A NETWORK MODEL FOR NAVAL OFFICER MANPOWER PLANNING

  • For a large organization such as a military service which can foresee future growths in its manpower requirements, a systematic tool that can provide analysis of its present manpower structure and policies in terms of meeting the future requirements, is in order today. This paper proposes a network model for such a purpose. The ROK Navy officer corps manpower system is studied and formulated as a network model, which may be expressed as a linear programming problem of minimizing total cost. An appropriate cost concept is developed and the out-of-kilter algorithm of Ford and Fulkerson is computer programmed to be used as a solution procedure for this network problem. A case study is conducted with a set of hypothetical data on a possible Navy combat-line specialty manpower problem.

Code Construction Methods for Error Discriminating and Unidirectional Error Control Codes

  • A new concept, namely the error discrimination of a code defined as the capability to not only detect errors from two distinct error sets but also to distinguish between them has been introduced in [SAKA 89a]. Consider $E_+\;and\;E_-$ as the two distinct error sets, namely the positive error set and the negative error set respectively. If a code C is not only capable of detecting any error e in {$E_+,\;E_-$}, but also able to identify the error set to which e belongs then the code is said to be an $E_+\;&\;E_-$ error discriminating code. The error discriminating property enables construction of unidirectional error detecting/correcting codes using asymmetric error control code. We derive here theory for asymmetric t error correcting and d error detecting codes. Furthermore, unidirectional error control code construction methods are introduced using asymmetric error control codes and $E_+\;&\;E_-$ error discriminating codes.

원시 이원 BCH 부호를 사용한 Algebraic-Coded Cryptosystem (Algebraic-Coded Cryptosystem Using Primitive Binary BCH Codes)

  • The concept of Algebraic-Coded Cryptosystem has been proposed recently but its application has not been developed yet. The primary object of this paper is to implement the Private-Key Algebraic-Coded Cryptosystem by using the primitive binary BCH codes. In the analysis of the cryptosystein, we find out the fact that there may exist other key pairs $S_i\;and\;P_i$ satisfying $G^*=S_{i},G_{s},P_{i}$ where $SG_{s}P$ is the original cryptosystem made by use of the systematic code generation matrix $G_{s}$.

항공사 수익경영모형에 관한 조사연구 (Survey on Revenue Management Models for Airlines)

  • The concept of revenue management (RM) has been used widely in the air-transportation industry, and proven as a good system for managing perishable assets. While the airlines are the oldest and most sophisticated users of RM, these practices have been an enormously important innovation in other service industries such as the travel, the railway, the internet and the manufacturing industries. In this paper, reviewing several studies on RM, we introduce the fundamental concepts and the major models of RM covering seat allocation with multiple fare classes and overbooking. Future research directions also are suggested.

  • We introduce a two-stage game theoretic model to support decision making processes for product Positioning and pricing in competitive environment. In the first stage, firms decide on entry and product position, in the second stage, firms compete with price. 'Alpha rule' is used as a choice model. Demand parameters of the choice model are estimated by conjoint analysis. We investigate conditions for the existence of Nash price equilibria in the pricing game. Nash equilibria in the entry and positioning game are produced using a concept of stable sets. An example of the online game industry in Korea is examined.

  • Dramatic development of information technology requires new type of sales strategy to enterprise S/W dealers. That is, one should thoroughly consider diversified types of enterprise S/W and more elaborated consumer needs to establish successful sales strategy. However, various factors that should be considered in establishing enterprise S/W sales strategy are different according to types of enterprise S/W and hard to be managed systematically which led to the current situation where they have not been discussed enough. Therefore, this study introduced the relationship between the factors that affect selection of enterprise S/W using the concept of cognitive map on various enterprise S/W sales cases. Through this process, this study grouped the cognitive maps of similar cases to introduce their characteristics and made this result to be practically useful to enterprise S/W sales strategy.

  • A research shows that a new category of software, Collaborative Product Commerce (CPC), is now emerging, allowing discrete manufacturers to once again distinguish themselves on their products and innovations. CPC permits discrete manufacturers to significantly improve the core processes around the management functions associated with the complete product life cycle that are the basis of their existence. As a way to develop computing tools of CPC to support a design process of product, a web-based design supporting system was constructed in the paper. The system consists of C-Product system and Net Meeting Communication system to improve communications between designers and persons for verification of design. The product data files of C-Product system were designed by Pro/Engineer and converted to 3D Viewer format for being used in the web browser. Also, Net Meeting Communication system and Database were developed using ASP and Microsoft SQL 2000 Server to share diverse files that can be utilized to design on the web in real time.

  • In order to quickly respond to the rapidly changing manufacturing environment, it is imperative for the system to have such capabilities as flexibility, adaptability, reusability, etc. One of the promising approaches for new manufacturing paradigm satisfying those capabilities is the fractal manufacturing system (FrMS). FrMS is based on the concept of autonomously cooperating and self-reconfigurable agents referred to as fractals. In this paper, a fractal template is proposed to have both fractal-specific and agent-specific characteristics and proper techniques for implementation are also selected. The proposed template can be easily extended to the platform of FrMS which supports simulation, shop flow control, and other research issues existed in the manufacturing systems. An example of applying the proposed template to the simulation is also presented.

  • Although it is not easy to generate EC's (Engineering Characteristics), there have been few studies so far. In this paper, a systematic method for generating EC candidates is proposed. This method use the concept of 'attribute listing'. In the proposed method, customer attributes are divided into their objects and issues. And attributes from their objects and issues are generated by help of guidelines proposed, respectively. Then, measurable metrics are attained from those attributes. Finally, the metrics result in EC candidates by consistency and redundancy check. This paper gives an illustrative example for easy comprehension of the proposed method.

  • This research aims to develop a procedure that help transform user's feelings or images of a product into the product's design elements. Current approach of product design has focused on providing proper functions of the product. However, as the users' needs get more diversified, it is necessary to accommodate the users' sensitive requirements in product design. The concept called Human Sensibility Ergonomics(HSE). In implementing the HSE, first, it has been surveyed the users' requirements through questionnaires or interviews. Next, has been analyzed the collected data using various statistical analysis technique, resulting in identification of the users' feelings or images of the products.
