Reading education has been recognized as being important area in the education. But it has many limitations to achieve education effects, because it is very difficult to process in reality. In these days, traditional education methodology needs to be changed for the development of computer science and network communications. It is also applied at the area of reading education. To achieve educational goal in reading education, students must be able to interchange their views without restrictions of time and space. Through this circumstances, they can improve logical thinking and discussion ability. Therefore we need the reading education system which supports reading actions as well as reading instruction. In this paper, a web based reading education system is designed and implemented to improve logical thinking and discussion ability.

This study compared the behavior of using the reading room of the university library before and after COVID-19 and confirmed the changes and characteristics. As a subject of the study, 579,555 reading room usage data for the 2019-2021 school year, three years before and after the outbreak of COVID-19, were collected and analyzed for reading room utilization. In addition, the purpose of visiting the library was compared based on 120,090 data usage logs, and the relationship between the characteristics and usage rate of each reading room was analyzed. Ultimately, it is intended to suggest a way to increase utilization by reflecting the needs of users derived from changes in usage behavior during the COVID-19 period in the reading room space of the university library. It is hoped that the results of this research will be used as basic data for the operation of library reading rooms and the establishment of space reconstruction policies to cope with the New normal era after pandemic.

The purpose of this study is (a) to identify physical and content elements of children's books that seem to interest second and fifth graders to read, and (b) to observe how the influence of those elements on children's reading interest shifts as children develop. For the purpose of this study, children's books are classified into two groups: 'books of low preference' and 'books of high preference' as determined by second graders, and fifth graders' library circulation record in the library chosen as the sample for the present study. The physical and content elements of the books belonging to these two groups are analyzed and compared. Main findings and conclusions made in this study are summarised as follows: (1) The physical elements of children's books which have significant relationship with second graders' reading preference are illustration quantity, size of types, space between lines, and size of the book. (2) The content elements of children's books which have significant relationship with second graders' reading preference are the readability level of sentences, and the sex of heroes. (3) The physical elements of children's books which have significant relationship with fifth graders' reading preference are illustration quantity, illustration styles, and size of the book. (4) The content elements of children's books which have significant relationship with fifth graders' reading preference are the readability level, the sex of heroes, subject matters, themes and the environmental settings as the background of stories. (5) Reading preference of the pupils at the second and fifth grades are influenced by the quantity of illustration. Second grade pupils prefer reading books which contain a larger quantity of illustrations, whereas 5th grade pupils prefer books which contain less quantity of illustrations. (6) The relationship between second graders' reading preference and the illustration style are rejected at the $10\%$ significance level. A strong relationship, however, appears to exist between 5th graders' reading preference and the illustration style. The 5th grade pupils prefer more realistic illustrations, while cartoons and semi-abstract drawings do not appeal to them. (7) The type size, and space between lines which have had great influence on the book preference of 2nd grade pupils influence little on the 5th grade pupils book preference. (8) Second grade pupils prefer the book of a small Size, whereas 5th grade pupils whose reading taste has developed at a primary stage prefer the book of a large size beyond a certain standard. (9) Second grade pupils prefer reading books which can be easily read, whreeas 5th grade pupils prefer reading books containing difficult sentences. (10) Second grade pupils and the 5th grade pupils both prefer books in accordance with the sex of there heroes. (11) Relationship between second graders' reading preference and the subject matters are rejected at the 10% significance level. A strong relationship, however, appears to exist between 5th graders' reading preference and the subject matter. Fifth grade pupils prefer reading books of which the themes are mystery, exploration and adventure. (12) The theme of books is not proved to relate with the book preference of the 2nd grade pupils, but it is closely related with the book preference of 5th grade pupils. Fifth grade pupils prefer reading books which contain exploratory stories. (13) Second grade pupils are not influenced by the environmental setting of the story, but 5th grade pupils prefer reading stories with the environmental setting in the air. (14) The quantity of illustrations is the element influencing most on .the book preference of the 2nd grade pupils, followed by the space between the lines, which influences least on the book preference of the 5th grade pupils. (15) The physical element influencing most on the book preference of the 2nd grade pupils is the quantity of the illustrations. The physical element which has the most strong influence on the book preference of the 5th graders is illustration styles. (16) The content elements which has much influence on the book preference of the 5th grade pupils are certain kinds of characteristics of heroes. In case of the 2nd grade pupils book preference, striking evidence of such characteristics of heroes is not traced.
The university library plays the most important role in university. It provides the space and facilities to keep a variety of books and read them. One facility which is the most frequently used in a library is a reading room. In reality, it is the place where many college students spend most of their time. However, there are sometimes severe competitions to get a seat in a reading room, especially near the time of examinations. In order to resolve this situation and to increase the student‘s satisfaction, these days, many universities have installed a seat management system. In this paper, first, problems on the management of a reading room and student’s responses are reviewed. Then operational issues on the seat management systems are investigated and analyzed through simulations. Finally, discussions are followed to improve the effectiveness of a seat management system.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the planning guideline of individual space size for public library. The 26 cases were selected from the data of outstanding libraries built after the year 2000. The paper focused on the comparison between the data from analysis and the guideline from manual book of public library. The result of this study was as followed ; The first, reference reading rooms were open-plan rather than segmented. The second, the percentages of reference reading spaces from the data were lower than the guidelines. It proved the fact that the role of public library expanded to cultural community space. The third, children's space retained sufficient numbers of book collections. It represented that people realized the importance of children's library in terms of cultural education. The fourth, the percentage of space size of cultural area showed high amount of numbers. It proved the fact that the public library as community center was required various cultural programs. The fifth, the percentages of preservation library were lower than the guideline in case of the big libraries, while the small libraries were higher. The book collections of detached annex libraries should be linked with the central libraries.
