한국 농촌사회의 변천: 농촌 인구와 가족의 변화를 중심으로 (Transition of the Korean Rural Society: On the Basis of Population and Family Changes)

  • 농촌사회의 변화를 사회 구성원인 인구와 원초제도인 가족의 변화를 중심으로 접근하였다. 연구지역은 청주시로 출퇴근이 가능한 충북 청원군 옥산면의 2개리 (근교농촌)와 도시와 접하지 않은 충북 보은군의 2개리(일반농촌)를 선정하였다. 농촌사회의 변화를 측정하기 위하여 연구지역에서 1995-1996년의 1차 조사와 1999-2000년의 2차조사를 실시하였다. 조사원에 의한 면접전수조사이므로 연도 및 지역별 조사결과를 직접 비교하였다. 일반농촌의 경우 성.연령별 인구구조는 전형적인 역삼각형을 그리고 있으며, 이 현상은 지속적인 젊은 연령층의 전출로 더욱 심화되고 있다. 젊은 연령층의 자녀세대가 도시로 이주하고, 새로운 가족형성이 이루어지지 않고, 노 부모세대만 잔류하다가 노령으로 사망하게 되면 기존 가족의 해체와 더불어 농촌의 지역사회 자체의 존속이 어려워 진다. 한편 근교농촌의 경우에도 노령화 현상이 나타나지만 청장년층에서 전출과 전입이 교차하고 있다. 그러므로, 주로 농업에 종사하는 원주민 세대의 노령화가 진행되면서 농촌의 전통적 특성이 감소하는 대신 비농업에 종사하는 젊은 연령층의 전입으로 중간 연령층을 형성하게 되므로 앞으로 도시 특성이 강한 새로운 지역사회로 변모할 것이다.

한국인구학 30년: 도전과 과제 (Korean Demography 30 Years: Challenges and Prospects)

  • <한국인구학회>를 중심으로 성장한 한국의 인구학은 출산을 비롯하여 사망과 인구이동 그리고 인구센서스 등 인구학의 다양한 분야에서 한국사회의 현실을 기술하고 고찰하며 지난 30여년간 독립적인 학문분야로 성장하여왔다. 특히 1960-70년대 높았던 출산율이 경제적인 성장의 걸림돌이라는 사회적인 인식이 확산되면서 인구학을 전공한 학자는 물론 인접분야의 많은 학자들이 인구학적 연구를 수행하는 등 한국사회에서 인구학은 크게 발전하였다. 하지만 1990년대 이후 출산율이 안정되면서 출산을 중심으로 성장해 온 인구학에 대한 사회적 관심이 점차 축소되어 한국의 인구학은 이전 시기의 명성이 무색할 정도로 학문적 토양을 잃어왔다. 한편 최근 초저출산율이 다시 사회적인 관심을 끌기 시작하면서 인구학과 인구학자에 대한 사회적인 필요성이 점차 커지고 있는데, 안타깝게도 한국 인구학은 이러한 사회적 필요성과 관심을 충족시키기에 그 토양이 충분한 영양을 공급하고 있지 못한 실정이다. 본 연구는 2006년 창립 30주년을 맞이한 <한국인구학회>를 축하함과 동시에 학문적 토양의 상실이라는 위기를 자성하고 이를 극복하여 한국사회에서 인구학이 재도약하고 재부흥하기 위한 방법을 모색하고자 수행되었다. 현재 처해있는 인구학의 위기를 파악하기 위해 한국과 외국의 인구학 관련 토양을 비교 분석하였으며, 이를 토대로 인구학 활성화를 위한 방안을 제시하였다.

