  • Wireless Sensor Networks will revolutionize applications such as environmental monitoring, home automation, and logistics. We developed forest fire surveillance system. In this paper, Considering the fact that in Korea, during November to May, forest fires occur very frequently causing catastrophic damages on the valuable environment, Although exists other forest fire surveillance system such as surveillance camera tower, infrared ray sensor system and satellite system. Preexistence surveillance system can't real-time surveillance, monitoring, database and automatic alarm. But, forest fire surveillance system(FFSS) support above. In this paper, we describes a system development approach for a wireless sensor network based FFSS that is to be used to measure temperature and humidity as well as being fitted with a smoke detector. Such a device can be used as an early warning fire detection system and real-time surveillance in the area of a bush fire or endangered public infrastructure. Once the system has being development, a mesh network topology will be implemented with the chosen sensor node with the aim of developing a sophisticated mesh network.

  • The "Intelligent Fire detecting and Extinguishing System" is an up-to-date fire protection system for modern high-rise buildings, international airports, enormous industrial facilities, dome stadiums such as specific areas in which the application of our local fire protection regulation could not be satisfied. The state-of-the art initiating devices communicated with sophisticated network control panels enable peoples to get reliable and powerful suppressions using water or gas, providing absolute protection. The Intelligent Water Cannon System, the Low Pressure $CO_2$ System and the MXL Networking Fire Alarm System introduced in this paper accomplish the dynamic protection for the special hazards.

  • This paper concerns the application of smoke and fire spread to road tunnel fire problems. When a road tunnel is on fire. a fire protection system of road tunnel have to offer an adequate escape space to human. Therefore, this study carried out a simulation for predicting a spreading path of smoke and fire. The evolution of the flow field is simulated with the low Reynolds number k-$\varepsilon$ turbulent model and SIMPLE algorithm based on the finite volume method.

  • In this paper, we developed a breather valve with a water mist system for use near an oil storage tank. Our process applied a water mist system to the flame arrester to evaluate the fire suppression characteristics. For the fire suppression evaluation of the water mist system, we evaluated the angle of the nozzle, fire suppression, spray particle size, flashback, fire suppression time, and fire suppression test of antifreeze. Through the fire suppression test, the best fire suppression nozzle used an angle of $140^{\circ}$, and the flashback phenomenon of flame arrester did not occur. The fire suppression time of water mist system time was within three seconds, and the antifreeze was no problem with the fire suppression.

  • Water mist fire suppression system utilizes the fire suppression features such as cooling of fire source, dilution of ambient oxygen, and shielding of radiation heat with the evaporation of microscopic water droplets. The momentum of water mist is relatively low and the infiltration of water mist to the fire source is not effective. In addition to lower penetration force, the evaporated water vapor is liable to decline to limited portion of fire source due to its light weight and sparse density. On the other hand, the cycling water mist system is expected to improve the penetration force of water mist as well as the dilution coverage capability with the stratified spray characteristics. At this paper we present the analyzed fire suppression capability of intermittent water spray pattern by use of FDS which is computational fire dynamics fire model. We expect this analysis shall be supportive to the development of the prototype of water mist nozzle.

  • This paper presents a numerical investigation on the structural response of a multi-story building subjected to spreading multi-compartment fires. A recently proposed simple fire model has been used to simulate two spreading multi-compartment fire scenarios in a 10-story steel-framed office building. By assuming simple temperature rising and distribution profiles in the fire exposed structural components (steel beams, steel column and concrete slabs), finite element simulations using a three-dimensional structural model has been carried out to study the failure behavior of the whole structure in two multi-compartment fire conditions and also in a standard fire condition. The structure survived the standard fire but failed in the multi-compartment fire. Whilst more accurate fire models and heat transfer models are needed to better predict the behaviors of structures in realistic fires, the current study based on very simple models has demonstrated the importance and necessity of considering spreadingmulti-compartment fires in fire resistance design of multi-story buildings.

  • A solar power generation system uses a solar module that collects solar radiation energy, a connecting board that collects DC power generated from the solar module, and a diode to prevent reverse current from flowing from an inverter to the solar module. The existing photovoltaic connection module consists of only fuses and diodes for reverse polarity and overcurrent blocking, and does not have fire diagnosis, prevention, and suppression functions in the event of a fire. To solve this problem, this paper presents a method to monitor the internal state of the photovoltaic connection module using several sensors and to prevent and extinguish a fire using solenoid valves and fire extinguishing agents when a fire is detected. Through the experiment, it was confirmed that the proposed method normally suppresses the fire in event of a fire.

  • As steel is highly sensitive to temperature variations, fire exposure is more destructive in the case of steel structures in comparison to the concrete ones. The performance of an intermediate three-story steel moment frame with 4 spans was studied under the service load, thermal load and post-earthquake fire in this paper. Also, the effects of passive fire-protection materials such as ordinary cement-based and fire-retardant coatings were investigated. To model and analyze the structure; Abaqus software is utilized. In order to apply the earthquake effect, the push-over analysis method is employed. Changes in the stories deflection, endurance time and growth of nonlinear regions due to losses in the steel stiffness and strength, are among the issues considered in this study. As an interesting finding, the beams protected by ordinary cement-based coating could sustain the fire exposure at least for 30 minutes in all cases. The mentioned time is increased by employing a new fire-retardant protection, which could prevent significant loss in the structure resistance against fire, even after 60 minutes of exposure to fire.

  • This paper presents a study on the analysis of fire detection system using fuzzy logic with input variables of temperature and smoke density. The input variables for the fuzzy logic algorithm are measured by fire experiment of small scale with temperature detector and smoke detector. The antecedent part of fuzzy rules consists of temperature and smoke density, and the consequent part consists of fire possibility. Also the triangular fuzzy membership function is chosen for input variables and fuzzy rules to simplify computation. In order to calculate fuzzy values of such fuzzy system, a computer program is developed with Matlab based on graphics user interface. The experiment was conducted with paper and ethanol to simulate flaming fire and with plastic and sawdust to model smoldering fire. The results showed that the fire detection system presented here was able to diagnose fire very precisely. With the help of algorithms using fuzzy logic we could distinguish whether fire or not.
