  • BEASY is a soft-ware tool which may be used to solve problems in heat transfer(linear and non-linear, steady state and transient) and linear elastic stress analysis. It is based on the boundary element method. The central part is the analysis module, called BEASY. For pre- and post-processing the BEASY Interactive Modeling System BEASY-IMS can be used. Three examples are devoted to show the capability of BEASY.

  • The objective of this study is to confirm the field application of coarse aggregates technology mixtured with high strength mortar under the rail. In the present study, the field tests are performed to find the field state and aggregate gradations and the laboratory tests are performed to find the compressive strength of the pre packed concrete cylinder specimens and the core specimens obtained at the field.

  • We studied the controlling parameters of flux emergence with a focus on the relation between the configuration of coronal magnetic field and the pre-emeged state of subsurface magnetic field. We performed a series of magnetohydrodynamic simulations (dynamic model) and find an interesting result on the twist of coronal magnetic field, that is, the coronal magnetic field formed via flux emergence actually contains less amount of twist (relative magnetic helicity normalized by magnetic flux) than what is expected in kinematic models for global-scale solar eruptions. Based on this result, we propose another possible mechanism for producing these global-scale solar eruptions.

  • Dynamic modelling and controller design technique for constant-frequency series resonant converter with buck type preregulator are mainly described in this paper. An equivalent circuit model is derived and a state equation is developed from this model. To improve the dynamic performance, a negative feedback of inductor current is added to the proportional and integral control of output voltage. Furthermore, an optimization technique with prescribed eigenvalue region is applied to the determination of feedback gains. With the presented design method, much better dynamic performance can be obtained.

  • A stabilizing control method for linear systems with model uncertainties and hard input constraints is developed, which does not require on-line optimizations. This work is motivated by the constrained robust MPC(CRMPC) approach [3] which adopts the dual mode prediction strategy (i.e. free control moves and invariant set) and minimizes a worst case performance criterion. Based on the observation that, a feasible control sequence for a particular state can be found as a linear combination of feasible sequences for other states, we suggest a stabilizing control algorithm providing sub-optimal and feasible control sequences using pre-computed optimal sequences for some canonical states. The on-line computation of the proposed method reduces to simple matrix multiplication.

Revision of Modified Cam Clay Failure Surface Based on the Critical State Theory (한계 상태 기반 수정 Modified Cam Clay 파괴면)

  • This paper proposes a revised Modified Cam Clay type failure surface based on the critical state theory. In the plane of the mean effective and von Mises stresses, the original Modified Cam Clay model has an elliptic failure surface which leads the critical-state mean effective stress to be always half of the pre-consolidation mean effective stress without hardening and evolution rules. This feature does not agree with the real mechanical response of clay. In this study, the preconsolidation mean effective stress only reflects the consolidation history of the clay whereas the critical state mean effective stress only relies on the currenct void ratio of clay. Therefore, the proposed failure surface has a distorted elliptic shape without any fixed ratio between the preconsolidation and critical state mean effective stresses. Numerical simulations for various clays using failure surfaces as yield surface provide mechanical responses similar to the experimental data.

Identification of Histone Deacetylase 2 as a Functional Gene for Skeletal Muscle Development in Chickens

  • A previous genome-wide association study (GWAS) exposed histone deacetylase 2 (HDAC2) as a possible candidate gene for breast muscle weight in chickens. The present research has examined the possible role of HDAC2 in skeletal muscle development in chickens. Gene expression was measured by quantitative polymerase chain reaction in breast and thigh muscles during both embryonic (four ages) and post-hatch (five ages) development and in cultures of primary myoblasts during both proliferation and differentiation. The expression of HDAC2 increased significantly across embryonic days (ED) in breast (ED 14, 16, 18, and 21) and thigh (ED 14 and 18, and ED 14 and 21) muscles suggesting that it possibly plays a role in myoblast hyperplasia in both breast and thigh muscles. Transcript abundance of HDAC2 identified significantly higher in fast growing muscle than slow growing in chickens at d 90 of age. Expression of HDAC2 during myoblast proliferation in vitro declined between 24 h and 48 h when expression of the marker gene paired box 7 (PAX7) increased and cell numbers increased throughout 72 h of culture. During induced differentiation of myoblasts to myotubes, the abundance of HDAC2 and the marker gene myogenic differentiation 1 (MYOD1), both increased significantly. Taken together, it is suggested that HDAC2 is most likely involved in a suppressive fashion in myoblast proliferation and may play a positive role in myoblast differentiation. The present results confirm the suggestion that HDAC2 is a functional gene for pre-hatch and post-hatch (fast growing muscle) development of chicken skeletal muscle.

Validity for Classifying the Stages of Change among the Dietary Assessment Methods on Eating Fruits and Vegetables for American College Students

  • The objective of this study is to establish outcome validity for three instruments that assess whether subjects met recommendations for daily servings of fruits and vegetables for“Stage of Change”research. A convenience sample of 294 college students was recruited from introductory nutrition classes at Michigan State University in the United States. To measure servings of fruits and vegetables, separately, three types of methods (self-rated intake, 24-hour recall and food frequency) were used in comparison to the servings from a three-day food record, the criterion used. The outcome validity was assessed based on whether or not at least two servings of fruits and three servings of vegetables were reported. Validity was assessed by sensitivity, to measure the ability to detect low intakes, and by specificity, to measure ability to detect adequate intakes. Cohen's kappa was used as well to examine the agreement between the three methods and a three-day food record. The results showed, for fruits, the 24-hour recall had the best agreement (recall 0.54, self-rated : 0.31, food frequency : 0.29) with a three-day food record for servings consumed by people in pre-action or post-action stages. Sensitivity for fruit was also best using a recall (0.81). For vegetables, however, all three methods had low agreement (food frequency : 0.27, recall : 0.21, self-rated : 0.17) with the results of the three-day food record. Self-rated intakes for vegetables had the best sensitivity (0.66) and the food frequency had the best specificity (0.73). Therefore, researcher can use the 24-hour recall method to identify people who consume inadequate servings of fruit. To detect adequate vegetable intake, the food frequency was best of the three methods. Accuracy may be improved by probing for vegetables in mixed dishes and on sandwiches.   • Besides the imposition of taxes and mandatory actions, why in a special rules needed in the contract between state and civilians. The contract between the state and civilian are unlike with civilian's contract in the comparable effect, even if the effect of the agreement and the parties bear the structural nature of the self-other agreement between private economic actors and there are a variety of different specificity. In other words, the agents of the contract with the state government for control of opportunistic behavior are very specific rules exist. Through this, even if it is the relationship between state and non-mandatory private realms of the contract, even if the area forced me to the fact that the difference can be confirmed. Representative of the government of the country to understand the delegate decisions and judgments and other opportunistic behavior always seem to exist on the possibility of such devices for the pre-control needed.
