We have developed the yttrium oxide (YNP) or ytterbium oxide (YbNP) nanoparticle/polymer matrices for the size-dependent separation of DNA ranging from 100 bp to 9,000 bp. High separation efficiency (> $10^6$ plates/m) and the baseline resolution for various DNA standards (100 bp, 500 bp, and 1 kbp DNA ladder) were obtained in 10 min with these matrices. The effects of concentrations of both polyethylene oxide (PEO) and nanoparticles were investigated and the highest performance was obtained at 0.02% PEO with 0.02% YNP or YbNP. Similar sieving power for both YNP and YbNP matrices was observed probably due to the similar sizes of nanoparticles, resulting in the formation of comparable sieving networks for DNA separation. For the reduction of electrosmotic flow, either dynamic or permanent coating of the capillary inner wall was compared and it turned out that PEO was superior to polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) or polyacrylamide (PAA) for better separation efficiency.

Currently, the domestic construction industry is trying to expand the range of building materials due to overload of growth. In particular, several studies are being conducted to make up for the weakness of building materials by solving problems such as reduction of tensile strength and brittle behavior of concrete. Among them, efforts to maximize the use of carbon nanotubes (CNT) that has excellent mechanical and electrical conductivity properties are continuing. However, CNT is hydrophobic and have a strong Van der Waals force between particles, making it difficult to obtain an effective dispersion state. Therefore, in this study, various kinds of surfactants like DOC (Sodium Deoxycholate), PVP (Polyvinylpyrrolidone), and PCE (Polycarboxylate ester) were added to improve the dispersibility of CNT, and analyzed the changes in the properties of the cement paste mixed with them.
In this study, a study was carried out for the separation of metal ions in lignin extract discharged from the pulp process. alumina powders were mixed with DMAc (N, N-dimethylacetamide) solvent and PESf (Polyethersulfone) polymer, PVP (polyvinylpyrrolidone) dispersant was added and slip casting method was used to prepare the membrane. The membrane was measured for pore size through a CFP (Capillary Flow Porometer) device and the surface and cross-section of the membrane were observed through a FE-SEM (Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope). The flux was calculated by measuring the filtered weight per hour using a separation experiment device. Pore size measurements were performed under increasing pressure from 0 psi to 30 psi. The pore size of the membrane was $0.4{\mu}m$ and the flux decreased from the initial flux value of $6.36kg{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}h^{-1}$ to $1.98kg{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}h^{-1}$ due to the fouling of the membrane. After the permeation experiment, membrane contaminants were removed by simple washing. Separation experiments showed that Na contained in the initial lignin extract was reduced by 69%, Fe was removed by 87%, K by 95%, Ca by 93% and Mg by 96%.

If drugs are made from nanoparticles, their formulations can be more effective than the conventional ones. Especially, water insoluble drugs having low absorption rates into our body could show improvement in their adsorption and bioavailability by decreasing their particle sizes to nanometers. In this study, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and various sugars were employed as stabilizers for the nanoparticles of a water insoluble drug, Itraconazole. Nanoparticles were successfully produced by the wet slurry process for five days. Then, spray drying converted the aqueous dispersions into dry powders, and the redispersibility of dried nanoparticles into water was investigated. The effects of temperature, pressure, and flow rate were studied to understand the importance of processing variables on redispersibility. It was found in particle size analysis that nanoparticles containing sugars have better redispersibility than those without sugars. Additionally, the mainly spherical morphology of dried nanoparticles was identified by SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) and AFM (Atomic Force Microscopy).
In this study, the electrochemical performance of Graphite/Silicon/Pitch composites as anode material was investigated to improve the low theoretical capacity of artificial graphite. Spherical artificial graphite surface was coated with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) amphiphiles material to synthesize Graphite/Silica material by silica islands growth. The Graphite/Silicon/Pitch composites were prepared by petroleum pitch coating and magnesiothermic reduction. The Graphite/Silicon/Pitch composite electrodes manufactured using poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF), carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and polyacrylic acid (PAA) binders. The coin type half cell was assembled using various electrolytes and additives. The Graphite/Silicon/Pitch composites were analysed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA). The electrochemical characteristics of Graphite/Silicon/Pitch composite were investigated by constant current charge/discharge, rate performance, cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The Graphite/Silicon/Pitch composites showed high cycle stability at a graphite/silica/pitch ratio (1:4:8 wt%). When the electrode is prepared using PAA binder, the high capacity and stability is obtained. The coin type half cell assembled using EC: DMC: EMC electrolyte showed high initial capacity (719 mAh/g) and excellent cycle stability. The rate performance has an capacity retention (77%) at 2 C/0.1 C and an capacity recovery (88%) at 0.1 C / 0.1 C when the vinylene carbonate (VC) was added.
Flat sheet microfiltration membranes were prepared with polysulfone (PSF), polyethersulfone (PES), and polyphenylsulfone (PPS) by an immersion precipitation phase inversion method. In this method, dimethyl formamide (DMF) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) were used as a solvent and a wetting polymer additive, respectively. 2-butoxyethanol (BE) was used as a nonsolvent additive catalyst to form pore. The morphology of membranes was investigated by scanning electron microscopy and micropermporometer. The permeability of the membranes was evaluated with the flux of pure water. When the BE was added, the pore size of membranes became larger than blank membranes. The changes in the morphology of membrane due to the BE addition depend on polymer structure. All membranes have similar mean pore size and porosity. The mean pore sizes of PSF, PES, and PPS membranes were 0.282, 0.330 $0.308{\mu}m$, respectively. The porosities of PSF, PES and PPS membranes were 68.5, 66.1, 66.4%, respectively. However, the PPS membrane showed higher pore density on surface and narrower pore size distribution than PSF or PES membrane does. As a result, the pure water flux of PPS membrane ($357L/m^2\;hr$) was higher than that of PSF ($196L/m^2\;hr$) or PES membrane ($214L/m^2\;hr$).
This study was carried out to investigate on the improvement of fertilizing and developing ability of in vitro matured oocytes from sperm density, motility and PVP(polyvinylpyrrolidone), HA(hyaluronic acid) concentrations, sperm capacitation and intact, free-zona of bovine oocytes obtained by intracytoplasmic sperm injection(ICSI). 1. The fertilization and cleavage rates of bovine oocytes obtained by ICSI treated 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.05% of PVP concentrations were 72.7∼90.9% and 38.5∼54.5%, respectively and these values of 0.02% addition of PVP were higher than other concentrations of PVP 2. The fertilization and cleavage rates of bovine oocytes obtained by ICSI treated 0.01, 0.02% HA and 0.02% PVP + HA concentrations were 72.7%, 40.9% and 81.8%, 54.5% and 83.3%, 37.5%, respectively. and these values of 0.02% addition of PVP + HA were lowe than other concentrations of HA. 3. The fertilization and cleavage rates of bovine oocytes obtained by ICSI treated fresh and frozen sperm were 93.3%, 85.7% and 60.0%, 46.7%, respectively and these values of fresh sperm injection were higher than frozen sperm. 4. The fertilization and cleavage rates of bovine oocytes obtained by ICSI capacitated sperm of heparin, BFF and His methods were 86.7%, 78.9%, 65.0% and 61.9%, 52.6%, 50.0%, respectively. 5. The fertilization and cleavage rates of zona-intact and zona-free bovine oocytes obtained by ICSI were 84.2%, 78.3% and 57.9%, 34.8%, respectively. 6. The fertilization and cleavage rates of bovine oocytes obtained by IVF or ICSI were 63.3∼64.6%, 88.2∼90.0% and 26.7∼29.2%, 52.9∼67.5%, respectively. This ICSI method improved high fertilization rates of bovine oocytes.

