The Method of Handoff Using CLP on the WATM Network (무선 ATM에서 CLP를 이용한 핸드오프 방식)

  • In general. requirements for QoS are different according to the type of services in wireline and wireless ATM, and real-time video service is more sensitive to cell transmission delay than to cell loss. Existing handoff schemes emphasizing prevention of cell loss had limitations in cell transmission delay to satisfy QoS. In this paper, a novel scheme to transmit ATM cells with low CLP (when CLP = 0) prior to others and discarding cells with high CLP (when CLP = 1) in ATM cell header among cells to be forwarded during handoffs in real-time VBR service is proposed. The proposed scheme is proven to be suitable for the satisfaction of QoS and appropriate for fast handoffs by giving high CLP value to less meaningful MPEG frames through simulations.

  • 무선 ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) 망을 기본으로 하여 ATM망에서 사용하는 서비스 종류인 CBR(Constant Bit Rate), rtVBR(Real-Time Variable Bit Rate), nrtVBR(Non-Real-Time Variable Bit Rate), ABR(Available Bit Rate), UBR(Unspecified Bit Rate)에 따른 플로우를 우선 각 서비스 흐름에 따라서 공평하게 패킷 스케줄링 한다. 그리고 각 서비스 종류에 따라 대역이나 지연에 따라 모든 사용자의 다양한 서비스 트래픽에 공평하게 서비스하는 구조를 갖는다. 아울러 무선 통신망 채널에 에러가 발생할 경우를 고려하여 각 서비스 트래픽에 대한 QoS(Quality of Service)를 보장해주는 무선 ATM 통신망에서 동작하는 스케줄링 알고리즘을 제안하여 시뮬레이션과을 통해 기존의 방법과 성능을 비교하여 기존의 유선 통신망 스케줄링 알고리즘과 달리 무선망의 에러에 대한 각 트래픽의 에러에 대한 성능 향상에 대해 알아본다.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient quality providing scheme to satisfy a diversify combination of delay bound and loss ratio requirements from users by a predictive dynamic resource allocation method for real-time video applications. For utilizing the network resources more efficiently while meeting the service requirements, we adjust the resources based on the predicted traffic and the currently provided quality level. We developed a simple delayed-packet counter updating scheme for real time QoS monitoring. Simulation results show that our proposed method can provide an accurate and flexible quality control.

  • As the real time multimedia service become more popular, the needs of transmission with low delay and high quality are getting more stronger. Among those video compression technologies, the rate control method dose an important role in getting the effective data transmitting and the high image quality. In this paper, we combined the feature of CBR and VBR coding methods to propose a new bit-rate control method witch allows each frame to generates bits in the defined fluctuation range and applies a scene change detection at a part of frame and also can maintain low-delay and high quality even if the perfect VBR transmission environment is not guaranteed. The experiment result shows the proposed algorithm provides more effective method than TMN8 in real time application.

  • In this paper, a cell scheduling algorithm which can be applied to all of the service class in ATM network is proposed. The proposed algorithm classifies the order of priority in each service class into 4 categories and generates the weight of each class service based on the traffic parameters which are negotiated in connection contract. The proposed algorithm guarantees QoS(Quality of Service) to the traffic which is sensitive to delay carrying out CBR and rt_VBR service. As it effectively manages the connection which has small bandwidth, it minimizes the cell delay in the queue. For verifying the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm the proposed algorithm is simulated with existing cell scheduling algorithm and the result is showed.

  • While the international standards bodies recommend the dual leaky buckets for the traffic specification for VBR service, video traffic shows burstiness in multiple time-scales. In order to fill this gap between the current standards and real traffic characteristics, we present a standard-compatible traffic parameter selection method based on the notion of a critical time scale (CTS). Since the defined algorithm minimizes the required link capacity under a maximum delay constraint, it could be used as a benchmark even when it can not be implemented easily. Simulation results with compressed video traces demonstrate the efficiency of the defined traffic parameter selection algorithm in resource allocation.

  • Today's Internet is providing a single service which is so-called "best-effort service". Now, multimedia and real-time applications are not only demanding large bandwidth but also requiring high QoS. For this, MPLS and DiffServ technology can be adopted to support more scalability and QoS for data traffic engineering. The DISN(Defense Information Systems Network) supports CBR service for voice traffic and VBR service for data traffic which is best-effort service. We propose how to adopt MPLS and DiffServ technology to support traffic engineering and guarantee QoS in the DISN. A traffic analysis according to prioritized traffic classes is done using OPNET simulation tool for assuring QoS. The result shows that low priority packets are delayed a little bit, but high priority packets are transferred more efficiently than without traffic engineering.gineering.

  • In this paper, we propose a customer premise platform for processing multimedia data service on the ATM network. The proposed platform has a specific AAL2 processor that includes AAL2 protocol and scheduler algorithm so as to off-load large potion of burden from host processor and make it easy to process multimedia data from the ATM network in real time compared with conventional platform in which AAL/ATM tasks are processed by software. The ATS scheduler that is implemented based on 2-level time slot ring provides a simple and efficient method for scheduling data of VBR-rt, UBR and CBR traffics. TMS320C5402 DSP is used to process voice-related tasks such as voice compression and voice packet manupulation and AAL2 processor is implemented on $0.35\;{\mu}m$ process line. We implemented the customer premise equipment for VoDSL service and tested the proposed platform on a test bed network. The experimental results show that the proposed equipment has the call success rate of $97\%$ at least and provides voice service of toll-qualify.

  • On ATM networks, ABR services are provided using the remained bandwidth after allocating CBR and VBR traffic. Realtime services such as transmitting audio or video data may be provided using CBR and VBR which have a constrained transmission delay, but in these cases, the communications bandwidth may be wasted. This paper proposes an efficient bandwidth allocation algorithm to transfer real-time data using ABR service. The proposed algorithm guarantees MCR and allocates bandwidth to each connection proportional to its MCR. The proposed algorithm divides the connections in two groups - a satisfied state group and a bottlenecked state group - and enhances bandwidth utilization by allowing the remained bandwidth after allocating the connections in the satisfied state to be allocated to the connections in the bottlenecked state. Our algorithm uses a Queue control function proposed by Ghani[5] to keep the Queue length within some boundary, which makes the transmission delay constant. We simulate and compare the performance of the proposed algorithm with that of the algorithms proposed by ATM Forum[1] and Kalampoukas[2].

  • IEEE 802.11e proposed by IEEE 802.11 working group to guarantee QoS has contention based EDCA and contention free based HCCA. HCCA, a centralized polling based mechanism of 802.11e, needs a scheduling algorithm to allocate the network resource efficiently. The existing standard scheduler, however, is inefficient to support for QoS guarantee for real-time service having VBR traffic. To improve these limit, in this paper, we First, we propose priority polling algorithm which additionally considers the size of MSI and TXOP based on EDD algorithm to increase number of QSTAs. We also propose a dual token bucket TXOP allocation algorithm to reduce congestion caused by stations which enters network with considerable delay variance. TSPEC parameters, Maximum Burst Size (MBS) and Peak Data Rate (PR), are applied to design depth and token generation rate of two buckets. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has much higher performance compared with reference and SETT-EDD scheduler in terms of throughput and delay.
