Satellite communication for high altitude platform stations (HAPS) and geostationary orbit (GEO) systems suffers from sand and dust (SANDU) storms in desert and arid regions. The focus of this paper is to propose common relations between HAPS and GEO for the atmospheric impairments affecting the satellite communication networks operating above Ku-band crossing the propagation path. A double phase three-dimensional relationship for HAPS and GEO systems is then presented. The comparison model present the analysis of atmospheric attenuation with specific focus on sand and dust based on particular size, visibility, adding gas effects for different frequency, and propagation angle to provide systems' operations with a predicted vision of satellite parameters' values. Thus, the proposed system provides wide range of selecting applicable parameters, under different weather conditions, in order to achieve better SNR for satellite communication.
This study aims to extend the application of the spectral element method (SEM) to wave propagation and free vibration analysis of functionally graded (FG) plates integrated with thin piezoelectric layers, plates with tapered thickness and structure on elastic foundations. Also, the dynamic response of the smart FG plate under impact and moving loads is presented. In this paper, the dynamic stiffness matrix of the smart rectangular FG plate is determined by using the exact dynamic shape functions based on Mindlin plate assumptions. The low computational time and results' independence with the number of elements are two significant features of the SEM. Also, to prove the accuracy and efficiency of the SEM, results are compared with Abaqus simulations and those reported in references. Furthermore, the effects of boundary conditions, power-law index, piezoelectric layers thickness, and type of loading on the results are studied.

The nonlinearity parameter is frequently measured as a sensitive indicator in damaged material characterization or tissue harmonic imaging. Several previous studies have employed the plane wave solution, and ignored the effects of beam diffraction when measuring the non-linearity parameter ${\beta}$. This paper presents a multi-Gaussian beam approach to explicitly derive diffraction corrections for fundamental and second harmonics under quasilinear and paraxial approximation. Their effects on the nonlinearity parameter estimation demonstrate complicated dependence of ${\beta}$ on the transmitter-receiver geometries, frequency, and propagation distance. The diffraction effects on the non-linearity parameter estimation are important even in the nearfield region. Experiments are performed to show that improved ${\beta}$ values can be obtained by considering the diffraction effects.
In this study effect of different mulching materials on yield and crude saponin contents in Anemarrhena asphodeloides Bunge. The results of this study are summarized as follows: The rhizome yield of seed propagation type in transparent PE mulching cultivation was of which increased 16.7% more than those of non-mulching cultivation. The rhizome yield of young-plant propagation type in green PE mulching and transparent PE mulching cultivations were of which increased 29.4% and 26.5%, respectively more than those of non-mulching cultivation. The contents of methanal extract of seed propagation type in transparent PE mulching and black PE mulching cultivations were of increased each 31.0%, 15.4% more than those of non-mulching cultivation. Crude saponin contents of seed propagation type in transparent PE mulching cultivation was increased up to 30.3% compared to those of non-mulching cultivation. However, the crude saponin contents of seed propagation type in green PE mulching and black & white PE mulching cultivations were not affected by the non-mulching cultivation. Crude saponin contents of young-plant propagation type in transparent PE mulching cultivation was increased 24.0% and 15.4% more than those of green PE mulching and black PE mulching cultivations.

The shear behavior and reinforcement effects of simply supported reinforced concrete deep beams with web opening subject to concentrated loads have been scrutinized experimentally to verify the effects of structural parameters such as size, location and reinforcements of web opening. A total of 14 specimens were tested at the laboratory under two-point top loading. The shear span ratio was taken constantly 0.8, and various types of reinforcements based on truss models were adopted. In the tests, the effects of loction, reinforcements of web openings on the shear behavior, and crack initiation and propagation have been carefully checked and analyzed.
A relatively simple theoretical model for predicting the shock thickness is applied to the weak shock propagation through sea water, where the boric acid and the magnesium sulfate are the major relaxation processes. The relaxation effects increases the shock thickness by the factor of 103 compared with the thickness based on the classical absorption only. In seawater with the ambient pressure of 125 atm and 15℃ temperature, the effects of the boric acid are dominant when the peak pressure is less than 0.3 atm and 3 atm. For the shocks of peak pressure greater than 5 atm, the effects of the classical absorption theory is enough to describe the shock thickness. The effects of the ambient pressure and temperature on the shock thickness are also evaluated.