Recently, the application range of organic solvent nanofiltration (OSN) technology has been expanding, requiring membranes with better performance. In this work, thin film composite (TFC) OSN membrane was fabricated. First, ultrafiltration support membrane was prepared via nonsolvent-induced phase separation (NIPS) technique using polysulfone (PSf) and polyethersulfone (PES). Then, the effect of pore forming additives such as polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and pluronic F-127 were employed to improve the membrane permeance. The well-known interfacial polymerization technique was employed using MPD-TMC chemistry to form a thin film on top of the fabricated support, and its solvent permeance and nanofiltration performance was characterized. It was found that polyethersulfone support exhibited more reliable performance compared to polysulfone, and PVP additive was more effective compared to Pluronic F-127. As for the oSN performance, polar aprotic solvents like acetonitrile show significantly higher flux (986.5 L·m-2·h-1·bar-1) compared to water and EtOH (9.5 L·m-2·h-1·bar-1).

This study was undertaken to assess the susceptibility of pigmented and nonpigmented strains of Serratia marcescens to antibiotics and human sera, and the effect of culture filtrates from pigmented and nonpigmented of Serratia marcescens on humoral and cellular immune responses in mice to thymus-dependent and indepependent antigens. Humoral immune response was measured by hemagglutinin (HA) and hemolysin (HE) to sheep red blood cell (SRBC), and Arthus or antibody response to polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). The cellular immune response was measured by delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) determined by footpad swelling reactin to SRBC. The resistance of pigmented strains of Serratia marcescens to the bactericidal action of heat inactivated human serum was insignificantly greater than that of nonpigmented strains. However, the pigmented strains were significantly more resistant to the bactericidal action of heat-untreated human serum than that of nonpigmented strains. The clinical isolates of Serratia marcestens was also tested for their resistance to several antibiotics. There was no difference between the pigmented and non-pigmented strains in the resistance to carbenicillin. However, nonpigmented strains were more resistant to gentamicin, kanamycin and tobramycin than the pigmented strains. The intraperitoneal administration of culture filtrates from the pigmented or nonpigmented strains into mice caused enhancemented of antibody response to SRBC or PVP, and of DTH to SRBC. Besides, their enhancement of immune responses was more prominent when culture filtrate from the pigmented strains was administered.
This study investigated the effect of 2-butoxyethanol (BE) as a nonsolvent additive, relative humidity and air contact time on the structure formation of microfiltration membranes, permeation and morphology properties in phase inversion process. The membranes were prepared by using polyethersulfone (PES)/Dimethyl formamide (DMF)/p-toluenesulfonic acid (TSA)/Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)/BE casting solution and water coagulant. Casting solutions containing various concentration of BE were exposed to a water vapor, under 60 and 80% of relative humidity for 40 and 90 sec, which would be absorbed on. The correlations between the membrane permeation properties and surface/inner structures of membrane were investigated. The characterization of membranes was carried out by a capillary flow porometer, a FE-SEM and a water permeation test apparatus. The surface structure of PES membranes was affected by the exposure time as well as the relative humidity strongly. Furthermore, the addition of BE helped control surface and inner structure at certain humidity and exposure time.
