  • Various bupivacaine-Ioaded microspheres were prepared with poly (d,l-Iactide) (PLA) by solvent extraction method. The internal solution of polymer(PLA R104) and drug in glacial acetic acid was introduced into the external phase of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP K-30) in polyethyleneglycol (PEG), and emulsified to be an oil-in-oil (o/o) emulsion. The o/o emulsion was poured to the buffer solution. (omitted)

  • The influences of three binders, hydroxypropyl cellulose(HPC), microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) and polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP), on the transmittance of compression pressure from upper punch to lower punch and the disintegration of aspirin tablets prepared by direct compression were studied. The optimum concentration of three binders for the disintegration of aspirin tablets was about 20w/w% and several physical properties of the powder and tablets were also investigated. The tablet machine was specially made for the measurement of compression pressure of the tablets.

  • Aceclofenac (AFC) as a model has poor solubility in water, resulting in lower dissolution rate and bioavailability. A solid dispersion (SD) is one of effective methods to enhance the solubility or dissolution rate of various poorly water-soluble drugs. Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) that is a nontoxic, water-soluble and generally applicable pharmaceutical excipient has been widely used as a carrier in the preparation of solid dispersions. (omitted)

  • Transparent and stretchable conductors are expected to be an essential component in future stretchable optoelectronic devices. Until now, two main methods have been commonly employed to fabricate transparent and stretchable conductors by using metal nanomaterials: creating buckling configurations and creating network configurations. In this report, a novel strategy for obtaining transparent and stretchable conductors is presented, one that employs these two main approaches simultaneously. To the best of our knowledge, this proposed configuration of a buckled long nanofiber network in this study has not yet been reported. In order to provide the transparent conductors with dual mode stretchability originating from simultaneous buckled and network configurations, a buckled Au@polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) nanofiber network (hereafter referred to BANN for convenience) was fabricated by transferring Au-metallized electrospun PVP nanofibers onto a prestrained polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate. Our BANN shows considerably lower strain sensitivity of resistance than that of straight Au@PVP nanofiber network. Durability tests conducted by performing cyclic tensile strain reveal that the relative change in resistance of BANN (prestrain = 20%) is quite small after 1000 cycles. We also demonstrate that this BANN exhibits superior performance over widely used indium tin oxide conductors with regard to high optical transmittance and low sheet resistance.

The acute and sub-acute toxicity of C60/PVP complex in vivo

  • The detailed study of acute and sub-acute toxicity of the complex polyvinylpyrrolidon (PVP 20 kDa)-wrapped fullerene $C_{60}$ after intraperitoneal (ip) administration was carried out on adult male Wistar rats. The $LD_{50}$ value of $C_{60}/PVP$ complex was found to be 7, 8 g/kg. In sub-acute study which lasted for 30 days the rats were exposed to daily administration of the complex in the doses of 350 or 700 mg/kg. All animals survived during the study and had no significant changes in clinical signs, organ weight, hematological and biochemical parameters of blood. The electrophysiological properties of myocardium and the excretory function of kidneys remained normal. Histological analysis of liver, kidney and spleen at the end of the study also did not demonstrate toxic alterations. It was thus established that intraperitoneal administration of complex $C_{60}/PVP$ has no toxic effect. These results suggest that $C_{60}/PVP$ has no acute and sub-acute toxicity and is a perspective substance for potential application in biology and medicine.

Influence of Surfactant on the Iodine Complex Formation of Some Non-ionic Polymers (비이온성 고분자의 Iodine 착물형성에 대한 계면활성제의 영향)

  • The formation of a complex between PVP or HPC and iodine was indicated by a red shift in the tri-iode band while PVA-iodine complex showed its characterized band around 500 nm in pure aqueous media. Addition of surfactant SDS resulted in a disapperance of the characteristic blue color of the PVA-iodine complex indicating that the complex is not formed in aqueous surfactant media. However in case of PVP or HPC, presence of the monomers of SDS favored the complex formation but in higher concentration, the micelles of SDS decreased the complex. Complexation was found to increase with increasing content of n-propanol in the system since n-propanol inhibits the formation of gels or microgels in the polymer solution. But in case of PVA-iodine complex, addition of n-propanol led to conversion of bigger polyiodides into smaller ones, which is indicative of increased intermolecular hydrogen bond interaction between propanol and PVA effecting a decrease in the PVA aggregate space.

