  • Constructed-response items are useful to estimate a higher-order thinking abilities such as sense of place, graphicacy, and geographical imaginations which are aimed by geography education. This study aims to identify the conception of the constructed-response items, to classify those feasible items in geography education, and to propose some comments and suggestions for development and application in Korea. The author tries to classify the constructed-response items by analyzing the NAEP items in the formal aspect and the aspect of cognitive dimension respectively. In the formal aspect, they are classified as 'question-standalone' type and 'material-presenting' type. In the aspect of cognitive dimension, they are classified into three types as 'knowledge-requirement', 'understanding-requirement', and 'applying-requirement'. Some comments and suggestions are as follows. First, it is necessary to develope the constructed-response items that coherent to both content and cognitive dimensions. Second, it is required for students who take an examination to use a great variety of graphics, photos, thematic maps related to geography. Third, we need to inquire the rubric, grade, process to scoring because they are vital to success of the constructed-response items.

  • Recently, sound design is being made by corporations for the production as well as for marketing and web with consideration of image of productions and attributes to improve corporational image through the design of melody which would remain in users. And sound is becoming an important factor to establish the identity of each area such as life environment and public facilities. At present, our local governments are promoting active business like as CIP to improve urban image but there is a limit to establish identity as the result of its partial focus on visual sense or insufficient recognition about it. Jeonju, the place of sound, has many festivals and great meetings related with sound but it has not identity in the sense of sound. So the purpose of this study is to suggest the condition of sound which has the trait of Jeonju and to provide data for the trait to be used as a necessary element to establish identity in order to activate regional image. For the method of research, sampling Korean beautiful 100 sounds among the natural sounds of residents. most favorite as the samples of sound to search the sound of regional image. Selecting favorite samples among them and analyzed the factors through the questionnaire on the image of adjective in each sample. As the result of analysis, it has been shown that the factor of sound to reveal trait of Jeonju is the image of bright, delight, and cozy with consideration of harmony, dynamics, contrast, and culture. For this study is to provide data so it can be used to actively establish and identify the local image.

  • Objectives: It is difficult to identify exposure factors in the semiconductor industry due to low exposure levels to hazardous substances and because various processes take place in fabrication (FAB). Furthermore, a single worker often experiences a variety of job histories, so it is difficult to classify similar exposure groups (SEG) in the semiconductor industry. Therefore, we intend to develop a new exposure index, the period of working in FAB, that is applicable to the semiconductor industry. Methods: First, in specifying the classification of jobs, we clearly distinguished whether they were FAB workers or non-FAB workers. We checked FAB working hours per week through questionnaires administered to FAB workers. We derived an exposure index called FAB-Year that can represent the period of working in FAB. FAB-Year is an index that can quantitatively indicate the period of working in FAB, and one FAB-Year is defined as working in FAB for 40 hours per week for one year. Results: A total of 8,453 persons were surveyed, and male engineers and female operators occupied 90% of the total. The average total years of service of the subjects was 9.7 years, and the average FAB-Year value was 6.8. This means that the FAB-working ratio occupies 70% of total years of service. The average FAB-Year value for female operators was 8.4, for male facility engineers it was 7.7, and for male process engineers it was 3.5. A FAB-Year standardization value according to personal information (gender, job group, entry year, retirement year) for the survey subjects can be calculated, and standardized estimation values can be applied to workers who are not participating in the survey, such as retirees and workers on a leave of absence (LOA). Conclusions: This study suggests an alternative method for overcoming the limitations on epidemiological study of the semiconductor industry where it is difficult to classify exposure groups by developing a new exposure index called FAB-Year. Since FAB-Year is a quantitative index, we expect that various approaches will be possible in future epidemiological studies.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the existence, personal characteristics and behavior of market-participants, and function of urban weekly markets in Taegu City through observation, interview and questionnaire survey. There are four weekly periodic markets such as Seongso(Monday), Chilgok(Wednesday), Siji(Thursday), and Chilgok(Friday) which have recently developed near the new apartment areas on the outskirts of Taegu. The major findings of this study can be summarized as follows: These markets originated from the agricultural cooperative's Friday markets, but were substantially established by mobile traders or merchants for the sake of their livelihood. Therefore, the existence of these markets is not explained by Stine's central place perspective but partially explained by Hay's economic locational and Bromley's socio-cultural perspective. Most traders are male, aged 30 to 40 years and have an educational level higher than high school. Most of them are living in Taegu and itinerantly visit more than two markets among the four markets by small truck. And most of them sell agricultural products and other food materials, except some who sell manufactured goods. Most consumers are housewives, aged 20 to 30 years and have an educational level higher than high school. Most of them are living within 1,000m and go there on foot. Most of them visit the markets around 3 to 5 p.m. on every market day. And they mostly buy vegetables, fruits, and fishes. Weekly markets provide employment opportunities for those who want to be merchants, and also contribute to the increase of farmers' income, because some traders(18.8%) are farmers who periodically visit markets to sell agricultural products. On the other hand, they function as a general food materials markets to neighboring residents. From these facts, both traders and consumers want weekly markets sustained. Therefore, these markets need to be protected by institutional assistance in spite of being informal markets.

