  • In this paper, we propose a radio sensor to measure the position of the sun for the solar tracker of a photovoltaic system. In order to satisfy the requirement for the measurement accuracy within ${\pm}5^{\circ}$, the sensor receiver with high gain, high sensitivity and wide bandwidth is designed and implemented. The receiver has the bandwidth of 104 MHz, the system gain of 69 dB and the sensitivity of 0.46 K at 5.1 GHz. The processes of design and implementation of the radio sensor receiver are described in this paper. The effectiveness of the proposed radio sensor in the measurement of the position of the sun is demonstrated experimentally under the condition of cloud cover. The results show the radio sensor can measure the position of the sun within the accuracy of ${\pm}4^{\circ}$ successfully.

  • Although the link between activity in the nuclei of galaxy and galactic mergers has been under scrutiny for several years, it is still unclear to what extent and for which populations of active galaxies merger-triggered activity is relevant. The environment of AGN allows an indirect probe of the past merger history and future merger probability of these systems, suffering less from sensitivity issues while extending to higher redshifts, compared to traditional morphological studies of AGN host galaxies. Here we present results from our investigation of the environment of radio selected sources out to redshift z=2. We employ the first data release J-band catalog from the new near-IR Infrared Medium-Deep Survey (IMS) and 1.4 GHz radio data from the Faint Images of the Radio Sky at Twenty-cm (FIRST) survey and a deep dedicated VLA survey of the VIMOS field, covering a combined total of ~20 sq. degrees. Given the flux limit of the combined radio catalog (0.1 mJy), we probe a radio luminosity range of 10^36-10^44 erg/s. Using the second and fifth closest neighbor density parameters, we test whether active galaxies inhabit denser environments and study these overdensities in terms of both distance to the AGN and its luminosity. We find evidence for a sub-population of radio-selected AGN that resides in significantly overdense environments at small scales, although we do not find significant overdensities for the bulk of our sample. We do not recover any dependence between the AGN radio-luminosity and overdensities. We show that radio-AGN inhabiting the most underdense environments in the field have vigorous ongoing star formation. We interpret these results in terms of the triggering and fuelling mechanism of radio-AGN.

  • We observed the radio sources found from the First Look Survey (FLS) field at the 1.4 GHz radio continuum emission with the Very Large Array (VLA) using the A configuration. We identify point sources and multi component sources at ${\geq}4{\sigma}$ level. We also present the submillimeter properties of the selected radio sources in the FLS field from the Herschel/SPIRE 250/350/500/${\mu}m$ and AzTEC 1.1mm surveys. The counterparts of the radio sources at submillimeter for these called 'submillimeter galaxies (SMGs)' are detected at infrared wavelength with the Spitzer MIPS 24 & 70 ${\mu}m$ sources. Based on the MMT/HECTOSPEC red-shift survey, IRS spectroscopy, and SDSS photometric red-shift survey, the radio sources are likely to be the extragalactic sources. Here, we use the star formation rate (SFR) derived from the MIPS 24 and 70 ${\mu}m$ luminosity to compare the measured SFR from the VLA 1.4 GHz luminosity. These results show that a tight correlation between the SFR from the radio luminosity and the MIPS $24{\mu}m$ rather than that from the MIPS $70{\mu}m$ luminosity. Radio and IR correlation is also used to indicate the radio and IR properties of star-formation in the galaxies and active galactic nuclei (AGNs). Using the counterpart sources selected at IR and radio wavelengths, we employ the IR/radio flux ratios to determine the properties and population of the selected galaxies.

  • In order to understand people's ideas about radio pagers and effects of the radio pagers on school violence prevention, the study analyzed a radio pager demonstration which was being participated by a total of 606 students. According to the findings from the analysis, first, when it comes to statistical differences between the two groups with the experience of school violence as either a victim or a assailant, both the victims and the assailants believed that the radio pagers is useful to prevent school violence. Both the groups were observed to be willing to use the radio pagers constantly. Second, regarding effects of the radio pagers on the school violence prevention, they were understood to have even a more positive influence both on the school violence prevention and the students' satisfaction with their school lives as a more number of the students possess the radio pagers, as the more the students need the radio pagers and lastly as the more the students feel content with the radio pagers. Based on the results of the analysis, implications and limits of the study were proposed.

  • The small radio frequency tracking radar is a tracking system with a radio frequency sensor that identifies a target through all-weather radio frequency signal processing for a target and searches, detects and tracks the target for the major target. In this paper, we describe the development of a board equipped with TMS320C6678 and XILINX FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array), a high-speed multi-core DSP that acquires target information through all-weather radio frequency and identifies a target through real-time signal processing. We propose DSP-FPGA combination architecture for DSP and FPGA selection and signal processing, and also explain the design of SRIO for high-speed data transmission.

  • The Ministry of Science and ICT recently announced its policy direction that involves charging the economic value of radio spectrum for promoting its efficient usage. According to the policy, there will be much efforts to estimate the economic values of various usages of radio spectrum. In this study, the economic value of radio spectrum is estimated for trunked radio system(TRS) by employing the least cost alternative methodology. The proposed methodology estimates the value of radio spectrum according to the cost of an alternative that can be employed for providing the same service. The value of radio spectrum for TRS was determined on the basis of the cost associated with the provision of TRS through the LTE network, wherein the value of radio spectrum for TRS comprises the LTE network cost, capital expenditure for the LTE service, subsidy for the LTE handset, and compensation cost for migration. Results obtained from this study can aid in calculating the economic values of radio spectra for other services and applications.

  • In this paper, we analyze the effect of mobility on the performance of full-duplex radio. For this, we implement a full-duplex radio prototype using a software-defined radio that is powered by a battery and can thus function in mobile environments. In addition, we compare the performance of self-interference cancellation schemes for two cases considering multi-antenna based full duplex radio and circulator based full duplex radio, respectively. Finally, we show a negative effect of mobility on the self-interference cancellation performance of the full-duplex radio system, and analyze the effect of the update period of the self-interference cancellation filter on the performance. In particular, when the update period is reduced by about 1000 times, the power of self-interference is reduced by 5.7dB for circulator-based full-duplex radio and 3.1dB for both antenna-based full-duplex radio.

  • This study is intended to find out how production people have been creating senior radio program. For this purpose, the study set up the three research questions and employed in-depth interviews with ten production people: First, production people find out senior radio listeners who have been very royal attendance of the program for a long time. And they examined senior listeners prefer to listen about health care, information about elderly life and singing contest. They have been made para-social interaction with master of ceremonies (MC). Second, unlike other radio program, the senior radio program has concentrated on the radio station's image and public interest rather than financial profit and viewing rate. Normally, it was known that radio program for senior used carried on break of the day. But some program has been broadcasted on prime time in the afternoon. Target audience of senior radio program has been expanded over the forties and the fifties from sixties. Thirdly, in general the role of producer is critically important to produce program. However, MC and scriptwriter are far more experienced and specialized on the field than producer in radio program for senior.
