  • Knowing more about the Local Power Density (LPD) at the hottest part of a nuclear reactor core can provide more important information than knowledge of the LPD at any other position. The LPD at the hottest part needs to be estimated accurately in order to prevent the fuel rod from melting in a nuclear reactor. Support Vector Machines (SVMs) have successfully been applied in classification and regression problems. Therefore, in this paper, the power peaking factor, which is defined as the highest LPD to the average power density in a reactor core, was estimated by SVMs which use numerous measured signals of the reactor coolant system. The SVM models were developed by using a training data set and validated by an independent test data set. The SVM models' uncertainty was analyzed by using 100 sampled training data sets and verification data sets. The prediction intervals were very small, which means that the predicted values were very accurate. The predicted values were then applied to the first fuel cycle of the Yonggwang Nuclear Power Plant Unit 3. The root mean squared error was approximately 0.15%, which is accurate enough for use in LPD monitoring and for core protection that uses LPD estimation.

  • In magnetically coupled resonant (MCR) wireless power transfer (WPT) systems, the introduction of additional intermediate coils is an effective means of improving transmission characteristics, including output power and transmission efficiency, when the transmission distance is increased. However, the position of intermediate coils in practice influences system performance significantly. In this research, a three-coil MCR WPT system is adopted as an exemplification for determining how the spatial position of coils affects transmission characteristics. With use of the fundamental harmonic analysis method, an equivalent circuit model of the system is built to reveal the relationship between the output power, the transmission efficiency, and the spatial scales, including the axial, lateral, and angular misalignments of the intermediate and receiving coils. Three cases of transmission characteristics versus different spatial scales are evaluated. Results indicate that the system can achieve relatively stable transmission characteristics with deliberate adjustments in the position of the intermediate and receiving coils. A prototype of the three-coil MCR WPT system is built and analyzed, and the experimental results are consistent with those of the theoretical analysis.

  • This study is about comparing coal thermal plant to LNG combined power plant in respect of environmental and economic cost analysis. In addition sensitive analysis of power cost and discount rate is conducted to compare the result of change in endogenous and exogenous variable. For environmental assessment, when they generate 10,669GWh yearly, coal thermal power plant emits sulfur oxides 959ton, nitrogen oxide 690ton, particulate matter 168ton and LNG combined power plant emits only nitrogen oxide 886ton respectively every year. Regarding economic cost analysis on both power plants during persisting period 30 years, coal thermal power plant is more cost effective 4,751 billion won than LNG combined taking in account the initial, operational, energy and environmental cost at 10,669GWh yearly in spite of only LNG combined power plant's energy cost higher than coal thermal. In case of sensitive analysis of power cost and discount rate, as 1% rise or drop in power cost, the total cost of coal thermal power plant increases or decreases 81 billion won and LNG combined 157 billion won up or down respectively. When discount rate 1% higher, the cost of coal thermal and LNG combined power plant decrease 498 billion won and 539 billion won for each. When discount rate 1% lower, the cost of both power plant increase 539 billion won and 837 billion won. With comparing each result of change in power cost and discount rate, as discount rate is weigher than power cost, which means most influential variable of power plan is discount rate one of exogenous variables not endogenous.

  • So far, we have pursued only convenient and efficient growth of economy, as a result, environment surrounding us has been destroyed and the rights of our existence gotten to be even threatened. We need to ensure our lives and at the same time, need a power with which agriculture undertakes global circulation structure and a power that is able to preserve our environment we live per so. Therefore, in the near future, the final objectives of agriculture structure for 21st century would be to increase productivity of highly developed agricultural products in accordance with the ecosystem and a recycling agriculture. What is a recycling agriculture\ulcorner In the narrow sense, it means provisions-producing- system related to interactive recycle of material among forestry, livestock husbandry and seeding agriculture. In the broad sense, it means to produce credible agricultural product by keeping balanced resources via conversion to complete degradable material of organic wastes produce within rural village. Based on this concept, finally, our goal is to construct the resources recycling community. Environment friendly agriculture ⇒ organic agriculture ⇒ recycling (circulation) agriculture ⇒ construction of community with resources recycling. Therefore, in order to construct recycling agriculture, most of all, it is considered that the following, it should be established reasonable standard amounts for fertilizer, manure and liquid fertilizer based on results of soil test by each region, nature-recycling form of crops production and livestock production systems by maximizing utilization of different recycling byproducts occurring in the crop producing process by each region.