  • The aim of this study is which factors affect the commercial land values and how they act upon them through distribution of commercial land values by multiple regression analysis in Gwangju city. The major findings of this study are as follows: (1) The changes of commercial land values distribution in $1989{\sim}1996$, We see that the commercial area of higher land values extends following the main arterial road. This is related to urbanization in urban fringe while the decline of commercial land values occurs in city center with long history of commercial region. This is due to unsuitableness in rapid changes of commercial environment because of fragmented lots, old buildings. traffic congestion etc. (2) The regions where commercial land values greatly rose are the west in constructed the new planning city center of Sangmu-dong. and the south west in which is related to the extension of high density apartment and the location of big discount stores. (3) Through the changes in commercial land values distribution map. and road map, topographical map, we know that commercial land values is related to various factors; namely, distance from CBD, convenient traffic, reputation of commercial district, condition of a road, size of supplementary, a degree of commercial land use etc. (4) From the above related factor, six variables are extracted by operational definition. That is the spatial distance from the city center, the walking distance to a stopping place, the road width, the amount of bus traffic, the amount of pedestrian, the number of the shop. (5) Data of seven variables are collected on the highest values point of each Dong. We applicate multiple regression analysis with commercial land values as a dependent variable, extracted six variables as independent variables. (6) As a result of multiple regression on the determinants of commercial land values, the variables which is greatly related to commercial land values are the amount of pedestrain, the spatial distance from city center. We identify that two variables explain variance of the commercial land values by 65%. (7) In order to make clear about not explained 35%. we carry out analysis of residual. In consequence, we see small estimate in downtown area and large estimate in urban fringe. This feature is due to simple core structure of Gwangju city and limits of this regression model.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the ecological characteristics and biological interactions between species of the abandoned rice paddy field in mountainous areas and to suggest a management strategy for stable food chain formation and biodiversity enhancement. The study site is located in Uldae wetland of Songchu district Bukhansan National Park, site characteristics and biological habitat characteristics were identified through site survey and literature survey. With regard to physical environment, among geographical features, the Uldae Wetland and the neighborhood inside the basin was a gently sloping area($5{\sim}15^{\circ}$). And 64.0% of basin faced the north. With regard to water environment, the Uldae Wetland was wetland of rainfed paddy field depending on precipitation and the system of stream flowing into the wetland from valley. According to the results of examining flora in plant ecology, in general, they were herbaceous wetland species. 88.6% of existing plants inside the Uldae Wetland basin was a forest in the mountain. And Quercus spp. community and Pinus densiflora community accounted for 64.6% of that, and was dominant. Except for that, Salix koreensis community was distributed. The existing vegetation of Uldae Wetland inhabited wetland species and terrestrialization indicator species, and it was thought that partial terrestrialization inside the Uldae Wetland was in progress after the discontinuation of paddy cultivation, such as the expansion of Salix koreensis distribution area. In the status of appearing faunae in the Uldae Wetland with regard to wildbirds of appearing principal species, The Uldae wetland was based on a abandoned rice paddy field various wildlife, and was a wildlife feeding, spawning, and resting place. The water environment was an important factor in maintaining the wetland living creatures function, habitat of waterbirds and benthic macroinvertebrates, amphibians and odonate are spawning ground and habitat, it was affecting the vegetation ecosystem based on wetlands. In order to maintain the diversity of wildlife, it was important to maintain smooth water supply and water level. A stable food chain will be formed and the Uldae wetland biodiversity will be abundant by establishing the relationship between the species of Uldae wetland, which is abandoned rice paddy field, and the habitat environment favored by species belonging to the ecosystem stepwise linkage. • As the first step in developing the urban information system it is very important to identify the location of the street, and the feature of objects on it Also it is necessary to understand the relationship between objects concerned. In order to manage these information efficiently, the road information should be well organized and standardized for digital data. Because the road is the base place under which most urban utilities are buried. However, the present real situation is that even if we have unique numbers authorized by law for some parts of the road it is too ambiguous to figure out the spatial location of the specific area because the assigned area is so large and incoherent. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose a road location identication scheme, to apply this scheme at Kangnam-ku Seoul, and finally to propose the guideline in developing the road management information system in Korea. The road identification scheme developed in this study are as follows: (1) The road is defined as a fixed factor, and was given the identification number which repressents the funtion, relationship, and direction of the road without the road section and absolute coordinates. (2) The parcel identification nutter was given to each route to understand it possible to understand the location of the road itself and surroundings. (3) To update the md information using the scheme developed in this study relative coordinate method(Dynamic Segmentation) based on the road centerline was applied.
