  • The steam turbine efficiency is an important factor in power plant. Accurate evaluation of steam turbine performance is essential. However, it is not easy to evaluate the steam turbine performance due to its high temperature and high pressure circumstance. Therefore most steam turbine performance tests were conducted by air similarity test. This paper described a test program for air similarity test of steam turbine at Korea Aerospace Research Institute. A test facility has been designed and built to evaluate aerodynamic performance of turbines. The test facility consists of air supply system, single stage test section, power absorption system, instrumentation and auxiliary system. For evaluation of steam turbine performance, the test of single stage axial turbine air similarity performance was conducted and uncertainty analysis was performed.

  • For nuclear power plants (NPPs) to have long lifetimes, ageing is a major issue. Currently, ageing management for NPP systems is based on correlations built from generic experimental data. However, each system has its own characteristics, operational history, and environment. To account for this, it is possible to resort to prognostics that predicts the future state and time to failure (TTF) of the target system by updating the generic correlation with specific information of the target system. In this paper, we present an application of particle filtering for the prediction of degradation in steam generator tubes. With a case study, we also show how the prediction results vary depending on the uncertainty of the measurement data.

  • Reactivity Initiated Accident (RIA) scenarios require special attention using advanced simulation techniques due to their complexity and importance for nuclear power plant (NPP) safety. While the conservative approach has traditionally been used for safety analysis, it may lead to unrealistic results which calls for the use of best estimate plus uncertainty (BEPU) approach, especially with the current advances in computational power which makes the BEPU analysis feasible. In this work an Uncontrolled Control Element Assembly (CEA) Withdrawal at Full Power accident scenario is analyzed using the BEPU approach by loosely coupling the thermal hydraulics best-estimate system code (RELAP5/SCDAPSIM/MOD3.4) to the statistical analysis software (DAKOTA) using a Python interface. Results from the BEPU analysis indicate that a realistic treatment of the accident scenario yields a larger safety margin and is therefore encouraged for accident analysis as it may enable more economic and flexible operation.

  • This paper deals with the attitude control of a self-made VTOL vehicle which is round shape and has four fans and motors. Although hovering mechanisms are suitable for field work at a mountainous region or a building site etc., it is known that modeling the structure of the plant is quite difficult due to its unstable or uncertain characteristics. So, a robust controller is requried in order to cope with these uncertainties. WE first model the structure of the plant under the actual hovering setting and then determine the uncertainty of the acquired mathematical model by using system identification method as exactly as possible. We adopt the $H^{\infty}$ theory as a control algorithm because of its availability, and the structure of two-degree-of-freedom is used as a basic feedback control system to improve the transient response of the plant. Finally, we show the appropriateness of the designed controller through simulations and experiments. That is, the proposed VTOL system is able to maintain its roubust performance in spite of parameter variations and existing disturbances..

  • The paper proposes reference model error feedback control scheme for motion control system with hard non-linear components as like saturation and dead-zone in plant input part. Additionally, the plant has the system uncertainty effected by plant model parameter deviation and disturbance. The control algorithm uses the reference model to apply additional feedback loop with the error between reference model output and actual output effected by disturbance and non-linear components. And the stability evaluation based on Popov stability and controller design method are formulated to be performed. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is examined by simulations. The results are proven by reasonable performances following reference model responses with good disturbance rejection performance without over-tuning of controller.

  • The performance evaluation of the Samcheonpo small-hydropower plant constructed on the October 25th,2006, was carried out focused on the turbine and generator efficiency analysis by using the measurement data. The unreasonable and unrealistic efficiency results are occurred in some periods because of the data variability, uncertainty, and measurement errors and mistakes. Whereas, the big mismatch is the tidal elevation predicted in the design processes. The difference between the measured and estimated tidal elevation is obvious during the low water period. It should be considered and checked in depth on the efficiency analysis of the planned and constructing small-hydro power plants in other coastal areas.

  • A robustness analysis for model reference adaptive control(MRAC) system with plant uncertainty is discussed in this paper. The adaptive control system is designed under assumptions that the controlled plant is represented by a lst order nominal model and that the system is drived by a constant reference signal. When using general gradient method(GGM), it is shown that unmodelled dynamics in plant model can cause the instability of the overall control loop during the adaptation process. However, as the algorithm of least square method(LSM) is introduced, the global stability of the system can be hold. And it is also given that the boundedness of adjustable parameters may be verified using the concept of an equilibrium point analysis.

  • This paper focuses on the issue of force synchronizing control for the injection servomechanism of injection molding machines. Prior to the controller design, a virtual design model was developed for the injection mechanism with an AC servomotor-ball screw. A synchronizing controller is designed and combined with the PID control to accommodate the mismatches between the real plant and the linear model plant used. Due to the plant uncertainty, the stiffness and the damping of the mechanism were considered. From the tracking control simulations based on the virtual design model, it is shown that a significant reduction in force synchronizing error is achieved through the use of a proposed control scheme.

  • For the purpose of extending the fields of biological preconceptual studies, the conceptions of plant classification, which have not been researched on them in korea, were selected and a questionnaire were administered to a sample of a total of 965 students at elementary and secondary school levels of korea. Many elementary school students have the alternative conceptions that plants are not alive. The misconceptions in plant classification are partly caused by the uncertainty of biological terms. To serve the teachers, who have difficulty in teaching them, the preceeding results are summarised with Composition the misconception maps.

  • This paper presents an adaptive PID control scheme with fuzzy model for nonlinear system. TSK(Takagi-Sugeno-Kang) fuzzy model was used to estimate the error of control input, and the parameter of PID controller was adapted from the error The parameter of TSK fuzzy model was also adapted to plant by comparing the activity output of plant and model output. PID controller which was adapted the uncertainty of nonlinear plant and the change of parameter can be designed by using the presented method. The usefullness of algorithm which was proposed by the simulation of several nonlinear system was also certificated.
