merchant's satisfaction and that between the social capital of a merchant association and organizational commitment. The last hypothesis relates to the relationship between the organizational commitment of a merchant association and the merchant's satisfaction. This study conducts a reliability and validity analysis of the above factors and analyzes the causal relationships between them by using the PLS(Partial Least Squares) path model as one of the structural equation models. The results of the empirical analysis are summarized as follows: First, the organizational characteristics of the traditional market merchant association have a significant influence on social capital. However, only two sub-hypotheses are not significant; these insignificant hypotheses relate to the relationship between a merchant's entrepreneurship and structural capital and that between a merchant's entrepreneurship and cognitive capital. Second, the social capital of a merchant association influences organizational commitment significantly. Third, the relationship between the social capital of a merchant association and the merchant's satisfaction is mostly significant. However, one of the sub-hypotheses, that is, the relationship between relational capital and a merchant's satisfaction is not exceptionally significant. Lastly, the organizational commitment of a merchant association affect the merchant's satisfaction significantly. Through our extensive study, this paper found that a merchant association's organizational characteristics of the traditional market significantly affect social capital, organizational commitment, and satisfaction through the mediation of social capital. Therefore, in order to activate the key traditional market, an understanding of organizational characteristics and social capital is primarily required. Systematic management and investment pertaining to these two factors will be the first consideration for revitalizing traditional markets.
This study has investigated the effects of relieving and promoting factors on dissolution intention under the condition of low commitment buyer-seller relationships. Based on intensive literature reviews, eight alleviating factors (dependence, cooperation, communication, relational norms, transaction specific investments, relationship termination costs, satisfaction, and trust) and five promoting factors (opportunism, conflict, goal incongruity, attractiveness of alternatives, and unfairness) were included. A total of thirteen hypotheses were testee using data collected from a dining franchising system. Among 300 collected, 79 cases of low commitment buyer-seller relationships were analyzed. The results showed that eight out of thirteen hypotheses were supported. But five hypotheses related to the variables of cooperation, transaction specific investments, relationship termination costs, attractiveness of alternatives, and opportunism were not supported. following a detailed presentation of the analysis results, the paper concludes by discussing the academic and managerial implications of the findings.
The goal of this study is to broaden our understanding about the antecedents for job turnover intention of salesforces. In addition to the previously studied antecedents such as job performance, satisfaction, organizational commitment, in this study we are particularly interested in the variable of alternative attractiveness which is often studied in social exchange theory, Thus, we suggest a model with a new antecedent for job turnover intention by introducing alternative attractiveness. We collected and analyzed the data from the survey on the 178 salespeople at the life insurance companies. We find the alternative attractiveness as an significant antecedent for the turnover intention. Specifically, the more attractive the alternative the greater the intention of turnover. However, we also find that the salesforces are less attracted to the alternative if they are satisfied with their works, Therefore, we believed this research can be a seminary work with the relational perspective for the studies of salesforce management.

We explore the determinants of long-term relationship between the buyer and the supplier to help suppliers develope a strategy to build long-term relationship with their buyers. Based upon an extensive literature review, we propose three droops of independent variables which may affect long-term relationship, including (a) environmental factors (product complexity, product importance, source dependence, price sensitivity), (b) relational factors(trust, commitment, satisfaction, intention of expansion), (c) operational performance(quality, delivery, cost capability, technical knowhow). The buyer's actual period of relationship with its main supplier is used as a dependent variable. Using hierarchical multiple regression analysis, we empirically test hypotheses, analysing a sample of 290 manufacturing firms in the U.S. The statistical results indicate that the buyer's source dependence, price sensitivity and the supplier's commitment play a significant role in establishing long-term relationship between the buyer and the supplier. However, the supplier's cost capability and technical knowhow in operational performance negatively affect long-term relationship in contrast with our hypotheses. Due to this controversial result, we divide the sample group Into dual sourcing and multiple sourcing environments and reconduct regression analysis in a post hoc manner. The findings show that the supplier's cost capability and technical knowhow are negatively associated with the length of relationship only in the multiple sourcing environment. The results may confirm that both parties' opportunistic behavior is more salient in the multiple sourcing environment than in the single sourcing environment.
