  • Code and object reuse is big concern for fast and efficient Virtual Reality (VR) system development. Many VR packages offer reasonably nice abstractions for various functionalities. That is, software reuse at the functional level is well practiced. Many geometry models are rarely used for main \"characters\" but mostly for incidental and decorative objects. This is because the main \"character\" objects usually exhibit certain behavior incompatible with the way the geometric model is organized. Kim has made a clear distinction between form, function and behavior[1]. This naturally lends to a reuse method at the level form, function and behavior.nction and behavior.

  • In general, in order to recognize and modelling the 3-D object, it is necessary to have the method to express the shape of 3-D object. In case of 2-D like silhouette image, the extraction of vertex on the boundary of the object can be obtained by using the 2-D curvature function. But, in case of 3-D curvature function that can calculate the surface curvature values of 3-d object doesn't exist, it is difficult to express the share of 3-D object. Therefore, in this paper, a new method is presented. With this presented method, the approximated surface curvature values and vertex of 3-D object can be obtained effectively using the principle of 2-D curvature and the least square method.

Modified energy function of the active contour model for the tracking of deformable objects

  • An active contour model has been used to detect the edges in a still image. In order to apply the active contour model to edge detection, the energy function which consists of internal, external and image energies should be defined. After defining the energy function, the edge of an object is detected through minimization of the value of the energy function. In this paper, the modified internal energy function is proposed to improve the convergence of the energy function when the active contour model is applied to the tracking of deformable objects using the greedy algorithm. In order to show the performance of the proposed energy function, experiments were carried out for the still and animated images.

  • In this paper, we describe the new unsuperivised learning algorithm, SASOM. It can solve the defects of the conventional SOM that the state of network can't converge to the minimum point. The proposed algorithm uses the object function which can evaluate the state of network in learning and adjusts the learning rate flexibly according to the evaluation of the object function. We implement the simulated annealing which is applied to the conventional network using the object function and the learning rate. Finally, the proposed algorithm can make the state of network converged to the global minimum. Using the two-dimensional input vectors with uniform distribution, we graphically compared the ordering ability of SOM with that of SASOM. We carried out the recognitioin on the new algorithm for all Korean phonemes and some continuous speech.

  • In this paper, in order to reduce the cogging torque in a permanent motor, a method to optimize the shape of permanent magnet and iron pole is presented. Because the cogging torque comes from the irregular system energy variation according to the rotor position, system energy variation is taken as object function and the object function is minimized to optimize the shape. The positions of permanent magnet surface and iron pole surface are chosen as design parameters and sensitivity of object function with respect to design parameter is calculated. The shape is changed according to sensitivity. Sensitivity can be generated by methods that exploit the FEM formulation. A numerical example shows that about 90% of the original cogging torque is reduced.

  • In this paper some modifications for Lu's inverse method of fairing process are presented. The object function is changed and additional constraints for hull curve foiling is proposed. The newly introduced minimizing object function is the sum of the distances between the two curve's positions at the same parameter values instead of the sum of the distances between two vertices. The new one is better to represent the physical meaning of the object function, the smaller differences between two curves. In ship hull fairing the end tangent of curve has to be fined in some cases, so the additional constraint is considered to preserve the direction of end tangent. The sample results are shown.

  • Computer simulations were conducted to demonstrate the generation of microwave-induced thermoacoustic signal. The simulations began with modelling an object with a biological tissue characteristic and irradiating it with a microwave pulse. The time-varying heating function data at every particular point on the illuminated object were obtained from absorbed electric field data from the simulation result. The thermoacoustic signal received at a point transducer at a particular distance from the object was generated by applying heating function data to the thermoacoustic equation. These simulations can be used as a foundation for understanding how thermoacoustic signal is generated and can be applied as a basis for thermoacoustic imaging simulations and experiments in future research.

  • The partitioning of related objects should be performed before clustering for an efficient access in object-oriented databases. In this paper, a horizontal partition of related objects in object-oriented databases is presented. All subclass nodes in a class inheritance hierarchy of a schema graph are shrunk to a class node in the graph that is called condensed schema graph because the aggregation hierarchy has more influence on the partition than the class inheritance hierarchy. A set function and an accessibility function are defined to find a maximal subset of related objects among the set of objects in a class. A set function maps a subset of the domain class objects to a subset of the range class objects. An accessibility function maps a subset of the objects of a class into a subset of the objects of the same class through a composition of set functions. The algorithm derived in this paper is to find the related objects of a condensed schema graph using accessibility functions and set functions. The existence of a maximal subset of the related objects in a class is proved to show the validity of the partition algorithm using the accessibility function.

  • The use electron-beam(E-beam) manufacturing system provides a means to alleviate optic exposure equipment's problems. We are developing an E-beam manufacturing system with scanning electron microscope(SEM) function. The E-beam manufacturing system consist of high voltage generator, beam blanker, condenser lenses, object lenses, stigmator and stage. The development of E-beam manufacturing system is used on the method of remaking SEM's structure. The functions of SEM are developed. It is important for the test of E-beam performance. In E-beam manufacturing system and SEM, beam focus is important function. In this paper, we propose intelligent remote control function for beam focus in E-beam manufacturing system. The function extends the user's function and gives convenience.