우리나라 단독가구의 실태에 관한 소고 (A Study on One Person Households in Korea)

  • Korea has successfully achieved a lowered fertility level owing to the strong population control policy and effective family planning program. Along with fertility decline and decreased number of children in family, average number of household members has decreased and nontraditional households such as one person household and households composed of unrelated individuals have prolifirated, even though the absolute number of them are found minimal in Korea. However in recent years several data and survey results suggest that one person households are gradually in the increasing trend. The study aimed at investigating the real state of one person households in Korea and next analyzing the proportional distribution of one person households by a few socioeconomic characteristics, thus providing basic for eatablishing far-singhted population and social welfare policy in the future. Korea has experienced high growth rate of economy through government-led development plans starting from the 1960s. During the past three decades, Korea has shifted from the agricultural state to the industrialized one. In compliance with the economic growth, urbanization and industrialization have brought about rural-to-urban migration and a great bulk of young population migrated to urban areas, who are seeking for educational and job opportunities. Korean society has also been under drastic change in every aspect of life involving norms, tradition, and attitude, etc. Therefore, in spite of the prejudice on 'living alone' still remaining, young people gradually leave parents and home, and further form nontraditional households in urban areas. Current increase in the number of one person households is partly attributable to the increase in high female educational attainment and female participation in economic activities. As the industrial structure in Korea changes from primary into secondary and tertiary industries, job opportunities for service/sales and manufacturing are opened to young female labor force in the process of industrialization. Contrary to the formation of one person households by young people, the aged single households are composed when children in family leave one by one because of marriage, education, employment. In particular, a higher proportion of aged female single households occur in rural areas due to the mortality difference by sex. Based on the data released form the 1990 Population and Housing Census and National Fertility and Family Health Survey in 1985 and 1991, the study tried to examine the state of one person households in Korea. According to Census data, the number of one person households increased to 1, 021, 000 in 1990, comprising 9.0 percent of total households. And the survey reveal that among total 11, 540 households, 8.0 percent, 923 households, are composed of one person households. Generally, the proportion of female single households is greater than that of male ones, and a big proportion of one person households is concentrated in the 25-34 age bracket in urban areas and 65 years and more in rural areas. It is shown than one person householders in urban areas have higher educational attainment with 59.2 percent high schooling and over in 1991, Job seeking proved to be the main reason for leaving home and forming one person households. The number of young female single households with higher education and economic self-reliance are found nil and the study did not allow to analyze the causal realtionship between female education and employment and one person household formation. However more research and deep analysis on the causal facors on one person household formation using statistical method are believed to be necessary.

성남시 갈마치 지역의 동물이동통로 복원을 위한 생태특성 분석 및 복원목표종의 선정 (Analysis of Ecological Characteristics and Selection of Target Species for Restoration of Wildlife Corridor at Galmachi of Sungnam City)

  • This study was carried out to analyze ecological characteristics and select target species for effective restoration plans of wildlife corridors at Galmachi of Sungnam City. The actual vegetation in study area was physiognomically mixed with deciduous broad leaved forests dominated by oaks and artificially planted species. And it is a secondary forest formatted by sprout originated stand and being on early succession stage as a young stand. So study site was regarded as not suitable for the habitats for wildlife. The number of mammal species at study site was total 22 species, but most of these species were found as not so many in individual numbers. The individual number of hare was approximately 4 to 8, while the raccoon dog and water deer with 2 to 3 and 1 to 2, respectively. As such, it was estimated as a low population density due to discontinuation of ecosystem and the man-made impacts. In this study, raccoon dog and water deer were selected as the target species because of their migration patterns and ecological value in local ecosystem. It was suggested to establish a wildlife corridors of an over-bridge type at the peak area of Galmachi, known to be the mostly-used migratory route for 2 target species.

Coevolution between Human's Anticancer Activities and Functional Foods from Crop Origin Center in the World

  • Cancer is the leading cause of death around the world. Anticancer activities from many functional food sources have been reported in years, but correlation between cancer prevalence and types of food with anticancer activities from crop origin center in the world as well as food source with human migration are unclear. Hunger from food shortage is the cause of early human evolution from Africa to Asia and later into Eurasia. The richest functional foods are found in crop origin centers, housing about 70% in the world populations. Crop origin centers have lower cancer incidence and mortality in the world, especially Central Asia, Middle East, Southwest China, India and Ethiopia. Asia and Africa with the richest anticancer crops is not only the most important evolution base of humans and origin center of anticancer functional crop, but also is the lowest mortality and incidence of cancers in the world. Cancer prevention of early human migrations was associated with functional foods from crop origin centers, especially Asia with four centers and one subcenter of crop origin, accounting for 58% of the world population. These results reveal that coevolution between human's anticancer activities associated with functional foods for crop origin centers, especially in Asia and Africa.