Purpose - Universities are fostering the development of closer relationships with students due to the increase in competition among universities. Universities are placing greater emphasis on relationship quality as a source of competitive advantage. Thus relationship marketing has become an important strategic theme in higher education. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of faculty trustworthiness on relationship building process in the context of relationship marketing. For this study, faculty trustworthiness is divided into competence, benevolence, and integrity. And relationship development variables are composed of satisfaction, commitment, positive WOM, and negative WOM. Research design, data, and methodology - To empirically evaluate the proposed research model, this study was carried out using the survey with undergraduate students who were taking business courses. The 270 questionnaires were asked, and a total of 245 respondents provided complete and usable data. The sample consisted of 143 males(58.4%) and 102 females(41.6%). The variables of proposed model were measured on a 5-point Likert scale. The structural equation modeling analysis was used for the hypothesis test. Results - The overall fit of the model was acceptable(χ2=579.7(df=264, P=0.00), GFI=0.935, NFI=0.949, CFI=0.956, RMR=0.040). The results supported 6 hypotheses except for

. First, competence and benevolence were positively related to satisfaction, while integrity was not significant. A key result of the analysis was that benevolence has the strongest effect on satisfaction. Second, satisfaction had a positive impact on commitment and positive WOM but didn't significantly affect negative WOM. Third, commitment significantly enhanced positive WOM and reduced negative WOM. Conclusions - This study emphasizes the role of faculty trustworthiness based on a long-term relationship. And the findings suggest that the dimensions of faculty trustworthiness have differing effects on satisfaction. In particular, benevolence is found to be the most important factor. This study provides university managers with the following managerial implications. In order to increase the satisfaction of the students, university managers should focus on the faculty's competence and benevolence. Also, it is important that university managers take a relationship approach to maximize WOM effect.
The purposes of this study are following. First, we want to review the relationship between trust and precedent variables including shared value, communication and opportunistic behavior in the on-line and off-line channel. Second, building the relationship among variables from previous research, we develop the research model. Third, based on the empirical analysis, we want to build the relationship among variables. Fourth, based on results of analysis, we want to elicit implications for marketing management from the trust in on-line channel in order to enhance the relationship commitment and customer loyalty. Theoretical implications of this study are following. First, under the multiple channel retailing environment, trust in on-line channel is influenced by the trust in off-line channel that the company is operating. Previous researches couldn't found this result because these researches divided on-line and off-line channel separatedly, Second, under the multiple channel retailing environment, on-line or off-line relational attributes including shared value, opportunistic behavior and communication have a effect on trust or relationship commitment So, shared value, opportunistic behavior and communication are very important variables having a effect on trust and relationship commitment in not only off-line channel but also on-line channel. Third, trust and relationship commitment were important mediate variables in multiple channel environment. This result goes with previous researches in single channel.
This study is to set up a hypothesis and a research model based on how much the relational benefits can affect customer satisfaction and long-term relationship with the theoretical and practical results of established precedent researches, to analyze the structural equation model on casual dining restaurant diners, to evaluate the research model and subsequently to provide marketing implications. First of all, social and psychological factors prove to be influential among relational benefits felt by diners-out. Secondly, customer satisfaction has influence on long-term commitment for a restaurant. In other words, the higher customer satisfaction level for a restaurant is, the stronger willingness a customer has to recommend or revisit the restaurant, as several precedent studies support. As demonstrated in indirect advantages, these social and psychological benefits felt by diners-out have mighty effects on long-term relationship orientation, and satisfaction levels prove to be an important medium which can make these influences. As a result, restaurant employees' attitude toward customers is the most important factor rather than economic benefits such as reduced price, free gifts and coupons are, since customers put social and psychological benefits forward like intimate terms with restaurant workers, a sense of stability, and a relief from uneasiness. Therefore, constant service education should be done from the start to cope with customers' demands fast and flexibly and increase customer satisfaction.
