  • In this study, an efficient algorithm is developed to compute steady state probabilities for the following M$_{x}$G/1 server vacation system under control-operating poligy: At the end of a busy period, the server takes a sequence of vacations, each for a random amount of time. At the end of each vacation, he inspects the length of the queue. If the queue length at this time is equal to or greater than a prespecified threshold value r, he begins to serve the queue until it is empty.y.

  • We consider an M/M/1 retrial queue with collision and impatience. It is shown that the generating functions of the joint distributions of the server state and the number of customers in the orbit at steady state can be expressed in terms of the confluent hypergeometric functions. We find the performance characteristics of the system such as the blocking probability and the mean number of customers in the orbit.

  • In this paper we propose a new packet scheduling mechanism to improve TCP throughput and fairness with estimated link state information in wireless networks, in which mobile hosts are receivers. Since a priori estimated link state information is used in this proposed mechanism, the entire packet transmission time can be reduced. In other words, packets scheduling procedure is performed before packets are transmitted using estimated link state. The proposed mechanism also has an temporary FIFO queue to store packets which are on the head of queue and can not be transmitted due to bad link state. Using this temporary FIFO queue, HOL(Head of Line) problem of FIFO queue can be resolved.

  • This paper offers an alternative to the common probability generating function approach to the solution of steady state equations when a Markovian queue has a multivariate state space. Identifying states and substates and grouping them into vectors appropriately, we formulate a two - dimensional Markovian queue as a Markov chain. Solving the resulting matrix equations the transition point steady state probabilities (SSPs) are obtained. These are then converted into arbitrary time SSPs. The procedure uses only probabilistic arguments and thus avoids a large and cumbersome state space which often poses difficulties in the solution of steady state equations. For the purpose of numerical illustration of the approach we solve a Markovian queue with one server and two classes of customers.

  • We consider the discrete-time GI/G/1/K queue under the early arrival system. Using a modified supplementary variable technique(SVT), we obtain the distribution of the steady-state queue length. Unlike the conventional SVT, the modified SVT yields transform-free results in such a form that a simple two-moment approximation scheme can be easily established.

  • This paper analyzes a discrete-time bulk-service queue with probabilistic bulk size, where the service process is interrupted by a Markov chain. We study the joint probability generating function of system occupancy and the state of the Markov chain. We derive several performance measures of interest, including average system occupancy and delay distribution.

  • We first describe an approximation method for fitting a k-state MMBP to the departure process of a D-BMAP/Geo/1/K queue. The fitting model is them used in a simple decomposition algorithm to analyze a tandem configuration of finite capacity queue with cell loss.

  • This work suggests a new analysis approach for a discrete-time GI/G/1 queue with multiple vacations. The method used is called a modified supplementary variable technique and our result is an exact transform-free expression for the steady state queue length distribution. Utilizing this result, we propose a simple two-moment approximation for the queue length distribution. From this, approximations for the mean queue length and the probabilities of the number of customers in the system are also obtained. To evaluate the approximations, we conduct numerical experiments which show that our approximations are remarkably simple yet provide fairly good performance, especially for a Bernoulli arrival process.

  • There have been some approximation analysis methods for a GI/G/1 queueing system. As one of them, an approximation technique for the steady-state probability in the GI/G/1 queueing system based on the iteration numerical calculation has been proposed. As another one, an approximation formula of the average queue length in the GI/G/1 queueing system by using the diffusion approximation or the heuristics extended diffusion approximation has been developed. In this article, an approximation technique in order to analyze the GI/G/1 queueing system is considered and then the formulae of both the steady-state probability and the average queue length in the GI/G/1 queueing system are proposed. Through some numerical examples by the proposed technique, the existing approximation methods, and the Monte Carlo simulation, the effectiveness of the proposed approximation technique is verified.
