Effect of Carbonized Wastewoods on Purification of Wastewater (목질폐잔재 탄화물의 수질정화 효과)

  • This study examined the effect of carbonized wastewoods on purification of waste water. The purification ability of charcoals(lump-shaped, approximately 3×3×3 cm) maded by wood-based material for waste water from a kitchen and septic tank was superior to those of thinned wood. For lump-shaped charcoal, gaps between particles in particleboard, and gaps between fibers in MDF were much more effective than micropore in purification of waste water. After purification test, color of waste water from wood-based material charcoals were much more lighter than thinned wood charcoals. In addition, odors of waste water from both charcoals tended to be decreased.

  • In order to purify the waste water containing natural fatty oil, hydroxy radical and/or ozone are used to remove the fatty oil dispersed in the waste water. The fatty oil is decomposed by oxidation reaction through hydroxy radical and ozone, and eliminated as a function of first order reaction. It is clearly confirmed that the fatty oil in waste water can be effectively removed much more in the use of both hydroxy radical and ozone than only hydroxy radical as an oxydant. In addition, the decomposition chemical reaction mechanism of the fatty oil by hydroxy radical and ozone is proposed.

  • This study aims to explore a set of indicators to be used for purification management. by estimating the total quantity of depositied waste in coastal waters, Through 3 rounds of Delphi technique, this study sorts out the following 5 variables to be used as major indicators determining priorities for purification in coastal areas: the ratio of re-deposition after collection, the area where fishing gear are lost, the total quantity of depositied waste of each coastal water, the total quantity of deposited waste in the past, and the quantity of depositied waste by unit area. Although the fact that the delphi surveys were done only on 27 specialists limits its external validity, this study will serve as a base for in-depth studies with more expanded panels that will provide better indicators for purification management in coastal waters of Korea.

  • An eco-friendly water purifier was developed using natural minerals, plants, and sludge from water purification plants. A wastewater complex treatment system using this water purification agent was developed. The wastewater complex treatment system goes through the process of inflow of contaminated water, input of water purification agent, operation of a pressurized flotation device, sludge flotation, sludge collection and treatment water discharge. This device was applied to the removal of green algae in livestock desorption liquid, broiler washing water, factory wastewater, sewage treatment plant and pond to obtain excellent removal rate. The use of natural water purification agents for organic waste purification has not been investigated.

  • The individual rotten water purification tank recently discharges wastewater and sewage through the outlet without purification ability. The outlet water and affiliated water purification tank with microorganism cultivator tank cultivates microorganism and then drops the value BOD, COD of sewage and discharges the quality of water into the outlet. The blower and water pump operating continuously prompts the waste of energy and deterioration of equipment. Each room of deposition tank, foaming tank, microorganism cultivator tank is equipment with the sludge detection senses so it can detect the density of each room. The power-drive plant of the blower and water pump which ate the system cultivating the microorganism must be made as fuzzy controlization (If the sludge amount of each room become higher, the rate of operation of blower and water pump must heighten, on the contrary, in case of row sludge amount, the total handling amount and microorganism handling amount of each room of control. Tank reducing the rate of operation must be DB. At present, the blower amount in proportion to the sludge and oxygen demanding amount has to control. Each mom must be checked outlet level of the outlet, also each room must flow backward discharge materials, and must operate feed-back control until we want to be come as a below value of BOD/COD(10PPM ; KS).

  • The pool $(3m{\times}6m{\times}10m{\times}$ in Irradiated Materials Examination Facility is generally used to transport irradiated materials between a moving cask and hot-cell. During the operation in the pool such as loading/unloading the cask, holding specimen and bucket elevation, water maybe contaminated by radioactive or contaminated impurities from irradiated materials. Then, it must be purified and filtered continuously to keep lower radioactivity than that of regulation prescribed by RCA Korea Activity in a part of radioactive contamination control. This paper described radioactive contamination distribution of water as transported materials, which is related to effective operation of purification and filtration system.

  • In this research, an educational automatic purification facility of waste water is designed. The system has four functions which are filter tank, aeration tank, reactor tank and ultraviolet sterilization tank, and is embodied by PLC(Programmable Logic Controller), DC motor, solenoid valve, squirt gun, propeller, profile, switch, sensor and so on. Also, the system is designed and manufactured based on knowledges which are obtained from college education. The study is emphasized on "learning by doing". From this case study, students can increase their originality and adaptability for related industry. Also, the technique can be initiated industry if needed.

  • The yeast strain was isolated from food industry waste water and its identification and biological characteristics were investigated. The optimum condition for cultivations and its activities for the reduction of B.O.D. on the food industry waste water were also confirmed. The results are as follows; 1) The isolated was identified as Candida curvata. 2) Candida curvata grew well in all of the experimented media, so and it can be regarded as a useful strain in the treatment of food industry waste water. 3) There was only a slight difference in the induction period between sterilized cultivation and unsterilized cultivation. But in the ice cream waste water, the period was considerably longer in unsterilized cultivation. 4) Specific rate of growth of Candida curvata in sugar waste water was 0.50/hr, ice cream waste water 0.50/hr, and beer waste water 1.0/hr. 5) Increasing of innoculum reduced the induction period in unsterilized cultivation. 6) The amount of dried yeast from sugar waste water were $175mg/{\ell}$, ice cream waste water $628mg/{\ell}$, and beer waste water $857mg/{\ell}$. Crude protein content in the dried yeast from sugar waste water were 52%, ice cream waste water 54%, and beer waste water 54%. 7) The rate of BOD reduction in sugar waste water were 49%, ice cream waste water 80%, and beer waste water 64%.