Differentiation of Human Adult Adipose Derived Stem Cell in vitro and Immunohistochemical Study of Adipose Derived Stem Cell after Intracerebral Transplantation in Rats

  • Objective : Adipose tissue is derived from the embryonic mesoderm and contains a heterogenous stromal cell population. Authors have tried to verify the characteristics of stem cell of adipose derived stromal cells (ADSCs) and to investigate immunohistochemical findings after transplantation of ADSC into rat brain to evaluate survival, migration and differentiation of transplanted stromal cells. Methods : First ADSCs were isolated from human adipose tissue and induced adipose, osseous and neuronal differentiation under appropriate culture condition in vitro and examined phenotypes profile of human ADSCs in undifferentiated states using flow cytometry and immunohistochemical study. Human ADSCs were transplanted into the healthy rat brain to investigate survival, migration and differentiation after 4 weeks. Results : From human adipose tissue, adipose stem cells were harvested and subcultured for several times. The cultured ADSCs were differentiated into adipocytes, osteoctye and neuron-like cell under conditioned media. Flow cytometric analysis of undifferentiated ADSCs revealed that ADSCs were positive for CD29, CD44 and negative for CD34, CD45, CD117 and HLA-DR. Transplanted human ADSCs were found mainly in cortex adjacent to injection site and migrated from injection site at a distance of at least 1 mm along the cortex and corpus callosum. A few transplanted cells have differentiated into neuron and astrocyte. Conclusion : ADSCs were differentiated into multilineage cell lines through transdifferentiation. ADSCs were survived and migrated in xenograft without immunosuppression. Based on this data, ADSCs may be potential source of stem cells for many human disease including neurologic disorder.

MULTIFAN-CL 모델을 이용한 남방참다랑어 Thunnus maccoyii의 자원 평가 (Stock Assessment of the Southern Bluefin Tuna Thunnus maccoyii Using the MULTIFAN-CL Model)

  • We assessed the stock of the southern bluefin tuna (SBT, Thunnus maccoyii) by applying the MULTIFAN-CL model. The model is spatially disaggregated, with the population and fisheries stratified into a number of regions within the overall stock range. Catch, effort, length-frequency, and tagging data from 1965 to 2003 were stratified by three regions and four quarters (Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, Jul-Sept and Oct-Dec). These data were used to estimate the instantaneous fishing mortality (F), biomass, spawning biomass, recruitment, and so on. The Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT) used only Japanese data and did not consider migration for the SBT stock assessment. By contrast, we used Japanese, Australian, New Zealand, Taiwanese, and Korean data, and considered migration. As a result, the estimated annual average F of all age classes was 0.073/yr and the F of age class 6-10 was the highest. The results also showed that the biomass and recruitment of SBT had declined significantly after 1965. Compared with the CCSBT results, the estimated spawning biomass in this study was lower and more uncertain. However, we will conduct a sensitivity analysis to get more accurate biological parameters and results. In addition, we need to use the bootstrap resampling method to quantify the uncertainty.

Extensive Lymph Node Dissection Improves Survival among American Patients with Gastric Adenocarcinoma Treated Surgically: Analysis of the National Cancer Database