The necessity of nondestructively inspecting austenitic steels, fiber-reinforced composites, and other inherently anisotropic materials has stimulated considerable interest in developing beam models for anisotropic media. The properties of slowness surface playa key role in the beam models based on the paraxial approximation. In this paper, we apply a modular multi-Gaussian beam (MMGB) model to study the effects of material anisotropy on ultrasonic beam profile. It is shown that the anisotropic effects of beam skew and excess beam divergence enter into the MMGB model through parameters defining the slope and curvature of the slowness surface. The overall beam profile is found when the quasilongitudinal(qL) beam propagates in the symmetry plane of transversely isotropic austenitic steels. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the effects of these parameters on ultrasonic beam diffraction and beam skew. The MMGB calculations are also checked by comparing the anisotropy factor and beam skew angle with other analytical solutions.
Vibration is expected to occur in microtubules as tubular heterodimers. They oscillate like electric dipoles. Several research studies have estimated a frequency of vibration using the orthotropic model, a beam or rod like models and shell models, considering the surface forces. The effects of body forces on the dynamics of the microtubules were not yet taken into account. This study seeks to capture the body force effects on the vibration modes generated and on the corresponding frequency for microtubules. An orthotropic elastic shell model for the structural details of microtubules is used for the analysis. The tests are conducted out for microtubules, exposed to electro-magnetic and gravitational forces, the transverse vibration, radial mode vibration, and axial mode of vibration have accomplished. We therefore, evaluate and compare microtubules' frequencies with prior results of vibration frequency without the effects of body force.
Abstract: Surface topography has a significant influence on seismic wave propagation in a reflection seismic exploration. Effects of surface topography on two-dimensional elastic wave propagation are investigated through modeling using a weighted-averaging (WA) finite-element method (FEM), which is computationally more efficient than conventional FEM. Effects of air layer on wave propagation are also investigated using flat surface models with and without air. To validate our scheme in modeling including topography, we compare WA FEM results for irregular topographic models against those derived from conventional FEM using one set of rectangular elements. For the irregular surface topography models, elastic wave propagation is simulated to show that breaks in slope act as a new source for diffracted waves, and that Rayleigh waves are more seriously distorted by surface topography than P-waves.

This study proposed a two-dimensional horizontal numerical model based on the nonlinear shallow water wave equations to simulate tsunami propagation and coastal inundation. We numerically investigated the possible impacts of tsunami caused by the triple interlocked Tokai, Tonankai and Nankai Earthquakes on the Jeju coastal areas, using the proposed model. The simultaneous Tokai, Tonankai and Nankai Earthquakes were created a virtual tsunami model of an M9.0 earthquake. In numerical analysis, a grid nesting method for the local grid refinement in shallow coastal regions was employed to sufficiently reproduce the shoaling effects. The numerical model was carefully validated through comparisons with the data collected during the tsunami events by 2011 East Japan Earthquake and 1983 central East Sea Earthquake (Nihonkai Chubu Earthquake). Tsunami propagation triggered by the combined Tokai, Tonanakai and Nankai, Earthquakes was simulated for 10 hours to sufficiently consider the effects of tsunami in the coastal areas of Jeju Island. The numerical results revealed that water level fluctuation in tsunami propagation is greatly influenced by water-depth change, refraction, diffraction and reflection. In addition, the maximum tsunami height numerically estimated in the coastal areas of Jeju Island was about 1.6 m at Sagye port.
