  • A technique for improving estimation accuracy is introduced in order to locate the impact position of artillery shell during the weapon scoring test. Study on localization of impacts using acoustic measurement has been conducted and the usability of sensor array is verified with experiments. When the blast occurs above the ground in the firing range, the acoustic sensor above the ground can measure the directly propagated sound with the ground-reflected one. In this study, a method for reducing estimation error by using the reflection signal measurements based on the time difference of arrival method. Considering the reflection sound works as same as placing a virtual sensor symmetrically through the ground. This idea enables a virtual three-dimensional array configuration with a two-dimensional plane array above the ground as such. The time difference between the direct and the reflected propagations can be estimated using cepstrum analysis. Performance test has been made in the simulation experiment in the football size area.

  • An accurate positioning estimation in the wireless sensor networks (WSN) is very important in which each sensor node is aware of neighbor conditions. The multi-hop positioning estimation technique is considered as one of the suitable techniques for the WSN with many low power devices. However geographical holes, where there is no sensor node, may severely decrease the positioning accuracy so that the positioning error can be beyond the tolerable range. Therefore in this paper, we analyze error factors of DV-hop and hole effect to obtain node's accurate position. The proposed methods include boundary node detection, distance level adjustment, and unreliable anchor elimination. The simulation results show that the proposed method can achieve higher positioning accuracy using the hole detection and enhanced distance calculation methods compared with the conventional DV-hop.

  • Probability plotting position is generally used for the graphical analysis of the annual maximum quantile and the estimation of exceedance probability to display the fitness between sample and an appropriate probability distribution. In addition, it is used to apply a specific goodness of fit test. Plotting position formula to define the probability plotting position has been studied in many researches. Especially, the GEV distribution which is an important probability distribution to analyze the frequency of hydrologic data was popular. In this study, the theoretical reduced variates are derived using the mean value of order statistics to derived an appropriate plotting position formula for the GEV distribution. In addition, various forms of plotting position formula considering various sample sizes and coefficients of skewness related with shape parameters are applied. The parameters of plotting position formulas are estimated using the genetic algorithm. The accuracy of derived plotting position formula is estimated by the errors between the theoretical reduced variates and those by various plotting position formulas including the derived ones in this study. As a result, the errors by derived plotting position formula is the smallest at the range of shape parameter with -0.25~0.10.

  • In this paper, we propose the method of designing an extended kalman filter in order to accurately measure the position of the spatial-phase system using sensor fusion. We use the quaternion as a state variable in expressing the attitude of an object. Then, the attitude of rigid body can be calculated from the accelerometer and magnetometer by applying the Gauss-Newton method. We estimate the changes of state by using the measurements obtained from the gyroscope, the quaternion, and the vision informations by ARVR_SDK. To increase the accuracy of estimation, we designed and implemented the extended kalman filter, which showed excellent ability to adjust and compensate the sensor error. As a result, we could experimentally demonstrate that the reliability of the attitude estimation value can be significantly increased.

  • In this study, a remote controller was designed using localization technique. The designed remote controller system consists of infrared transmit/receive module for time synchronization, ultrasonic transmit/receive module for measuring the TOA value, and micro-controller for processing the measured data value. For the position estimation method of remote controller, the Savarese method was used which does not have a problem of diverging solution depending on initial value. The noise included in the measured value was removed by separating the signal and noise with the use of EMD method which is the non-stationary signal analysis technique. The designed system was tested by constructing a simulation environment, and the improvement of accuracy and precision for the application of EMD method was examined.

  • MR(Model Reduction) is presented in order to estimate the frequency of multiple sinusoids from the finite noisy data with the white or colored noises. MR, using the reduced rank models, is designed, appling the approximation of linear system to LP(Linear Prediction). The MR method is analyzed. Monte-carlo simulations are conducted for MR and Lp. The results are compared with in terms of mean, root-mean square and relative bias. MR eliminates effectevely the extremeous and exceptional poles appearing in LP and improves the accuracy of LP. Especially, MR gives promising results in short noisy measurements, low SNR's and colored noises. Power spectral density and angular frequency position are showed by figures, for examples. Finally, the new method is utilized to the communication and biomedical systems estimating the characteristics of the signal and the system identification modelling the dynamic systems from experimental data.

  • In this paper, we present practical issues in a Mobile Haptic Interface (MHI) and their improvements. The improvements can be categorized in three parts: 1) high-accuracy estimation of the world position of the haptic interface point, 2) motion planning algorithm to move the mobile base while avoiding collisions with the user and other objects, and 3) closed-loop force control to compensate the undesired effect of mobile base dynamics on the final rendering force perceived by the user.

  • This paper presents an accurate indoor localization method of a mobile robot using ultrasonic sensors. The coordinates of mobile robot are calculated by using trilateration which is using the distance between the transmitter and receiver. At this time, the distances can't be accurately calculated by containing noise. We propose Extended Kalman Filter(EKF) to improve estimation accuracy. The performance of proposed EKF is evaluated by simulation program. As a result, we confirm that the errors in estimate of mobile robot's position are eliminated from measured distance.

  • We propose an eye gaze tracking system under natural head movements. The system consists of one CCD camera and two front-surface mirrors. The mirrors rotate to follow head movements in order to keep the eye within the view of the camera. However, the mirror controller cannot guarantee the fast head movements, because the frame rate is generally 30Hz. To overcome this problem, we applied Kalman predictor to estimate next eye position from the current eye image. In the results, our system allows the subjects head to move 50cm horizontally and 40cm vertically, with the speed about 10cm/sec and 6cm/sec, respectively. And spatial gaze resolutions are about 4.5 degree and 4.5 degree, respectively, and the gaze estimation accuracy is 92% under natural head movements.

  • To neutralize fast Anti-Tank Guided Missiles(ATGMs) or Anti-Tank Rockets(ATRs) projected at short ranges, the trajectories and times that the threats arrive at hard-kill systems should be predicted precisely. The trajectories of ATGMs or ATRs are almost stationary but the velocity and acceleration are very changeable in the terminal stage, so that it is needed to predict the characteristics of ATGMs and ATRs for filtering. In this paper the Fuzzy Rule based Adaptive Kalman Filter(FRAKF) is proposed to estimate the position, velocity and acceleration of the threats with accuracy and the performance of it is compared with the existing tracking filter considering the maneuvering characteristics of threats.
