In contrast, the author proposes that trial intention is to better predict consumers' behavioral response in the newly launched brand extension markets where relate to high risk and uncertainty. Furthermore, the study explores the effects of attitude toward parent brand and consumers' characteristics (perceived similarity and consumption experience) on trial intention of brand extensions. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, the data collection was conducted for actual consumers who had experience using parent brand products. This study employed experiment and questionnaire survey and collected data of 186 was analyzed using clustering analysis and regression analysis. The main results are as follows. First, attitude toward parent brand has a positive effect on trial intention of the extensions. Second, perceived similarity and consumption experience of parent brand have moderating effects on the relation of attitude toward parent brand and trial intention of brand extensions. The results provide that both industry and academic researchers with a guide to process trial intention of brand extension from a comprehensive perspective.

Adolescents were middle school students 71 (42.5%) and high school students 96 (57.5%), 90 boys (53.9%), 77 girls (46.1%). The instruments were subjects' self-reported social distance and stereotypes. Data were analyzed by t-test, paired t-test, Pearson's Correlation, and hierarchical regression. Major findings were that : (1) adolescents' social distance was positively associated with adolescent and parent negative stereotypes. (2) Adolescent positive/negative stereotypes were positively associated with parent positive/negative stereotypes. (3) Adolescent negative stereotypes exerted an indirect effect on social distance, controlled by parents' negative stereotypes.

  • The purpose of this study is to obtain basic data needed to understand school-age children's parent-child communication style, stress coping behaviors, and child behavior problems. The subject of this study were 362 primary school children (the fourth and the sixth graders) and their mothers in "D" Metropolitan City, Korea. The research tools included standardized parent-child communication style scale (Min,l991), stress coping behaviors scale (Min,1998), and child behavior problems scale (Hun,l996). The data were analyzed using statistical techniques such as Mean, standard deviation, frequency, percentile, t-test, F-test, pearson's correlational analysis, stepwise regression analysis. In the relationship between child perceived parent-child communication style and stress coping behaviors, the children who make open communication with their parents demonstrate high problem-solving, support-seeking coping behavior. The children with closed communication with their parents have high hope expectation, revenge coping behavior. In the relationship between child perceived parent-child communication style and child behavior problem, the children making more closed communication with their parents show more behavior problems. The children with more closed communication with their mothers have more hyperactive behaviors, aggressive behaviors, and immature behaviors, and the children who are making more closed communication retain more anxious behaviors and withdrawn behaviors. In the relationship between child stress coping behaviors and behavior problems, the more problem-solving and support-seeking coping behaviors the children possess, the less problem behaviors they demonstrate. The more hope expectation, revenge coping behavior the children possess, the more problem behaviors they show. With the results above, we can find out that parent-child communication style has an effect on stress coping behavior, and parent-child communication style and stress coping behavior have an influence on child behavior problem.

  • The study examined the characteristics of the relationship of home environment variables and children's social development. Two studies were conducted ; Study I examined (1) the correlation of home environment variables and children's social ability and (2) the predictability of home environment variables for children's social ability by children's age. Study II investigated the causal relationship among the variables which are supposed to affect children's social ability. The subjects of this study were 240 children at age four, six and eight attending nursery schools, kindergartens and elementary schools and their mothers. Instruments included the Inventory of Home Stimulation (HOME), the Inventory of Sociodemographic Variables, social maturation scale, and the social-emotional developmental rating scale. The results obtained from this study were as follows : 1) Home environment variables had a positive correlation with children's social development at age four and six, but at age eight, only HOME variables had a significant positive correlation with children's social development. 2) The home environmental variables that significantly predicted children's social development differed according to children's age. That is, play materials, economic status of the home, and parent education were predictive of children's social development at age four, while parent's education, fostering maturity and independence, and play materials were predictive at age six. Fostering maturity and independence, aspects of physical environment, and economic status of the home were predictive at age eight. 3) The causal model of home environment effect on children's social development was formulated by exogenous variables (parent education and economic status of the home) and endogenous variables (direct stimulation, indirect stimulation and the emotional climate of the home). 4) The results of the analysis of the causal model showed that the variables that have a direct effect on children's social development differed according to children's age. That is, direct stimulation had more effect on children's social development at earlier ages, and indirect stimulation had more effect on children's social development at later ages. Among socio-demographic variables, parent's education was most closely related to children's social development. The amount of variance that explained children's social development decreased with increase in children's age.

  • The effect of juvenile hormone analogue(JHA, Manina) on larval feeding duration, pupation ratio, cocoon weight, and cocoon shell weight in the present commercial parent and hybrid silkworm stocks were investigated. Topical applications of JHA on parent silkworm stocks were to prolong larval duration, but results of response on those stocks were not consistent. Especially the JHA on Jam 121, Jam 123 and Jam 138 did not play a role in larval duration, whereas that on Jam 114 was most effective in prolongation more than two days, compared with the controls. subsequent prolongation of feeding duration resulted in increase of cocoon weight and cocoon shell weight of most parent silkworm stocks, while Jam 114 showed decrease in cocoon weight and cocoon shell weight in spite of prolonged feeding duration of two days. Unlike the parent silkworm stocks, durations of feeding period in all hybrid silkworm stocks were prolonged about one day. Treatments of JHA on the hybrid stocks gave rise to increase of cocoon weight and cocoon shell weight, and especially were most effective in Sasung-jam, Eunbaek-jam and Samgwang-jam. Although treatments of JHA seemed to have no harmful effect on physiology of parent silkworm stocks as well as that of hybrid stocks, the JHA retarded pupation ratio of some parent silkworm stocks such as Jam 122, 131, 135 and 138 by about 10%.
