  • In this study, sediment transfer and precipitation analysis of the test bed watershed was conducted through the model for the application and practical use of the urban sediment disaster prevention technology, and used this as an aid to design to secure reliability. In addition, conducted the test bed monitoring with the defense technology, analyzed the effect, and established the maintenance plan. Analyzed the change of soil deposition volume through arbitrary slope adjustment for the currently installed stormwater conduit of the test bed watershed. As a result, it is important to reduce the total sedimentation amount in the adjustment of the slope of the entire pipeline, but it is important that the sedimentation depth of each sediment does not rise to such a degree as to threaten the performance of the pipeline. Considering these matters, it is necessary to design the pipeline to prevent the clogging of the soil from the viewpoint of the reliability of the entire pipeline. The sediment disaster defense technology test bed is divided into a new city and an old city, and old city test bed is under construction. The result obtained through the monitoring of the test bed in the new city, sediment disasters such as debris can delay the time to reach the downtown area, and it is possible to secure the golden time, such as evacuation and rescue through the warning system. Also, the maintenance of the test bed application was suggested. Continuous and systematic monitoring is required for securing the reliability of element technology and successful commercialization.

  • Since the interior shape of a pressure regulator is complex and the change of fluid resistance at each operation condition is rapid and big, the pressure regulator can become the major factor that causes big loss in pipelines. So the suitable pressure regulator modeling by each operation condition is important to obtain reliable results especially in small scale pipeline network analysis. And in order to prevent the condensation and freezing problems, it is needed to confirm both whether temperature recovery is achieved after passing by the pressure regulator's narrow neck and how much amount of low temperature area that can cause condensate accumulation is distributed by various PCV models at every inlet-outlet pressure ratio. In this research, the numerical model resembling P company pressure regulator that is used widely for high pressure range in commercial, is adopted as the base model of CFD analysis to investigate pressure regulator's flow characteristics at each pressure ratio. Additionally it is also introduced to examine pressure regulator's critical flow characteristics and possibility of condensation or freezing at each pressure ratio. Furthermore, the comparison between the results of CFD analysis and the results of analytic solution obtained by compressible fluid-dynamics theory is attempted to validate the results of CFD modeling in this study and to estimate the accuracy of theoretical approach at each pressure ratio too.

  • The automatic identification and classification of image-based weld defects is a difficult task due to the complex texture of the X-ray images of the weld defect. Several depth learning methods for automatically identifying welds were proposed and tested. In this work, four different depth convolutional neural networks were evaluated and compared on the 1631 image set. The concavity, undercut, bar defects, circular defects, unfused defects and incomplete penetration in the weld image 6 different types of defects are classified. Another contribution of this paper is to train a CNN model "RayNet" for the dataset from scratch. In the experiment part, the parameters of convolution operation are compared and analyzed, in which the experimental part performs a comparative analysis of various parameters in the convolution operation, compares the size of the input image, gives the classification results for each defect, and finally shows the partial feature map during feature extraction with the classification accuracy reaching 96.5%, which is 6.6% higher than the classification accuracy of other existing fine-tuned models, and even improves the classification accuracy compared with the traditional image processing methods, and also proves that the model trained from scratch also has a good performance on small-scale data sets. Our proposed method can assist the evaluators in classifying pipeline welding defects.

  • In order to estimate the integrity and identify the dynamic characteristics of buried gas pipelines subjected to vehicle loads, FE analysis is performed based on the 'Highway and Local Road Design Criteria' and the 'KOGAS Guideline for Pipeline Management'. The FE model describes the current burial condition of Korea properly, and the DB-24 load model is adopted for this research. This study considers a varying velocity in the range of $40{\sim}160\;km/h$ and $P_i=8$ MPa(internal pressure) with depth cover, Z=1.5 m. Maximum stress occurs at v=80 km/h and decreases after v=80 km/h. The maximum induced stress by DB-24 loads is about 10 MPa. Under the design pressure, however, the analysis results show that API 5L Gr. X65 pipelines have sufficient integrity to withstand the vibration of vehicle loads.

  • Submarine pipelines encounter significant wave forces in shallow coastal waters due to the action of waves. In order to reduce such forces (also to protect the pipe against anchors and dropped objects) they are buried below the seabed. The wave force variation due to burial depends on the engineering characteristics of the sub soil like hydraulic conductivity and porosity, apart from the design environmental conditions. For a given wave condition, in certain type of soil, the wave force can reduce drastically with increased burial and in certain other type of soil, it may not. It is hence essential to understand how the wave forces vary in soils of different hydraulic conductivity. Based on physical model study, the wave forces on the buried pipeline model is assessed for a wide range of wave conditions, for different burial depths and for four types of cohesion-less soils, covering hydraulic conductivity in the range of 0.286 to 1.84 mm/s. It is found that for all the four soil types, the horizontal wave force reduces with increase in depth of burial, whereas the vertical force is high for half buried condition. Among the soils, well graded one is better for half buried case, since the least vertical force is experienced for this situation. It is found that uniformly graded and low hydraulic conductivity soil attracts the maximum vertical force for half buried case. A case study analysis is carried out and is reported. The results of this study are useful for submarine buried pipeline design.

  • This paper presents a study on the mechanical behavior of buried pipelines crossing faults using experimental and numerical methods. A self-made soil-box was used to simulate normal fault, strike-slip fault and oblique slip fault. The effects of some important parameters, including the displacement and type of fault, the buried depth and the diameter of pipe, on the deformation modes and axial strain distribution of the buried pipelines crossing faults was studied in the experiment. Furthermore, a finite element analysis (FEA) model of spring boundary was developed to investigate the performance of the buried pipelines crossing faults, and FEA results were compared with experimental results. It is found that the axial strain distribution of those buried pipelines crossing the normal fault and the oblique fault is asymmetrical along the fault plane and that of buried pipelines crossing the strike-slip fault is approximately symmetrical. Additionally, the axial peak strain appears near both sides of the fault and increases with increasing fault displacement. Moreover, the axial strain of the pipeline decreases with decreasing buried depth or increasing ratios of pipe diameter to pipe wall thickness. Compared with the normal fault and the strike-slip fault, the oblique fault is the most harmful to pipelines. Based on the accuracy of the model, the regression equations of the axial distance from the peak axial strain position of the pipeline to the fault under the effects of buried depth, pipe diameter, wall thickness and fault displacement were given.

  • Semantic role labeling task(SRL) is to extract predicate and arguments such as agent, patient, place, time. In the previously SRL task studies, a pipeline method extracting linguistic features of sentence has been proposed, but in this method, errors of each extraction work in the pipeline affect semantic role labeling performance. Therefore, methods using End-to-End neural network model have recently been proposed. In this paper, we propose a neural network model using the Biaffine Average Attention model for SRL task. The proposed model consists of a structure that can focus on the entire sentence information regardless of the distance between the predicate in the sentence and the arguments, instead of LSTM model that uses the surrounding information for prediction of a specific token proposed in the previous studies. For evaluation, we used F1 scores to compare two models based BERT model that proposed in existing studies using F1 scores, and found that 76.21% performance was higher than comparison models.

  • Recently, researchers and engineers from, the development of reliability engineering and probability fracture mechanics, have begun to take seriously the reliability analysis and the integrity for a corroded pipeline. Pressurized pipelines containing active corrosion defects increase gradually both in extent, and depth with increased periods of exposure. This causes a reduction of the remaining strength and the carrying capacity of a pipeline; and creates uncertainty about the future capacity. The steps that are necessary in order to assess the integrity of corroded pipelines will be discussed in this paper utilizing results from an actual model.
