This study was aim to provide rheumatoid arthritis patients the basic data of development of nursing intervention to help psychosocial adaptation of rheumatoid arthritis patients as exploring the relationship among causal perception, coping pattern, psychosocial adaptation of rheumatoid arthritis. As the results of this study the mean score of causal perception of the subjects was 3.37. The score of the internal-unstable was the highest. which was followed by extra-stable, internal factor, internal-stable, external factor and external-unstable in order among the factor of causal perception. The mean score of coping pattern was 2.64. The type of coping patterns the score of the receptive coping was the highest, which was followed by wishful coping active coping and negative coping in order among the type of coping pattern. The mean score of psychosocial adaptation was 3.28. The subconcept of psychosocial adaptation the score for personal relationship was the highest, which was followed by role function and mental state in order among the psychosocial adaptation. The analysis of the relation among causal perception, coping pattern and psychosocial adaptation showed significant negative correlation between causal perception and psychosocial adaptation(r=-0.3219, P=0.002). The analysis of the relation between the type of coping pattern and psychosocial adaptation showed significant negative correlation between psychosocial adaptation and active coping(r=-0.3210, P=0.002), negative coping(r=-0.2296, P=0.032). Only causal perception(-.36) and period of illness(-.26) effected on the psychosocial adaptation were shown to the negative direction significantly. The psychosocial adaptation was explained the 17% by these two variables. Based on this study results the factor of causal perception and the type of coping pattern of rheumatoid arthritis were shown significant relations between psychosocial adaptation. We suggests that nurses in practice apply to assessing the factor of causal perception of individuals illness and the type of coping patterns when nursing interventions in rheumatoid arthritis patients.
Purpose: To evaluate several risk factors related to re-ulceration of diabetic foot including psychosocial aspects such as familial support and degree of independence of patients' activity. Materials and Methods: We reviewed medical records and performed telephone interview with eighty-five patients who had a history of hospitalization in our hospital due to diabetic foot ulceration from year 2002 to 2010. Based on the collected data, we analyzed several factors such as age, gender, prevalence duration, accompanying diseases, HbA1c level, degree of independence and familial support. Results: The mean age was 61.4 years and most common in the 4th decade. There were 57 cases (67%) of recurrence, predominance of male. Eleven patients with recurrent diabetic foot ulceration had undergone major amputations. Psychosocial problems such as depression, insufficient familial support and mortality were more frequently observed in recurrent group. Conclusion: This study shows that psychosocial factor such as familial support for patient with diabetic foot could be important to reduce the recurrence rate of diabetic foot ulceration. Therefore, we should pay attention to strategic plans for prevention, screening, treatment, and aftercare through the prospective studies including psychosocial risk factor in diabetic foot ulceration.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and test a structural model on cardiovascular disease risk factors among male manufacturing workers. Methods: Data were collected through questionnaires and health exams from 201 workers in a local electronic company during September 2004. Data analysis was done with SAS 9.1 for descriptive statistics and PC-LISREL 8.54 for covariance structural analysis Results: The overall fit of the hypothetical model to the data was moderate, it was modified by deleting five paths. The modified model had a better fit to the data($x^2=504.23$(p<001, df: 180), $x^2/df=2.80$, GFI=.95, RMR=.07, NFI=.90, PGFI=.64). Health behaviors and psychosocial distress were found to have significant direct effects on the cardiovascular disease risk factors. Self-concept had direct effect on psychosocial distress or health behaviors. Self-concept, work environment, and work condition had direct effect on social support. Work environment had indirect effect on psychosocial distress. Social support had indirect effect on health behaviors. But work environment and work condition were found to have little direct effect on health behaviors, psychosocial distress or cardiovascular disease risk factors. Conclusion: A cardiovascular health promotion program should therefore include psycho-social factors as well as health behavioral determinants in worksites.
Purpose: The increasing survival rate of colorectal cancer demands various nursing interventions and continuous care for patients to adapt to their psychosocial daily lives. The purpose of this study was to identify factors associated with psychosocial adjustment in colorectal cancer survivors. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study with face-to-face interviews was conducted of 156 colorectal cancer survivors after surgery visiting an outpatient cancer clinic at a tertiary hospital in S city, Korea. Posttraumatic growth, health-promoting behavior, length of treatment, difficulty in activities of daily living, and having a stoma were entered into the linear regression model. Results: The strongest factor influencing the level of psychosocial adjustment was health-promoting behavior (${\beta}=.33$, p<.001), followed by difficulty in activities of daily living (${\beta}=-.24$, p=.001), posttraumatic growth (${\beta}=.20$, p=.004), and having a stoma (${\beta}=-.19$, p=.004). Conclusion: Nursing interventions for psychosocial adjustment in colorectal cancer survivors need to include the contents for posttraumatic growth, as well as health-promoting behavior, and activities of daily living.