Electrochemical Performance of Graphite/Silicon/Pitch Anode Composites Bonded with Graphite Surface PVP and Silica Amine Function Group (흑연 표면의 PVP와 실리카의 아민 작용기로 결합된 흑연/실리콘/피치 음극 복합소재의 전기화학적 성능)

  • In this study, the electrochemical characteristics of Graphite/Silicon/Pitch anode composites were analyzed to improve the low theoretical capacity of graphite as a lithium ion battery. The Graphite/Silica composites were synthesized by bonding silica onto polyvinylpyrrolidone coated graphite. The surface of used silica was treated with (3-Aminopropyl)triethoxysilane(APTES). Graphite/Silicon/Pitch composites were prepared by carbonization of petroleum pitch, the fabrication processes including the magnesiothermic reduction of nano silica to obtain silicon and varying the mass ratio of silica. The Graphite/Silicon/Pitch composites were analysed by XRD, SEM and XRD. Also the electrochemical performances of Graphite/Silicon/Pitch composite as the anode of lithium ion battery were investigated by constant current charge/discharge, rate performance, cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance tests in the electrolyte of $LiPF_6$ dissolved in organic solvents (EC:DMC:EMC=1:1:1 vol%). The Graphite/Silicon/Pitch anode composite (silica 28.5 in weight) has better capacity (537 mAh/g). The cycle performance has an excellent capacity retention to 30th cycle of 95% and the retention rate capability of 98% in 0.1 C/0.2 C.

Plant Regeneration from Hypocotyl-Derived Protoplasts of Brassica oleracea var. capitata (양배추 배축 원형질체로부터 식물체 재분화)

  • Protoplasts were isolated from hypocotyl tissues of 5-day-old Brassica oleracea var capitata Green Challenger seedlings. Several media were used for protoplast culture and shoot regeneration. The shoot-regeneration rapacity of protoplast derived callus depended on the initial culture medium. Protoplasts were cultured in liquid medium (B5 medium supplemented with CaCl2, 2H2O 600mg/L, g1ucose 20g/L, D-mannito1 70g/L, NAA lmg/L, BA lmg/L, 2.4-D 0.25 mg/L)at 27$^{\circ}C$ under the dark After 5 to 10 days, cultlues were diluted with medium with a reduced osmotic stabilizer and then transferred to illuminated conditions. The culture medium was changed with the fresh medium at 7- to 10-day-intervals until the formation of microcallus. Hypocotyl protoplast-derived callus proliferated when transferred to MS medium supplemented with NAA lmg/L, BA 1mg/L and GA$_3$ 0.02mg/L. Upon transfer to MS basal medium without growth regulators, roots were produced. In an attempt to increase the regeneration frequency, 10g/L polyvinylpyrrolidone was added to the regeneration medium, but the shoot regeneration was mot improved. The regenerated whole plants were acclimated in a sterized soilless mixture(vermiculite 2;perlite 2;peat moss1) in a culture room.

Effects of Mineral Media, Carbon Sources and Phytohormones on Micropropagation of Alnus hirsuta (물오리나무(Alnus hirsuta)의 기내증식에 미치는 기본배지, 탄소원 및 식물호르몬의 영향)

  • Shoot tip explants from germinated seeds of Alnus hirsuta were cultured on NT (Nagata and Takebe, 1971) mineral salts medium supplemented with 6% glucose, MS (Murashige and Skoog, 1962) vitamin mixture, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and $0-50\;\mu\textrm{M}$ 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP). Five $\mu\textrm{M}$ BAP was found to give the highest shoot multiplication rate. Accordingly about 200 shoots were obtained for further experiments by multiplying shoots on this medium for 4-5 months. Regardless of carbon sources, NT mineral medium produced 3-12 times of shoots than MS mineral medium did. On NT mineral medium, 3% sucrose, 3% glucose and 6% glucose yielded no significant differences. It was observed that media consisting of 1/4-1/2 strength NT mineral salts, 3% sucrose and $1-8\;\mu\textrm{M}$ IBA produced about 100% rooting rate. Almost 100% of the resulting plantlets survived after transfer to the soil by decreasing humidity stepwise.epwise.

Preparation and Characterization of α-alumina Hollow Fiber Membrane (알루미나 중공사막 제조 및 특성 분석)

  • The alumina hollow fiber membranes were prepared by spinning and sintering a polymer solution containing suspended alumina powders. For determine pore structure of hollow fiber membranes formed by different solvent-nonsolvent interaction rate, dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO), dimethylacetamide (DMAc), triethylphosphite (TEP) were prepared in dope solution by solvent, polyethersulfone (PESf) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) were used as a polymer binder and additive. The pore structure of hollow fiber membranes was characterized using scanning electron microscope (SEM). The alumina hollow fiber membranes prepared by DMSO, DMAc were had the asymmetric structure mixed sponge-like and finger-like morphology, while TEP solvent were had single sponge-like structure. The prepared hollow fiber membranes were analyzed gas permeation and mechanical strength experiment also. The hollow fiber membrane having single sponge-like structure was had high gas permeation performance. On the contrary to this, more finger-like morphology was less gas permeation performance.
