  • The relationships between nutritional status and psychological functionings in elementart school children were studied using dietary survey, physical and biochemical examinations and psychological measures of both cognitive and personality traits. The results obtained are as follows: (1) Performance of Y school (higher economic class) children on the tests of cognitive functionings, was generally higher than that of B school(lower economic class) children. The means of all anthropornetric measurements were also higher in Y than B school children. (2) Nutrient intakes were found to be positvely correlated with the psychological funtionings of the children to the varing degrees depending on the variables tested. However, the correlations between the physical measures and psychological functionings were low. (3) Most nutrient variables showed positive correlations with body size. (4) The functionings of both cognitive and personality traits are of utmost importance reflecting the positive effects of balanced diet on behavior.

  • Objective: Meditation can elicit trait-like changes in psychological and social styles, as well as enhancement of emotional regulatory capacity. We investigated the relation between personality traits and emotional intelligence in meditation practitioners. Methods: Seventy-two long-term practitioners of mind-body training (MBT) and 62 healthy comparative individuals participated in the study. The participants completed emotional intelligence questionnaires and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Results: The MBT group revealed higher scores on all five emotional intelligence factors than did those in the control group, such as emotional awareness and expression, empathy, emotional thinking, emotional application, and emotional regulation (all $p{\leq}0.001$). MBT practitioners also had higher scores on the intuition of perceiving function (t=-2.635, p=0.010) and on the feeling of the judging function (t=-3.340, p=0.001) of the MBTI compared with those in the control group. Only the MBT group showed a robust relationship with every factor of emotional intelligence and MBTI-defined intuitive styles, indicating that higher scores of emotional intelligence were related to higher scores for intuition. Conclusion: Emotional intelligence of meditation practitioners showed notable relationships with some features of personality trait. In-depth associations between emotional intelligence and personality traits would help to foster psychological functions in meditation practitioners.

  • Counterproductive work behaviors are behaviors by employees intended to harm their organization or organization members. Human is the being has a desire and behaviors. To understand behaviors of an individual, it is important to understand the personality which determines a difference between individuals. Narcissists has psychological traits to be likely to experience negative emotions, such as frustration, hostility or anger, and this psychological traits of narcissists are more likely to induce an aggression. In this view, the purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between counterproductive work behaviors and narcissistic personality characteristics and to explore psychological dynamics about how narcissistic personality characteristics had an effect on counterproductive work behaviors. As a result, facts known were as follows. First, narcissists has strong desires to maintain a sense of superiority over others and defend their egos against unpleasant evaluation information, even if the information is factual and accurate. Second, narcissists are hyper-sensitive to negative information and are more likely to encounter information or situations that challenge their positive self-appraisals by this view. Third, in response to these challenges, or ego threats, these individuals are more likely to experience negative emotions, such as anger, frustration, or hostility. Forth, this negative emotions lead to aggression and as a result, this is more likely to induce counterproductive work behaviors such as theft, sabotage, interpersonal aggression, work slowdowns, wasting time and materials, and spreading rumors. Thus, narcissism is another individual difference variable that may be an important factor in determining counterproductive work behaviors, particularly under conditions perceived to be difficult or stressful.

As for the method of research, a research study was implemented by using the questionnaire method. Seven factors were selected for makeup behavior: fashionability, conformity, subjectivity, instrumentality, interpersonal orientation and conspicuousness. The selected psychological traits were personality, death attitude and depression. Preference for general makeup image and for the makeup image of funeral portrait were investigated in terms of four: agreeableness, refinement, individuality and dignity. The subjects in this study were 651 female elderly residents in and around Seoul who were in their 60s to 80s. Concerning data analysis, factor analysis, Cronbach alpha coefficient, Pearson productmoment correlation coefficient, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test and multiple regression analysis were utilized. Concerning the influence of the elderly women's makeup behavior, personality, death attitude, depression and demographic variables on preference for the makeup image of funeral portrait, their preference for an agreeable makeup image was analyzed. Thus, makeup behavior, personality, death attitude and depression were identified as the variables to exert a significant influence on preference for the makeup images of funeral portrait. The findings of the study are expected to help make makeup for funeral portrait entrenched as a part of the beauty industry and to make a contribution to the development of the beauty industry.

  • Objective : Dynamic proteolysis, through the ubiquitin-proteasome system, is an important molecular mechanism for the constant regulation of synaptic plasticity and stress responses in humans. In this study, we examined whether genetic variants in the ubiquitin-specific peptidase (USP) genes were associated with psychological traits of resilience and susceptibility to neuropsychiatric disorders for each gender. Methods : A total of 344 Korean healthy youths (190 males, 154 females) were included in the study. A genotyping of rs2241646 of USP2 and rs346006 of USP46 was performed. The Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale and Brief Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale were administered for measuring trait resilience and social anxiety, respectively. The genetic associations of the USP variants were tested using multiple analyses of covariance with psychological traits as dependent variables after controlling for age in each gender. Results : For USP2 rs2241646, women with the TT genotype showed significantly higher resilience and lower social anxiety, as compared to those carrying the C allele. There were no associations between USP46 rs346005 and the psychological traits in both genders. Conclusions : The present study showed a possible genetic association between the USP2 rs2241646 and stress resilience and trait anxiety in women. The findings suggest that ubiquitin-proteasome system may be related to the resilience and susceptibility to stress-related neuropsychiatric disorders such as anxiety disorders, possibly through the regulation of dynamic proteolysis responses to stress.