Library is a communication channel between book and human. Specially public library furniture plays an important role from every aspect in information materials and users, among users and in relationship between library managers and users. This study defined library furniture as a communication channel which connects library materials and users and was based on 35 local libraries and 12 overseas libraries. The author studied major elements and characteristics which constitute communication types among storage furniture, furniture in reading areas and furniture in digital reading area. The followings are the results from the study. First, storage furniture should be designed by reflecting characteristics of library materials and for effective delivering to the users. Therefore utmost communication can be made by searching for various designs in book-shelves and effective manner of display. Secondly, furniture in reading areas should support various users' needs from customized browsing to long hour studying and there should be properly supported for private space and correspondent reading postures. The third, there are needs for design conditions to support privacy and for comfort from long hour reading and mobility out of posture change in digital reading areas. The fourth, there should be ergonomically designed furniture plan and surroundings in public library which can boost various reading postures. Also furniture plan should be done by considering users' bodies and eyes orientations which can result in improved power of concentration.
This research investigated whether inter-word spaces, the spaces between words, can affect the efficiency of Korean-speaking CSL(Chinese as a second language) learners in Chinese reading of Korean-speaking's ability to read Chinese. Through eye movement tracking experiments, CSL learners of different proficiency levels(beginning, intermediate, and advanced) and native Chinese readers were asked to read Chinese sentences with and without inter-word spaces. The tests analysed the participants' fixation counts and the time spent in reading each sentences and also between each words. In terms of the fixation counts and time spent between sentences, the results show that there were no significant difference in participants' fixation counts from reading sentences with and without inter-word spaces. The results also prove that reading sentences with inter-word spaces significantly shortened the reading time for both CSL learners and native Chinese readers. Even for the participants' fixation counts and time duration between each words, participants spent significantly less fixation counts and reading time while reading words with inter-word spaces. The results were more prominent and positive in tests conducted with CSL learners of lower proficiency. This research shows that inter-word spaces in Chinese texts can enhance the efficiency of chinese learners' reading ability.
Lately, in public libraries, there are various service programs for child user by corresponding to importance of reading based education and also a variety of changes by accommodating family based cultural life style. Therefore there is a need for space planning based study on unit-data room. This study gives guide-line of space planning through categorizing of space plot and furniture lay-out in child data room. The researcher, as a first step, searched web sites of 29 data rooms of 26 libraries and summarized space plots and features of data rooms through in-person visits. Then the author made a categorization standard and did a general analysis of featured data rooms through multiple categorization steps. There are Basic Type, General Type, Book-Shelf Centered Type, Book-shelf Scattered type and Multi-Functional Type out of this categorization steps. In sum, six categorizing bases, dividing infant room from child room, space zonning, position of entrance, compactness of reading space, position of book-shelf and orientation of book-shelf will be important design standards for child data-room of future libraries and an effective guide-lines for other unit data-rooms.
This study was conducted under the premise that the university library's subject specialization room is in need of major modifications in order to accommodate the needs of various majors. The subject specialization room will be able to support university library users who are inclined to use the general reading room. Therefore, the study presents spatial planning for the average university library's subject specialization room by taking into account student majors. This could be a guideline for the construction and renovation of university libraries in the future. The summary of results for this study and the conclusions are as follows: 1)Natural sciences subject specialization room should be, partially connected with the humanities/social science subject specialization room in order to provide an open-concept reference room. In the shared area connecting the two subject specialization rooms needs to be installed a staff counter and subject specialist librarian service booth for users of both subject specialization rooms. 2)For humanities/social sciences subject specialization room, partially connect with the natural sciences subject specialization room. In the connecting area between the two rooms, plan an open-concept lounge for resting and reading. 3)It is best to plan subject specialization room for art/music/physical education majors separate from the subject specification room of other majors. Structurally separate art/music/physical education major subject specialization rooms from the building or plan a separate room in an art/music/physical education building. Users of art/music/physical education majors showed a high preference for a spatially separated and specialized library structure, which proves that an art/music/physical education library need to be planed based on the specialized library structure found in law school libraries or medical school libraries. Plan the center of the room with open-concept based reading room. Use wall-sides, partitions, or shelves to create reading space separate from the shelving area.
The purpose of this study is to execute evaluation experiment to know the evaluation property of lighting environment of residential space for senior people, considering visual characteristics along aging, and finally provide basic data for the lighting plan to ensure the visual amenity. Processes of this study are as follows;1) Analyzed the variation property of visual sensibility and visual ability of senior people along aging. 2) Selected 3 types of life behavior(rest, conversation and reading) after checking life behavior in residential space for senior people based on advanced study. 3) Made the Mock-up Model that Dimming is possible, actual furnace to model. 4) Executed sensitivity evaluation experiment about lighting environment. 5) Analyzed evaluation property of lighting environment of residential space for senior people. Results of this study are as follows, 1) With lens-filter, we got comfort and amenity in bulb-color lamp which has similar color temperature with red of lens filter. 2) Lighting environment tests during conversation : With lens filters, they felt comfort on bulb color in case of higher illuminance than 850lux and daylight color in 500lux. 3) Lighting environment tests at reading : With lens filter, bulb color got better score in brightness and appropriateness than daylight color.
