  • A purpose of this research is building a Parameter Evaluation Simulation(PES) program which is present proper parameter value to calculate line capacity. This research performs a detailed simulation and a analysis of it using PES and it is developed on the basis of Line Capacity Simulation model. Chosen simulation sectors are that happened a big change of a line capacity because of joining a high speed train(KTX). Moreover this research performs a sensitivity analysis when basic data are changed.

  • One dimensional numerical modeling was carried out for the melting behavior of dry snow and the unsaturated flow when heat was supplied from the bottom surface. Discrepancy between the previous experimental data and the present numerical results is substantially reduced by considering the density change of water permeation layer due to the infiltration of meltwater. In the parametric study for effective thermal conductivity, it was found that the effect of this parameter to the behavior of snow melting is minor. Sensitivity analysis showed that the melting time is most sensitive to changes in supplied heat flux, snow temperature, and bulk density, whereas snow bulk density and residual saturation have a significant effect on the height of water permeation layer in snow.

  • This paper presents a new vector control scheme for induction motor. An exact knowledge of the rotor flux position is essential for a high-performance vector control. The position of the rotor flux is measured in the direct schemes and estimated in the indirect schemes. Since the estimation of the flux position requires a priori knowledge of the induction motor parameters, the indirect schemes are machine parameter dependent. The rotor and stator resistance among the parameters change with temperature. Variations in the parameters of induction machine cause deterioration of both the steady state and dynamic operation of the induction motor drive. Several methods have presented to minimize the consequences of parameter sensitivity in indirect scheme. In this paper, new estimation scheme of rotor flux position is presented to eliminate sensitivity due to variation in the resistance. The simulation is executed to verify the proposed vector control performance and to compare its performance with that of indirect and direct vector control.

Modeling of Esterase Production from Saccharomyces cerevisiae

  • A suitable simple model tested by experiments is required to address complex biological reactions like esterase synthesis by Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Such an approach might be the answer to a proper bioprocessing strategy. In this regard, a logistic model for esterase production from Saccharomyces cerevisiae has been developed, which predicts well the cell mass, the carbon source (glucose) consumption, and the esterase activity. The accuracy of the model has been statistically examined by using the Student's t-test. The parameter sensitivity analysis showed that all five parameters (${\mu}_m$, $K_a$, $X_m$, $Y_{x/s}$, and $Y_{p/x}$) have significant influence on the predicted values of esterase activity.

  • A program to analyze the performance characteristics of a hydraulic shimmy damper for automotive steering system was developed in this study. Dimensionless mathematical equations of the dynamics of shimmy damper for forward and reverse fluid flows were derived respectively and incorporated into the Simulink models. The program was validated by comparing the results of simulation and experiments for various frequencies of upstream ripple pressures into the damper. Low-pass filter characteristics of the shimmy damper at reverse flow was demonstrated which means that the shimmy damper could alleviate the high speed ripple pressures induced by the unbalance oscillation of tire in vehicle driving. The parameter sensitivity analysis was also conducted to identify the dominant parameters for the damper performance.

  • This paper introduces a method of estimating the knee joint moment developed during MVC. By combining the Hill-type muscle model and analytic results on moment arm and musculotendon length change as a function of hip and knee joint angle, the knee joint moment at a specific knee joint angle during MVC is determined. Many differences between the estimated results and the experimental data are noted. It is believed that these differences originate from inaccurate information on the muscle-tendon parameters. The establishment of exact values for the subject's muscle parameters is almost impossible task. However, sensitivity analysis shows that the tendon slack length is the most critical parameter when applying the Hill-type muscle model. The effect of a change of this parameter on the muscle length force relationship is analyzed in detail.

Multi-axial Force Characteristics of Radial Electrodynamic Wheel (래디알 동전기 휠의 다축력 특성)

  • The rotating electrodynamic wheel over a conductive plate produces thrust force as well as normal force. Specially, separating the conductive plate and spacing apart each part, the lateral stability of the rotating wheel is guaranteed due to the restoring force into neutral position. In this paper, the force characteristics of the electrodynamic wheel rotating over the conductive plate is analyzed using the finite element tool. First, the dominant parameters are identified considering the geometric configuration and the operating condition. And the sensitivity for the parameter deviation is quantified for the high force density. The above topology can be applied as an actuating principle for inter-city train as well as contact-free transfer device.

Confidence region of identified parameters and optimal sensor locations based on sensitivity analysis

  • This paper presents a computational method for a confidence region of identified parameters which are affected by measurement noise and error contained in prescribed parameters. The method is based on sensitivities of the identified parameters with respect to model parameter error and measurement noise along with the law of error propagation. By conducting numerical experiments on simple models, it is confirmed that the confidence region coincides well with the results of numerical experiments. Furthermore, the optimum arrangement of sensor locations is evaluated when uncertainty exists in prescribed parameters, based on the concept that square sum of coefficients of variations of identified results attains minimum. Good agreement of the theoretical results with those of numerical simulation confirmed validity of the theory.

  • A Numerical modeling approach is usually applied to reproduce the physical phenomena of a fill dam-break. The accuracy of the dam-break model depends on the physical structure that defines input variables such as the storage volume, breach formation and progress, and the parameters of the model, which are subjective as they are prescribed by users. In this study, a sensitivity analysis was performed for the nonlinear breach progression curve that was already developed, which includes four parameters. The study focuses on the two of the parameters which control the breach forming time and peak discharge. The model is coupled with a two-dimensional flood simulation model (FLO-2D) to examine flood coverage and depth. It is generally observed that the parameter ${\beta}$ controls only the breach forming time, the parameter ${\gamma}$ is particularly sensitive to the peak flow.

  • Accurate evaluation of residual stress is important for stress corrosion cracking assessment. In this paper, electron beam welding experiment is simulated via finite element analysis and the sensitivity of the parameters related to the combined heat source model is investigated. Predicted residual stresses arecompared with measured residual stresses. It is found that the welding efficiency affects the size of the tensile residual stress area and the magnitude of maximum longitudinal residual stress. It is also found that the parameter related to the ratio of energy distributed to the two-dimensional heat source has little effect on the size of tthe tensile residual stress area, but affects the size of the longitudinal residual stress in the center of the weld.
