  • Diesel generator is most widely used for supplying of emergency electrical power. There have been extensive research efforts to develop ways to Ensure stable electrical power delivery to the loads using hybrid power sutures, such as power source, storage batteries, fuel cells and solar cells. Furthermore, as the role of these diesel generators for emergency electrical power supply has recently become very important, they should assure high reliability and flexibility according to the operation load. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce a controller to be used in diesel generator toenable tracking control of maximum power according to the load variation and suppressing high-order harmonics while maintaining stable frequency.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the amount of available wave power and its characteristics related to the development of apractical system for ocean wave energy conversion in Korean coastal waters. The analysis method of wave power was established through comparison between theory and numerical simulation of deep sea wave by Inverse Fourier Transform with random phase method. Based on the results of comparison, wave power was estimated by use of data set from observed offshore and coastal waves and hindasted deep sea waves around the Korean peninsula. Annual mean wave power is estimated as about 1.8 ~ 7.0 kW for every metre of wave frontage at East sea, 1.5~5.3 kW at South sea and 1.0 ~ 4.1 kW at West sea, respectively. Mean wave power along deep sea front of coastal waters of Korea amounts to about 4.7 GW. Regional distribution and seasonal variation of wave power were discussed to develop practical utilization system of wave power of not so high grade of available wave power.

  • To reduce interconnect delay and power consumption while improving chip performance, a three-dimensional integrated circuit (3D IC) has been developed with die-stacking and through-silicon via (TSV) techniques. The power supply problem is one of the essential challenges in 3D IC design because IR-drop caused by insufficient supply voltage in a 3D chip reduces the chip performance. In particular, power bumps and TSVs are placed to minimize IR-drop in a 3D power delivery network. In this paper, we propose a design methodology for 3D power delivery networks to minimize the number of power bumps and TSVs with optimum mesh structure and distribute voltage variation more uniformly by shifting the locations of power bumps and TSVs while satisfying IR-drop constraint. Simulation results show that our method can reduce the voltage variation by 29.7% on average while reducing the number of power bumps and TSVs by 76.2% and 15.4%, respectively.

  • Double-diffused metal oxide power semiconductor field effect transistors are used extensively in recent years in various circuit applications. The temperature variation of the drain current at a fixed bias shows both positive and negative resistance characteristics depending on the gate threshold voltage and gate-to source bias votage. In this paper, the decision method of the gate crossover voltage by the temperature variation and a new method to determine the gate threshold voltage graphecally are presented.

  • This paper presents a new power control method for compensating the short term fading of the reverse link channel in the CDMA mobile telephone system. The fixed step closed loop power control which is now adopted in IS-95, is very simple in structure. However, the step size in the closed loop power control is too big for the channel with a small variation or too big for the channel with a small variation or too small for the channel with a large variation. The method presented in this paper has a simple structure and shows a new model employing the combination of the fixed step size method and variable step size method which results in compensatingthe disadvantages mentioned above. This paper also evaluates the performance inthe fundamental channel model.

  • Recently, by increasing of devices which are sensitive to power quality, the deterioration of power quality has been accelerated. For this reason, the social and economic losses are increased. So not only correct measurement and evaluation, but also countermeasure for improvement of power quality is surely necessary for both electric power supplier and consumer. In this paper, the discrimination algorithm for events and variation occurred in distribution systems using S-transform is proposed. Firstly, we review for events and variations that occur in distribution system. Next, we simulate events and variations on various conditions using ElectroMagnetic Transient Program(EMTP). For the simulation, the IEEE 13 Node Test Feeder and KEPCO's distribution system is modeled. Finally, for the analysis, a modified wavelet transform known as S-transform is adopted to find out the characteristics of each events and variations.

  • Induction motor is most widely used as the driving power in the industrial site. Induction motor current is composed of two parts, magnetizing current and load current. Load current uses energy what is doing the work. Load current varies with load variance but magnetizing current is constant, regardless of load variation. Magnetizing current needs for establishing the rotating magnetic field of induction motor and lags behind the voltage. Generally capacitor is used for power-factor compensation of inductive load. Self-excitation occurs when the capacitive reactive current from the capacitor is greater than the magnetizing current of the induction motor. When this occurs, excessive voltages can result on the terminals of the motor. This excessive voltage can cause insulation degradation and ultimately result in motor insulation failure. In this paper, we analyzed that how the magnetizing current and condenser current is operating at the allowable limit by the load variation. Condenser current is below allowable limit of magnetizing current but magnetizing current is above allowable limit at the lower load operation condition.

  • Int this paper, we studied the analysis on long-term durability and output power characteristics of PV modules by variation on local thermal property. Using 5 modules(80W), we measured the maximum output power change during the test period. And the optical transmittance of glass was compared with PV module's maximum power fluctuation. The external environment change effected contamination on the entire or local surface of module. This caused the local temperature variation of each solar cell on PV module. The specific analysis is shown in the following paper.

  • Blind restoration for motion-blurred images is always the research hotspot, and the key for the blind restoration is the accurate blur kernel (BK) estimation. Therefore, to achieve high-quality blind image restoration, this thesis presents a novel windowed-total-variation method. The proposed method is based on the spatial scale of edges but not amplitude, and the proposed method thus can extract useful image edges for accurate BK estimation, and then recover high-quality clear images. A large number of experiments prove the superiority.
