  • Initially, the word 'usage' in the rule of Korean orthography was used to indicate the whole grammatical knowledge to separate between stems and inflectional affixes and nominals and case markers. Nowadays the word 'usage' in the rule of Korean orthograph is understood to indicate both 'usage' as the principles of the orthographic rule and 'grammar.' Even though 'usage' and 'grammar' can be understood as two different words, the discrepancy between them is not clear. In fact, if examining the rule of Korean orthography, it is not difficult to find that the principles of the orthography is written based on the grammar rules. Thus, the original principle is damaged because the rule of Korean orthography depends on the grammar rules too much. In addition, the rule of Korean orthography forces to change the grammar rules when describing them. Incorrect description of the grammar rules often causes the spelling mistakes. Therefore, it is necessary to divide two areas such as 'usage' and 'grammar' when dealing with 'the orthographic rules' and describing them.

  • Orthographic views ore traditionally used for engineering drawings. This paper presents a methodology for 3D parametric design using orthographic views. The parametric design technique, which is used to design 2D orthographic views, is based on production rules. In the production rule-base, several view interrelation rules and over 50 geometric rules are included. An efficient algorithm is also developed to expedite the reasoning process. For 3D object construction from orthographic views, the approach known as bottom-up geometrical approach is used. The approach consists of 4 steps : 1) generation of wire-frame, 2) construction of face from wire frame, 3) formation of 3D subobjects from faces, and 4) construction of final 3D objects. Curvilinear solids as well as planar solids can be constructed. A method of converting existing 2D CAD data to parametric 3D CAD data is also presented.

  • As a basic step of interfacing CAD and CAM, it is required to convert thedrawing data into manufacturing information automatically. In this study the developed system carries out feature recognition from the orthographic views of press mold containing various pockets. Using rhe recognized output data, 3 dimension- al model is built using ADS and AME in order to check the result of recognition. The system consists of 4 main parts, suchas, Preprocessing, Coordinate handling, Feature recognition and 3D-modeling. The system shows a good application example which can interface the design and manufacturing stage in CAD/CAM system on PC level

  • In CAD/CAM system, many efforts are made to automate the converting process from drawling information to manufacturing Information. The most difficult step In this procedure is utilizing 2 dimensional drawing information In order to formulate 3 dimensional w&ling information. This paper emphasizes to mWe automatically series of convertirg steps which provide 3 dimensional wire frame, surface and solid modeling using feature recognition rules. With the standardization of design process and the recognition rule as preceding steps, it shows a good application tool to interface the design and manufacturing procedures in PC-Level CAD/CAM system.

  • Korean language is to be characterized by the rich vocal sound variation. In order to increase the probability of vocal sound recognition and to provide a natural vocal sound synthesis, a systematic and thorough research into the characteristics of Korean language including its vocal sound changing rules is required. This paper addresses an effective way of vocal sound recognition and synthesis by providing the design and implementation of the Korean vocal sound variation rule. The regulation we followed for the design of the vocal sound variation rule is the Phonetic Standard(Section 30. Chapter 7) of the Korean Orthographic Standards. We have first factor out rules for each regulations, then grouped them into 27 groups for eaeh final-consonant. The Phonological Change Processing System suggested in the paper provides a fast processing ability for vocal sound variation by a single application of the rule. The contents of the process for information augmented to words or the stem of innected words are included in the rules. We believe that the Phonological Change Processing System will facilitate the vocal sound recognition and synthesis by the sentence. Also, this system may be referred as an example for similar research areas.

  • Recognition of 3D objects using computer vision is complicated by the fact that geometric features vary with view orientation. An important factor in designing recognition algorithms in such situations is understanding the variation of certain critical features. The features selected in this paper are the angles between landmarks in a scene. In a class of polyhedral objects the angles at certain vertices may form a distinct and characteristic alignment of faces. For many other classes of objects it may be possible to identify distinctive spacial arrangements of some readily identifiable landmarks. In this paper given an isotropic view orientation and an orthographic projection the two dimensional joint density function of two angles in a scene is derived. Also the joint density of all defining angles of a polygon in an image is derived. The analytic expressions for the densities are useful in determining statistical decision rules to recognize surfaces and objects. Experiments to evaluate the usefulness of the proposed methods are reported. Results indicate that the method is useful and powerful.

  • This paper presents a feature recognition system for recognizing and extracting feature information needed for machining from design data contained in the CAD database of AutoCAD system. The developed system carries out feature recognition from an orthographic view of a press mold containing not only atomic features such as holes, pockets, and slots, but also compound features. Based on the result of feature recognition, it generates a 3-D modeling of the press mold. Especially, The feature recognition part is designed for detecting feature styles according to feature definition and classification, extracting parameters for various atomic features, and constructing necessary data structures for the recognized features.

  • A brief consultation of English Arabic dictionaries and encyclopedias shows that there is no one single standard Arabic translation of the English concept 'democracy'. Arab authors use, instead, a series of multiple terms that need clarification if the first term is to be clear. In many cases, they tend to localize the term into Arabic using various orthographic forms; at other times, they run a rather lengthy analysis to elucidate the concept that seems to be an essentially contested term. This paper aims to inquire into the reasons for the confusion and inconsistency in the translation of the concept 'democracy', as well as the underlying arguments for advocating the localization rather than translation of this political concept. This will be followed by a discussion of the implications of this study for lexicographers and translators. Given the fact that ideology is of non-Arabic origin, English perceptions of this fluid concept might help account for its lack of clarity in Arabic translations since Arabic is highly influenced by English in various spheres of life. It would thus be wise first to check the perceptivity of English authors of the concept. To better serve the purpose of this study, the author distinguishes here between 'translation' and so-called 'localization'. The term 'translation' is concerned with finding an existing term in the target language with an equivalent meaning for a foreign word, whereas localization involves taking the foreign term and making it linguistically and culturally appropriate to the target language, by subjecting it to the morphological and syntactic rules of Arabic to be used as if it were originally Arabic.
