A study of the directional recloser and sectionalizer protective coordination at 22.9[kV] distribution system with new renewable energy generation (신재생에너지원이 연계된 22.9[kV] 배전계통의 양방향 리클로저와 섹셔널라이저 보호협조 방안)

  • Recently, there has been growing interest in utilizing distributed generation (DG). However, an insertion of DG to existing distribution system can cause several problems such as voltage variations, harmonics, protective coordination, increasing fault current etc,. The typical protection system of the existing distribution system is designed for radial network. But penetration of DG to distribution system changes existing unidirectional power flow to bidirectional power flow. Therefore, investigation to cover whole field of distribution system must be accomplished such as changing of protection devices rating by increasing fault current, reevaluation of protective coordination. This paper presents that PSCAD/EMTDC simulations was accomplished to analyze effect of DG on the distribution protective coordination. In addition, directional recloser-sectionalizer coordination are evaluates distribution system with DG by using PSCAD/EMTDC simulation.

Stresses in FGM pressure tubes under non-uniform temperature distribution

  • The effects of material nonhomogeneity and nonisothermal conditions on the stress response of pressurized tubes are assessed by virtue of a computational model. The modulus of elasticity, the Poisson's ratio, the yield strength, and the coefficient of thermal expansion, are assumed to vary nonlinearly in the tube. A logarithmic temperature distribution within the tube is proposed. Under these conditions, it is shown that the stress states and the magnitudes of response variables are affected significantly by both the material nonhomogeneity and the existence of the radial temperature gradient.

  • Support Vector Machine (SVM) is one of the methods of pattern recognition that separate input data using hyperplane. This method has high capability of pattern recognition by using the technique, which says kernel trick, and the Radial basis function (RBF) kernel is usually used as a kernel function in kernel trick. In this paper we propose using the q-normal distribution to the kernel function, instead of conventional RBF, and compare two types of the kernel function.

  • Using the "MAGIC" code, computer simulation is performed to design a cathode structure which provides a radial distribution of electron beam density matching the field distribution of the $TM_{05}$ mode. Thus, very narrow band $TM_{05}$ mode microwave radiation can be generated in an open end waveguide. The simulation results show that the vircator can indeed be operated at the selected frequency 10.2GHz with a very narrow bandwidth(${\Delta}{\omega}/{\omega}$ < 1%).

  • The paper experimentally deals with the radial in-plane vibration characteristics of disk-shaped piezoelectric transducers. The radial in-plane motion, which is induced due to Poisson's ratio in the piezoelectric disk polarized in the thickness direction, was measured by using an in-plane laser vibrometer, and the natural frequencies were measured by using an impedance analyzer. The experimental results have been compared with theoretical predictions obtained by simplified theoretical and finite-element analyses. It appears that the fundamental mode of a piezoelectric disk transducer is a radial mode and its radial displacement distribution from the center to the perimeter is not monotonic but shows maximum slightly apart from the perimeter. The theoretically-calculated fundamental frequencies agree well with the finite-element results for small thickness-to-diameter ratio, and they are accurate within 7 % error for the ratio up to 0.4.

  • The islanding detection for distributed resources (DR) becomes an important and emerging issue in power system protection since the distributed generator installations are rapidly increasing and most of the installed systems are interconnected with distribution network. In order to avoid the negative impacts from islanding operations of DR on protection, operation and management of distribution system, it is necessary to effectively detect the islanding operations of DR and rapidly disconnect it from distribution network. Generally, it is difficult to detect islanding operation by monitoring only one system parameter This paper presents a new logic based islanding detection method for distributed resources(DR) which are interconnected with distribution network. The proposed method detects the islanding operation by monitoring four system parameter: voltage variation, phase displacement, frequency variation, and the variation of total harmonic distortion(THD) of current; therefore, it effectively detects island operation of DR unit operating in parallel with the distribution network. We also verified the efficiency of the proposed algorithm using the radial distribution network of IEEE 34 bus model.

  • The purpose of smart grid is the low $CO_2$ through expansion of renewable energy. To achieve the purpose of smart grid, typical radial power distribution system will be changed to loop power distribution system. The loop power distribution system have many advantages such as low power loss, low voltage drop, and increase of connection of renewable energy. In this paper, the algorithm for minimization of interrupted section of power distribution system is proposed through communication between circuit breaker and recloser in loop power distribution system. Initial Size Distribution of the Milky Way Globular Clusters

  • Unlike the initial mass function, the initial size distribution of globular cluster (GC) systems is not well known. We calculate the evolution of the mass function (MF), radial distribution (RD), and size distribution (SD) of the Galactic GC system. By comparing the results from this calculation and the present-day MF, RD, and SD of the Galactic GC system, we infer the initial SD of the GC system. We find that a Gaussian distribution of the half-mass radius and a Gaussian distribution of the half-mass to Jacobi radius ratio are the best-fit initial SDs of the Galactic GC system.

  • Distributed generation (DG) is predicted to play an increasing role in the electric power system of the near future. Distributed generation is by definition that is of limited size (roughly 10MW or less) and interconnected at the substation, distribution feeder or customer load levels. The effects of generation sources within a distribution network on the system losses are investigated in this paper. WLAV state estimation is performed with the composite distribution system containing DG. Simulations with test cases are performed and the results are presented, using IEEE34 bus radial distribution system.

  • Penetration of distributed generator(DG) to power distribution system can cause malfunction of existing protection schemes. Because grid interconnected DG can contribute fault currents and make bidirectional current flows on the system, fault contributions from DG can cause an interference of protection relay operation. Therefore, over current protection device of the distribution system with DGs need directional protection schemes. In this paper, improved directional protection algorithms are proposed for the distribution system with DG considering their fault characteristics. And than, these directional protection algorithms are tested and validated in various fault conditions. From the simulation results, it can be seen that the proposed directional protection algorithms are practically efficient for the radial distribution system with DG.