  • Introduction: The extent of lymphadenectomy in the surgical treatment of gastric cancer is a topic of controversy among surgeons. This study was conducted to analyze the American National Cancer Database (NCDB) and conclude the optimal extent of lymphadenectomy for gastric adenocarcinoma. Methods: The NCDB for gastric cancer was utilized. Patients who received at least a partial gastrectomy were included. Patients with metastatic disease, unknown TNM stages, R1/R2 resection, or treated with a palliative intent were excluded. Joinpoint regression was used to identify the extent of lymphadenectomy that reflects the optimal survival. Cox regression analysis and Bayesian information criterion were used to identify significant survival predictors. Kaplan-Meier was applied to study overall survival and stage migration. Results: 40,281 patients of 168,377 met the inclusion criteria. Joinpoint analysis showed that dissection of 29 nodes provides the optimal median survival for the overall population. Regression analysis reported the cutoff ${\geq}29$ to have a better fit in the prognostic model than that of ${\geq}15$. Dissection of ${\geq}29$ nodes in the higher stages provides a comparable overall survival to the immediately lower stage. Nonetheless, the retrieval of ${\geq}15$ nodes proved to be adequate for staging without a significant stage migration compared to ${\geq}29$ nodes. Conclusion: The extent of lymphadenectomy in gastric adenocarcinoma is a marker of improved resection which reflects in a longer overall survival. Our analysis concludes that the dissection of ${\geq}15$ nodes is adequate for staging. However, the dissection of 29 nodes might be needed to provide a significantly improved survival.

한국 대도시의 도시화 특성 : 이동, 통근자 자료 분석을 통한 도시화 단계의 실증적 검토 (Urbanization of Large Cities in Korea : Assessing Development Stages using Migration and Commuting data)

  • 최근 산업도시 성장 이후 탈산업화 시대에 전개되는 새로운 도시화에 대한 논의가 포스트모던 도시, 소비도시 등으로 다양하게 전개된다. 도시화의 단계적 접근에서는 인구 변화와 이동에 기초하여 거대도시는 도시화의 후기 단계인 재도시화를 경험하고 있으며, 이러한 도시화 단계는 시차를 두고 점진적으로 하위 규모 도시에서 나타날 것으로 추정된다. 그러나 산업 재구조화는 인구 규모만으로는 포착되지 않는 새로운 도시화 특성을 유발할 것으로, 본 연구는 한국 대도시의 도시화 특성을 이동, 통근 인구 그리고 이들의 지리적, 사회적 특성에 기초하여 검토하였다. 대도시별 도시화 경험은 다르게 나타나는데, 서울은 단계적 도시화 과정을 거치지만, 다른 대도시들은 산업도시와 탈산업도시로의 전이에서 다양한 모습을 드러낸다. 특히, 지방 대도시의 경우 산업 기반의 교외화가 이루어졌으나 중심 도시의 편리한 주거, 생활 환경으로 중심 도시에 거주하며 주변으로 역통근하는 인구가 늘고 중장년층의 경제활동 가구가 대도시로 유입되며 주거 기능이 새로운 도시의 역할로 확대되는데, 이는 한국 대도시의 새로운 도시화 특성이라 하겠다.

외국인 주택 시장과 초국가적 주택 여과 과정: 조선족 사례를 중심으로 (Foreigners' Housing Market and Transnational Housing Filtering Process: Focusing on the Case Study of Korean-Chinese)

  • 본 연구는 지속적으로 구조적 변화를 겪으며 증가하고 있는 외국인의 인구와 주택 소비의 변화가 본국과 이주국의 주택 시장 양쪽 모두에 영향을 미친다는 사실을 밝히는 것에 목적을 둔다. 서울의 조선족 주택 시장의 형성 원인과 변화는 임대료 시장에 있어서 내국인 주택 시장과는 다른 '임대료의 고정 효과'로 인하여 외국인의 유입이 지속적으로 발생하는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 순환 이주 의향이 강한 조선족 집단에 의해 분화된 주택 시장의 밀집은 더욱 심화된 형태로 변화하고 있다. 한편 한국에서 이주 경험이 있는 조선족들이 주요 주택 소비자로 부상하면서, 연길시의 부동산 붐을 일으켰다. 조선족의 주택 투자는 연변 대학을 기준으로 '서부'에 집중되어 있는데, 연길시의 주택 공급에 영향을 미치는 도시 기본 계획과 밀접한 연관 관계를 가지고 있다. 이와 같은 이주자의 초국가적 주택 소비로 인하여, 본국과 이주국의 주택 시장을 연결함으로써 두 주택 시장에서 발생하는 여과과정을 동시에 일으켜, '초국가적 주택 여과 과정(Transnational housing filtering process)'이 발생하게 되는 것으로 나타났다.
