  • Lower flux leakage designs have become important in the development of microspeakers used in thin and miniaturized mobile phones. We propose four methods to reduce the flux leakage of the magnetic circuit in a microspeaker. Optimization was performed based on the proposed approach by using the response surface method. Electromagnetic analyses were conducted using the finite element method. Experimental results are in good agreement with the simulated results obtained in one degree-of-freedom analysis from 100 to 5 kHz. Both the simulated and experimental results confirm that one of the proposed methods is much more effective in reducing flux leakage than the other methods. In the optimized method, compared with a default approach, the average radial flux density in the air gap decreased only by 5.5%, the maximum flux leakage was reduced by 28.6%, and the acoustic performance at primary resonance decreased by 0.45 dB, which gap is indiscernible to the human ear.

  • In this paper, a practical implementation to reduce leakage flux of a high-frequency inverter based non-contact type power transformer composed of EE-shape ferrite cores is presented for key technology of the next generation medical use X-ray CT scanner system. Design consideration for the unique structure of the non-contact power transformer with 900mm in diameter is also introduced. The complete non-contact transformer is actually arranged by several blocks of the magnetic circuit assembled by using 10 small EE shape cores with 120mm in length. It is experimentally and analytically discussed from a reduced leakage flux viewpoint related to its inductively coupling coefficient. A practical method to lower the leakage flux is described based on effective Copper-Sheet- Treatment placed on EE shape ferrite cores of magnetic circuit.

  • The effective flux of X-Y linear motor is calculated with analytical method according to the arrangement of permanent magnet. In order to reduce leakage flux due to increased effective flux, the distance of the permanent magnet is adjusted. When the distance is 2[mm] between two magnets, the leakage flux is greatly reduced, and it is expected that if the segment of permanent magnet magnetized to x and y direction is added, the motor performance will be enhanced.

  • Generally, closed slots are adopted to reduce the water friction loss in both the stator and the rotor of water filling submersible motor due to the special environment of operation. One of the obvious differences between the traditional induction motors and water filling submersible motors is that the submersible motors only need relatively smaller starting torque. This paper aims to analyze the slot leakage reactance of water filling submersible motor during starting transient operation. An improved analytical method which considered the magnetic saturation of the slot bridge and the skin effect of rotor bars is proposed. The slot permeance factor which has a direct impact on the slot leakage reactance is calculated. Then finite element models with different stator slot types are constructed and search coils are introduced to measure the slot flux linkage. Moreover, the starting performances of the models with two typical stator slots are compared and the flux leakage characteristics are obtained. Finally, the results obtained by finite element method are very close to the results obtained by analytical method.

  • The first attention in designing a transformer for low temperature rise should be to reduce losses. Leakage inductance and temperature rise are two of the more impotent problems facing the magnetic core technology of today's high frequency transformers. Excessive leakage inductance increases the stress on the switching transistors and limits the duty-cycle, and excessive temperature rise can lead the design limitation of high frequency transformer with high current. The flat transformer technology provides a very good solution to the problems of leakage inductance and thermal management for high frequency power. The critical magnetic components and windings are optimized and packaged within a completely assembled module. The turns ratio in a flat transformer is determined as the product of the number of elements or modules times the number of primary turns. The leakage inductance increase proportionately to the number of elements, but since it is reduced as the square of the turns, the net reduction can be very significant. The flat transformer modules use cores which have no gap. This eliminates fringing fluxes and stray flux outside of the core. The secondary windings are formed of flat metal and are bonded to the inside surface of the core. The secondary winding thus surrounds the primary winding, so nearly all of the flux is captured.

  • Fault-tolerant capability, wide speed range and overload capability are required in electric motors used in electric vehicles. In this paper, based on the analysis of the all poles wound and alternate poles wound flux-switching permanent-magnet machines, an optimization method is studied to reduce torque ripple. The method takes account of both flux-leakage and cogging torque. The simulation result shows that the method can reduce the torque ripple effectively. This study lays the foundation for the further application of FSPM in electric vehicles.

  • Omni-directional shear-horizontal magnetostrictive patch transducers have a disadvantage that magnetic flux leakage into the plate when it is installed on a ferromagnetic plate. The leakage produces poor transduction efficiency and unwanted wave mode excitation which should be avoided in guided wave inspections of large plate-like structures. In order to resolve these problems, we newly developed a method to reduce the leakage into the plate. In the method, the patch and the magnet are vertically lifted off and their optimal positions are determined by numerical simulations. Also, the verification of the developed method is successfully verified by experiments.

During the optimization process, interpolation of levitation force was used to reduce the computation time which was needed to calculate the levitation force. Object function for optimization was total weight of the magnet system.

  • Magnetic wedge is proposed for improving the motor performance and to reduce the ripple of air gap flux. Carter's coefficient plays very important role when the ampere turns or exciting current is calculated. In this paper, we calculate the Carter's coe. by FEM taking into account the magnetic anisotropy of magnetic wedge in simple manner and analyze the effect of the wedge. And we analyze the slot leakage flux according to the wedge property.
