  • In this study, the living standard and satisfaction level of urban people who moved to rural areas researched. Through these criteria, we could analyze people's perceptions of the current rural life. We would like to present this study as a base for improvement for those who seek a better life in a rural environment. The result of this study is as follows; The specific goals and need of our target group depend on individual characteristics, occupation and age etc. Therefore, the support system should sensibly consider their personal needs. In addition to this, the flow of information between these people should be changed from theoretical perspective to factual perspective. The new rural tenants obtained information on rural life mostly from private channels such as their acquaintances. Organizations responsible for providing information do not offer useful factual information on agrotechnology and financial support. Nevertheless, they are mainly focused on conceptual and ideological information.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the cognitive differences among the aged who have different living conditions. 91 free-meal receivers and 86 people with stable lives were asked about their living conditions and cognitive function by using K-MMSE. All data were analyzed by SPSS 10.0 package. Free meal receivers had poorer socioeconomic status than the subjects who had stable lives. Cognitive function of free meal receivers was lower than the people with stable lives in the most cognitive factors. Especially age of 50 to 64, pre-aged group, who had been receiving free meals, showed lowest cognitive level than the other age groups. Among 7 cognitive factors, there was the greatest difference in attention and calculation between 2 groups. Percentage of 'conclusive dementia' among the free meal receivers was statistically higher than the people with stable lives and that of 'conclusively normal' was statistically lower in free meal receivers comparing with the people with stable lives. Moreover, socioeconomic factors like income, former job, marital status, housing and education, blood pressure and physical activity were significantly related to the subject's cognitive function.

The care system store living informations, extracted through a unconstrained detection method by the RFID tags and readers, into a monitering server. The unconstrained detection method improved a weakness of existing systems that detected a living informations through an infrared sensor, ultrasonic sensor, camera, consumed quantity of the tap water or gas. The result of this study will playa very important role, as a part of a composite older-welfare services. • The number of elderly people living alone increases with the trend of nuclear family in recent aging society and advances of health and medical technologies, where the safety of the elderly people becomes a big social issue. One of the safety system for them these days is that security guards regularly visit homes of the elderly living alone to check their safety. However, it is an inefficient system since it costs a great deal. So, a new efficient system with low cost using modern advanced technologies needs to be developed. In this paper, we implement a monitoring system for elderly living alone using ubiquitous sensor and zigbeX. The system can remotely determine the health status of elderly people and report to their hospitals. Since the system can be implemented with low cost and do the same job as security guards do, we expect that it should replace the existing expensive monitoring system.

  • This study aimed to analyze the preliminary data to increase the residents' satisfaction of mixed-generation house-sharing. For this purpose, we examined the recognition and demands of different generations and compared the differences. The participants were 50 elderly and 100 young people living in Seoul. The data were analyzed using SPSS statistics. The key findings are outlined below; 1. Most of the young people in our sample got to know about the house-sharing via various routes, but this option was not well known to the elderly. The interest in living in a house-sharing situation was higher among the young people than among the elderly. The reason why people were uninterested in house-sharing was their comfort in living alone. 2. Secure personal-space privacy and the choice of a housemate were regarded as the most important considerations in house-sharing by the young and the elderly, respectively. Young people anticipated a division of housework and the elderly were worried about communication with the younger generation. 3. Expected benefits tended to be higher in economic aspects for the young and in psychological aspects for the elderly. The elderly responded that they would be willing to share the kitchen and living room with the younger generation. Young people demanded necessary living facilities such as a laundry room and a community area with the elderly. The majority of the respondents from both generations said they would be able to solve problems through communication. In conclusion, public relations are needed to increase interest in house-sharing. The elderly and young should understand its purpose and treat each other as family members, not as house owners and tenants. There should be a manager who can coordinate the residents.

  • This research studies the residential environment of the elderly and its trend. Our main focus is on the residential condition and its type between parents and their child/ren in korea which has already entered the aging society. The results are as follows: (1) This paper finds that the residence type of the households with elderly people becomes multifarious, as in a two-generation household, a couple and their single child, a couple family, etc. (2) The parents living separately from their child/ren account for 63.3%, which is becoming predominant in the residence type of the elderly. On the other hand, those living with their child/ren take up merely 24.5%. Thus, we can infer that the number of the parents with the former type is on the increase. (3) The residence type in reality is different from the one intended by elderly people, so we can estimate future change in the residence type. (4) The residence type varies, as in living together with young family, living separately from young family, separation at a distance, etc. In conclusion, we need appropriate living programs for each various residence type between elderly people and their children.
