  • Critical to more widespread use of Internet telephony are the smooth interoperability with the existing telephone network and the improved quality of voice connections. Of these requirements, this interoperability comes through the use of Internet Telephony Gateway's which perform protocol translation between an IP network and the Public Switched Telephone Network. In this paper, we have focused on the necessity and possibility of interoperability, and furthermore derives the necessary requirements for interoperability between IP networks and PSTN. For this purpose, we have analyzed the signaling protocols for gateway system. Then, we have modelled the inter-working part using the Petri-Net model. Through reachability trees of the Petri-Net model, we have confirmed that interoperability is possible, and that characteristics of deadlock, liveness, and boundness are satisfied.

  • The modulation quality of the I/Q modulator in a wireless transmitter usually affects system performance and it mostly depends on both a nonlinearity and a distortion, from the third order intermodulation($IM_3$) signal and the error components such as an input amplitude error and a local phase error, respectively. This paper focused on how much the Single Sideband Ratio(SSR), which indicates the signal distortion, changes according to the variation of the error components. Consequently, since a desired signal, side band signal at the I/Q modulator output are also represented with those power series coefficients and the error components, the effects of the error components on SSR to meet the EVM specification of the WPAN can be clearly analyzed.

Efficient Implementation of the MQTT Protocol for Embedded Systems

  • The need for embedded devices to be able to exchange information with each other and with data centers is essential for the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT). Several existing communication protocols are designed for small devices including the message-queue telemetry transport (MQTT) protocol or the constrained application protocol (CoAP). However, most of the existing implementations are convenient for computers or smart phones but do not consider the strict constraints and limitations with regard resource usage, portability and configuration. In this paper, we report on an industrial research and development project which focuses on the design, implementation, testing and deployment of a MQTT module. The goal of this project is to develop this module for platforms having minimal RAM, flash code memory and processing power. This software module should be fully compliant with the MQTT protocol specification, portable, and inter-operable with other software stacks. In this paper, we present our approach based on abstraction layers to the design of the MQTT module and we discuss the compliance of the implementation with the requirements set including the MISRA static analysis requirements.

  • IT Convergence with agriculture is expected to bring more efficiency and quality improvement in producing, distributing, consuming of agricultural products with the aid of information processing and autonomous control technologies of the IT area. However, there exist many difficulties to establish services and systems to actualize the IT convergence service in the agricultural field to cope with various objects such as time-varying weather changes, growth condition of farm products, and continual diseases.   • The development in the design process is usually based on the choice of a method for designing the system, in which this method is frequently faced with tightening environmental requirements, reducing development cycle times and growing complexity. To tackle such factors, the paper proposes a comprehensive approach focusing on applying systems engineering approach to the building design support. In particular, this paper addresses all capabilities of using some available systems engineering standards (like EIA-632) in the design process. Then, a methodological approach is proposed for the practice of requirements engineering by applying quality assessment and control to design in early phase. The paradigm used, here is to extend and particularly to adapt the work carried out in military and space systems to modern building services by taking into account the semantics of buildings in terms of different engineering fields and architecture issues.

  • ISO 9001 is being used by architectural design and engineering firms in order to strengthen the capability of business activities through the implementation of advanced ISO 9000. However, there have been significant problems in stable settlement of ISO 9000 in design and engineering company, which seem to be caused by lack of proper and comprehension. For the purpose this research was conducted by a cluster analysis of 646 audit reports out of representative 15 companies that have been audited from 1997 to 2003. The analysis showed that the most problems were generated in the areas of "Design and Development", "Production and Service Provision", and "General requirements" of ISO 9000. This research also shows that the corrective actions for disposition of nonconformities should be implemented to achive ISO 9000 standards.

  • The United States Food and Drug Administration is responsible for ensuring US residents receive safe and effective medicines. Since blood levels of drugs are correlated with pharmacological effect, FDA closely regulates how those blood levels are measured. The FDA has established requirements for bioanalytical analyses such as minimum method validation, SOP, and reporting criteria. The FDA also has standards for computer validation which must be followed to ensure the data are reliable. Data presented to the Agency are scrutinized to ensure they are accurate and a true reflection of the raw data generated in a study. To verify the quality of data, FDA has developed an inspection program. The specific requirements of the FDA related to bioanalysis will be discussed.

  • Construction robotics is rapidly forming a market in conjunction with the development of sensing and artificial intelligence technologies. The layout work for accurately constructing the shape and dimensions of the building frame requires high accuracy and precision, and is one of the high demands for productivity and quality improvement through construction automation. Thus, as a preliminary study, we derived the elemental factors and performance requirements for developing an automated layout robot. In addition, alternatives on driving and marking units were investigated based on literature review and practioner's interview. The result of this study will be used as a basic data for the layout robot design.

  • A prerequisite for improving the quality of a product is to enhance the quality of its parts supplied from outsourced enterprises. An enterprise certified by ISO 9001 Quality Management System is expected to develop their effective quality assurance system and maintain it through continuous control and improvement, thereby ensuring the good quality of products that they produce. However, it is reported that small and medium-sized enterprises certified by ISO 9001 have difficulty establishing an effective quality assurance system. This study aims to propose a new method of improving a quality assurance system that can be more effective in small and medium-sized enterprises. This study collectively considered requirements specified in several international standards on quality system and the results of expert group brainstorming to identify evaluation areas and items for assessing a quality assurance system. Based on these evaluation areas and items, a set of checklists for diagnosing and improving a quality assurance system was developed. In order to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed method, this study applied it to ten small and medium-sized enterprises and could identify four approaches for improving their current quality assurance system. The presented improvement method, which consists of establishment of quality goals and quality innovation plan, defective products corrective activities, 4M and design change process, improvement of customer quality information management, is expected to be utilized as a useful tool for the enhancement of the quality assurance system of small and medium-sized enterprises.

  • IP QoS is not required to overcome the limitations of the existing Best Effort Service to connect to the explosion of the Internet traffic revenue. To IP QoS requirements of next-generation communication network, Metric Sizing Methodology is very important. However, IP networks have been developed with a focus gender flexibility and scalability than the QoS. Therefore, it is necessary to secure the quality measures for different existing IP technology to apply QoS in IP networks. When establishing the connection quality and transmission quality, based on the IP QoS(Quality of Service) objective data quality metrics can be obtained by analyzing the communication quality hindrance. Understanding the communication quality level may evaluate quality sensitive area and quality hindrance. Establish effective quality metrics can be expected to promote effective and customer satisfaction through improved quality, improved call quality for this issue.