  • In this paper, we propose a fault detection model based on multi-layer neural network using data mining technique for faults due to boiler tube leakage in a thermal power plant. Major measurement data related to faults are analyzed using statistical methods. Based on the analysis results, the number of input data of the proposed fault detection model is simplified. Then, each input data is clustering with normal data and fault data by applying K-Means algorithm, which is one of the data mining techniques. fault data were trained by the neural network and tested fault detection for boiler tube leakage fault.

  • PD phenomena can be regarded as a deterministic dynamical process where PD should be occurred if the local electric field be reached to be sufficiently high. And thus, its mathematical model can be described by either difference equations or differential equations using several state variables obtained from the time sequential measured data of PD signals. These variables can provide rich and complex behavior of detectable time series, for which Chaos theory can be employed. In this respect, a new PD pattern recognition method is proposed and named as 'Chaotic Analysis of Partial Discharges (CAPD)' for this work. For this purpose, six types of specimen are designed and made as the models of the possible defects that may cause sudden failures of the underground power transmission cables under service, and partial discharge signals, generated from those samples, are detected and then analyzed by means of CAPD. Throughout the work, qualitative and quantitative properties related to the PD signals from different defects are analyzed by use of attractor in phase space, information dimensions ($D_0$ and D2), Lyapunov exponents and K-S entropy as well. Based on these results, it could be pointed out that the nature of defect seems to be identified more distinctively when the CAPD is combined with traditional statistical method such as PRPDA. Furthermore, the relationship between PD magnitude and the occurrence timing is investigated with a view to simulating PD phenomena.

  • This study deals with the passive control of the dynamic characteristics of a theoretical model which is a string with fixed ends and loaded by two point masses - a main mass (Mo) and a secondary mass (Ms). It has been controlled passively by means of a relocation of a secondary mass. A main mass placed on the string is considered as a vibrating receiver which be forced to vibrate by a vibrating source being positioned on the string. By analyzing the motion of a string, the equation of motion for a string was derived by using a method of variation of parameters. To define the optimal conditions for the vibration reduction, the governing equation, which denotes the dynamic response of a string was derived in the closed form and then evaluated numerically. The possibility of reduction of an amplitude and a power being transmitted to a main mass were found to depend on the location and the magnitude of a secondary mass as well as the range of a forcing frequency.

  • In this paper, the input current and output voltage ripple of the soft switching interleaved boost converter was analyzed. Ripples of input current and output voltage with an interleaved method is analysed and as a result, the facts that it has lower ripple current than conventional interleaved method is verified. it means that a capacity of a main inductor can be reduced. Besides, a low capacitance of capacitor which means high lifetime and confidence can be used because of reducing ripples of output voltage. In order to verify the validity of the proposed converter used 10uF film capacitor, experiment was performed, and the efficiency of the proposed converter was measured with variable load and duty conditions.

  • In this paper, we proposed low power algorithm for a task. The task means the inside of a necessary processor and external resources to work accomplishment of a system. Each task analyzes a life time and a number of called for implement a low power circuit. First of all, reduce power consumption of a task have maximum power consumption for low power circuit implementation. Therefore, first selecting a task had maximum power consumption. The task had a maximum power consumption ranking consider a life time and a number of called for each task. While a life time of task is long, top priority ranking to decrease power consumption to the task that the number of call generates the power consumption how a disguise is large in case of a lot of task becomes. Frequency decision to have minimum power consumption, and decrease power consumption all the circuit by a change of frequency of the task which the minimum task that a wasting past record is the maximum becomes. Also, keep continuously minimum power consumption, with every effort task until last life time in opening life time, and decrease gets total power consumption. Experiments results show reduction in the power consumption by 5.43% comparing with that [7] algorithm.

  • In 2013, a total capacity of 591.3 MW of installed wind power generation was achieved in Korea, with a total of 1,139 MWh of wind energy generated that year. More wind power plants will be installed in the coming years, and it is important to develop methods to reduce the output variability of these resources so as to provide stable power to the power grid of Korea. In this regard, this paper proposes the use of energy storage system (ESS) as a means to stabilize the output variability of wind power plants. Presented in this paper is a method that uses Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) to determine the ESS capacity needed to provide a stable power output for ancillary services such as frequency regulation, economic dispatch, and emergency reserves. In the first step of the proposed method, four regions (namely, Samdal, Yeongdeok, Yeongyang, and Gangwon) in Korea that had the most wind power generation capacity were selected for analysis. In the second step, the individual and aggregated wind power outputs of the selected regions in 2013 were obtained This information was then used in the third step, where DFT analysis of the power outputs was used to drive the magnitudes of the output variation. And finally, the ESS capacity requirements needed to provide different ancillary services were determined based on the magnitudes of the output variation.