Despite advances in medicine and preventive strategies, fewer than 1 in 5 people with hypertension have the problem under control. This could partly be due to gaps in fully elucidating the etiology of hypertension. Genetics and conventional lifestyle risk factors, such as the lack of exercise, unhealthy diet, excess salt intake, and alcohol consumption, do not fully explain the pathogenesis of hypertension. Thus, it is necessary to revisit other suggested risk factors that have not been paid due attention. One such factor is psychosocial stress. This paper explores the evidence for the association of psychosocial stressors with hypertension and shows that robust evidence supports the role of a chronic stressful environment at work or in marriage, low socioeconomic status, lack of social support, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, childhood psychological trauma, and racial discrimination in the development or progression of hypertension. Furthermore, the potential pathophysiological mechanisms that link psychosocial stress to hypertension are explained to address the ambiguity in this area and set the stage for further research.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of emotional labor and self-efficacy on psychosocial stress of nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional correlation study design was used. The participants were 186 nurses from two general hospitals in Jeju Island, South Korea. A self-report questionnaire was used to collect data including data on emotional labor, self-efficacy, and psychosocial stress. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, t-test, ANOVA, and hierarchical multiple regression. Results: Approximately 98% of the participants were categorized as having potential and high risk stress levels. Hierarchical multiple regression showed that employment status, surface-acting, and self-efficacy explained 37.0% of psychosocial stress and self-efficacy was the main factor influencing psychosocial stress. Conclusion: Nursing administrators should understand that nurses suffer from high risk stress and emotional labor. To reduce the psychosocial stress of nurses, there is needed to improve stressful work conditions such as irregular employment, decrease surface-acting, and improve self-efficacy.
Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the factors that influence the psychosocial adjustment of organ transplant recipients. Methods: Participants were 132 organ transplant recipients who received follow-up more than 3 months after the organ transplantation at one general hospital in Seoul. A questionnaire survey was done from November 3 to December 3, 2015. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression. Results: Family support, medical staff support and hope were significantly correlated with psychosocial adjustment. In the hierarchical multiple regression analysis, hope appeared to be the most important factor influencing psychosocial adjustment (${\beta}=.39$, p<.001). Conclusion: The findings show that hope had an influence on the psychosocial adjustment of organ transplant recipients. Thus, to improve psychosocial adjustment it is important for nurses to develop interventions to increase hope in organ transplant recipients.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between psychosocial factors and symptom experience of patients with cardiovascular disease over a 6-month follow-up period. Method: Baseline data for each of the 138 patients were collected. Eighteen patients were dropped for a final total of 120 patients in the present study. To monitor patients' symptom experience after discharge, each patient was interviewed by telephone, and interviewed directly with a questionnaire at each clinic visit. Results: Mean scores for hostility, anger, anxiety, and depression were 51.63, 22.87, 48.95, and 41.21, respectively. Mean scores for the level of symptom experience at discharge, 3 months and 6 months after discharge were 32.83, 24.79, and 26.70, respectively. There were significant differences in the level of hostility by gender, BMI, job, and monthly income. Also the differences in the level of anxiety and depression were statistically significant according to gender and existence of spouse. In the regression analysis, depression was identified as the significant factor associated with symptom experience at discharge, 3 months, and 6 months after discharge. Conclusion: This study presented baseline data to elucidate whether psychosocial factors were associated with the progression of cardiovascular diseases. Accordingly, it suggests that nurses need to take into consideration psychosocial factor as well as physiological factor in symptom management for patients with cardiovascular disease.

Adolescent psychosocial smoking prevention programs have been successful, but limited in the magnitude of program effects on the reduction of smoking behaviors. This is primarily due to the mixed results of independent studies with program variations. This systematic, quantitative research synthesis is designed to identify program key factors that are likely to increase program effects. The present study examined school-based psychosocial smoking prevention programs (1978-1997)among students in grades 6 to 12 in the United States. Theoretical formulations in this analysis of mediating effects posit that program impact on knowledge and/ or skills is associated with less smoking behaviors among program participants. Knowledge factors investigated in this study included health effects, social consequences, social influences, and social norms. Skill factors included affective skill, self-efficacy, assertiveness, self-control, problem solving, and refusal skill. The findings from this study highlight the importance of social consequences knowledge factor and assertive communication skill factor in decreasing adolescent smoking behaviors.
