  • As gas turbines for power generation become increasingly more important for high capacity and high efficiency, the technological development and investment of companies are increasing globally. Gas turbine manufacturing technology is only owned by a few companies such as GE, Siemens, and MHI, and our country currently depends on imports of processing technology and component parts. The core part of the gas turbine is curvic coupling tooth processing technology that improves turbine efficiency by smoothly transmitting power to the turbine rotor. Curvic coupling tooth machining and evaluation research is restricted overseas, and it is not underway in Korea. Therefore, in this study, roughing and finishing process technology for curvic coupling tooth machining is developed and a quantitative evaluation method is proposed. For the development of machining technology, the analysis of critical parameters was performed through C & E analysis. In the roughing process, the conditions considering the minimum machining time and tool load ratio were determined. Finishing process conditions were determined based on the contact ratio between the tooth surfaces. The image-processing method is presented for evaluation of the contact ratio and a verification test was performed.

  • The fiber dispersion in fiber-reinferced cementitious composites is a crucial factor with respect to achieving desired mechanical performance. However, evaluation of the fiber dispersion in the composite PVA-ECC (polyvinyl alcohol-engineered cementitious composite) is extremely challenging because of the low contrast of PVA fibers with the cement-based matrix. In the present work, a new evaluation method is developed and demonstrated. Using a fluorescence technique on the PVA-ECC, PVA fibers are observed as green dots in the cross-section of the composite. After capturing the fluorescence image with a charged couple device (CCD) camera through a microscope, the fiber dispersion is evaluated using an image processing technique and statistical tools. In this image processing technique, the fibers are more accurately detected by employing an enhanced algorithm developed based on a discriminant method and watershed segmentation. The influence of fiber orientation on the fiber dispersion evaluation was also investigated via shape analyses of fiber images.

  • The dried roots of Rehmannia glutinosa (RG) have been used in the traditional medicine for treatment of diabetes, fever and dysuria, etc. In order to investigate the quality evaluation of the dried roots of RG, we conducted the physico-chemical and biological evaluation method. The amount of catalpol from commercial samples is very diverse about $0.00{\sim}3.89%$ by using HPLC method, because it is easily decomposed by processing of RG. So, we should try to identify the correlation with the contents of catalpol and biological activities of RG. We chose 3 samples which were a wide difference of catalpol contents between each sample (Sample-I; 3.4%, Sample-II; 2.8%, Sample-III; 0.05%). Sample-I and Sample-II were found to be more effective than Sample-III on the DPPH free radical scavenging effect and inhibitory effect on $H_2O_2-catalyzed$ lipid peroxidation in rat liver in vitro. And, Sample-I and Sample-II exhibited more significant effects than Sample-III on accelerating actions of the small and large intestinal transport, and diuretic action in mice. So, it is suggested that the quantitative determination of catalpol should be required for the tandardization of the dried roots of RG.

  • In selecting a company of A-E service provider for a public construction project, public owners make widely use the evaluation method based on the quantitative criteria to emphasize transparency and fairness instead of putting more weighting on bidders' technical capability. The selection method and process to select technically better company has been in discussion to motivate company to build up their technical capability and better quality of service. This paper examined US laws and regulations related to evaluating and selecting an A-E company for public construction project in terms of principles, process, selection committee, evaluation methods, and contract management and so on. Then deduced several implications for domestic public owner to select the most adequate company for a certain architectural service through fair and efficient way. The major findings are technical capability based selection, emphasizing owner's role and responsibility, consideration of small and mid-sized company, debriefing, and post-service evaluation.

  • This study aims to introduce missile live-fire during the ship operational test and evaluation(T&E) as a means of verifying the integrated combat capability(ICC) of various systems installed on naval ships. The research method identified domestic and foreign T&E systems and cases, and reports related to ICC, which were written during the ship's design stage. As a result of research, Republic of Korea is not conducting the missile live-fire at the ship T&E stage due to the lack of relevant systems, while the U.S. is conducting it based on the mission-based T&E and the end-to-end test system. As a way to improve within the current domestic ship acquisition systems, the reaction time analysis, a quantitative analysis result of ICC calculated at the ship basic design stage, was proposed to be verified by missile live-fire during ship operational T&E.

  • Facility management is to maintain and develop the primary structural, functional, aesthetic performance of facility in order to guaranty the users' daily convenience and safety. However it is hard to maintain and serve their intended function and safe environment from the beginning as times go by. As present educational government of city and local area has been performing formally facility check and management as well as maintenance of school facility, it is hard to respond a dangerous situation at the suitable time and safety prevention plans are delayed. In addition, educational environment improving budget have been unreasonably decided not according to the allocating criteria. Therefore, this research developed a same, simple, and quantitative evaluation method of deterioration level of elementary, middle, and high School in Korea and verified usability of the method through the case study.

  • In order to deduce an objective evaluation method of motion seasickness incidence (MSI) by ship motions during underway in irregular waves and to present the fundamental data of passenger comfort on the yacht and the passenger ship according to the result, the MSI of the trainees by the questionnaires was analysed and compared with the rate of variation of salivary ${\alpha}$-amylase activity (VSAA) on the training ship "A-ra ho" of Jeju national university. Relationship between rate of variation (x) by salivary ${\alpha}$-amylase activity and motion seasickness incidence (y) was described by the equation, MSI(%) = 0.6073 x + 12.189 including the correlation coefficient ($R^2=0.9853$). The result obtained through the rate of variation of salivary ${\alpha}$-amylase activity which was the quantitative evaluation method for ship motions causing seasickness was most affected by z-vertical acceleration and occurred within the frequency range 0.1 to 0.3Hz centered on 0.2Hz, and the simulation result based on this finding showed the motion seasickness rate at approximately 4% lower than the rate obtained through the survey.

  • Selecting a suitable place is to determine the attributive conditions and qualified areas for the aim as factors and is to be fulfilled systematically for selecting the area which satisfies all these. This research tries to achieve a rational suitability analysis of residential development using the GIS modeling method and the hierarchical analysis process. A spatial and attributive analysis has been systematized for selecting a suitable place for the study and GIS analysis model has been used for the effective conclusion drawing for different levels. As a next step, a quantitative and qualitative evaluation index was created through complex consideration of the criteria and decision factors of the location selection, and weights were added depending on the relative importance of these factors. In particular, 3D terrain model simulation method has been used in order to reflect the aesthetic factors of the scenery which is an element of the subjective evaluation factors and considered qualitative and subjective evaluation factors which were not considered for the existing AHP technique. After the research, a location that satisfies complex requirements was found rapidly and accurately through the GIS model and hierarchical analysis.

  • In heterogeneous and distributed computing environments, with an increasing number of Web services providing similar functionalities, the reliability of Web services is a critical decision factor. To fulfill the open business model such as cooperation among enterprises, several Web services can be composed into the upper level business transaction. In Web services composition, the reliability of services is more and more critical. Though each unit Web service can be reliable, the reliability of the composed service is not guaranteed. Thus a way to efficiently assess and select composed Web services is needed. In this paper, we define new metrics for measuring the trust value of Web services, and propose an evaluation method to predict the trustworthy degree of the composed services based on the metrics. We also define a conceptual framework to support optimal Web services selection based on the proposed trust evaluation method. By selecting using the quantitative measurement rather than intuitive selection of the service user, it allows the service users to select the high reliable service meeting their quality requirements well.
