  • We study the existence of solutions for overdetermined PDE systems that admit prolongation to a complete system. We reduce the problem to a Pfaffian system on a submanifold of the jet space of unknown functions and then express the integrability conditions in terms of the coefficients of the original system. As possible applications we present some local problems in CR geometry: determining the CR embeddibility into spheres and the existence of infinitesimal CR automorphisms.

  • The improved Green integral equation using the Kelvin-type Green function in known free of irregular frequencies where the integral over the inner free surface integral is removed from the integral equation, resulting in an overdetermined integral equation. The solution of the overdetermined Green integral equation is shown identical with the solution of the improved Green integral equation Using the B-spline higher order panel method, the overdetermined equation is discretized in two different ways; one of the resulting linear system is square and the other is redundant. Numerical experiments show that the solutions of both are identical. Using the present methods, the exact values and higher derivatives of the potential at any place over the wetted surface of the body can be found with much fewer panels than low order panel method.

  • We study the compatibility conditions and the existence of solutions or overdetermined PDE systems that admit complete prolongation. For a complete system of order k there exists a submanifold of the ($\kappa$-1)st jet space of unknown functions that is the largest possible set on which the initial conditions of ($\kappa$-1)st order may take values. There exists a unique solution for any initial condition that belongs to this set if and only if the complete system satisfies the compatibility conditions on the initial data set. We prove by applying the Frobenius theorem to a Pfaffian differential system associated with the complete prolongation.

  • In this paper, dynamic stiffness and flexibility for circular membranes are analytically derived using an efficient mixed-part dual boundary element method (BEM). We employ three approaches, the complex-valued BEM, the real-part and imaginary-part BEM, to determine the dynamic stiffness and flexibility. In the analytical formulation, the continuous system for a circular membrane is transformed into a discrete system with a circulant matrix. Based on the properties of the circulant, the analytical solutions for the dynamic stiffness and flexibility are derived. In deriving the stiffness and flexibility, the spurious resonance is cancelled out. Numerical aspects are discussed and emphasized. The problem of numerical instability due to division by zero is avoided by choosing additional constraints from the information of real and imaginary parts in the dual formulation. For the overdetermined system, the least squares method is considered to determine the dynamic stiffness and flexibility. A general purpose program has been developed to test several examples including circular and square cases.

  • Epilepsy is one of the most prevalent neurological diseases. Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals are widely used for monitoring and diagnosis tool for epileptic seizure. Typically, a huge amount of EEG signals is needed, where they are visually examined by experienced clinicians. In this study, we propose a simple automatic seizure detection framework using intracranial EEG signals. We suggest a sparse approximation based classification (SAC) scheme by solving overdetermined system. L1-norm minimization algorithms are utilized for efficient sparse signal recovery. For evaluation of the proposed scheme, the public EEG dataset obtained by five healthy subjects and five epileptic patients is utilized. The results show that the proposed fast L1-norm minimization based SAC methods achieve the 99.5% classification accuracy which is 1% improved result than the conventional L2 norm based method with negligibly increased execution time (42msec).

  • In this paper, a recursive estimation algorithm for FIR systems is proposed using the 3rd and 4th order cumulants. To obtain the Overdetermined Recursive Instrumental Variable(ORIV) method type algorithm, we transform the 3'th and 4'th order cumulant relationship to a certain matrix form which is consist of only output data. From the matrix form, we induce the proposed algorithm procedure following the ORIV method. The proposed algorithm provides improved estimation accuracy with smaller data and can be applied to a time varying system as well. In addition, it reduces the estimation error due to the additive Gaussian noise compared to conventional 2'rd order based algorithms since it only uses higher than 2'rd order cumulant. Simulation results are presented to compare the performance with other HOS-based algorithms.

  • This paper presents a proper rational transfer function synthesis in the continuous time system from noisy measurements. The proposed method identifies the coefficients vector of the transfer function from an overdetermined linear system that develops from rearranging the two dimensional system matrices and output vectors obtained from the observed frequency responses. By computer simulation, the performance improvement is verified.

  • The signal can be modeled as a linear combination of its past values and present and past values of a hypothetical input to system whose output is given signal. Using this model spectral estimation problem can be reduced to estimate the ARMA parameters. This paper presents recursive modified instrumental variable algorithm which can estimate AR and MA parameters. For more accurate estimation, overdetermined modified IV algorithm is also derived. Computer simulations are presented to illustrate the above methods.

  • For camera calibration, this paper describes two steps to camera constants and camera parameters. The former is the radial distortion of lens, image center and focal length etc.. The latter is translation, rotation etc.. Camera calibration use tsai's algorithm. In this paper, the solutions are introduced into overdetermined system as matching points that are acquired from two CCD and measured object depth information.
