  • In this study, we propose a two degree of freedom robust output tracking control method for a class of nonlinear system. We consider hyperbolically nonminimum phase single-input single-output uncertain nonlinear systems. We also consider the case that the nominal input-state equation is differentially flat. Nominal stable state trajectory is obtained in the flat output space via the flat output. Nominal feedforward control input is also computed from the nominal state trajectory. Due to the nature of the method, the generated flat output trajectory and control input are noncausal. Robust feedback control is designed to stabilize the systems around the nominal trajectory. A numerical example is given is given to demonstrate that robust tracking is achieved.

  • A manipulator system that needs significantly large workspace volume and high payload capacity has greater link flexibility than typical industrial robots and teleoperators. If link flexibility is significant, position control of the manipulator's end-effector exhibits the nonminimum phase, noncollocated, and flexible structure system control problems. This paper addresses inverse dynamic trajectory planning issues of a flexible manipulator. The inverse dynamic equation of a flexible manipulator was solved in the time domain. By dividing the inverse system equation into the causal part and the anticausal part, the inverse dynamic method calculates the feedforward torque and the trajectories of all state variables that do not excite structural vibrations for a given end-point trajectory. Through simulation and experiment with a single-Unk flexible manipulator, the effectiveness of the inverse dynamic method has been demonstrated.

  • Tracking control of an arbitrary reference has been discussed for 7Th order 2-input 2-output non-minimum phase EGR/VGT diesel engines. To meet strict emission regulations and customer demands, the desired set points, the air-fuel ratio and the ERG flow fraction, determined from a static engine data based on engine speed and the desired fueling rate are transformed into the set points for the two sensor measurement outputs. Applying the sliding mode tracking control theory proposed by Jeong and Utkin, two step design was carried out using the bounded solution of an unstable zero dynamics for the given reference signals. This paper shows through simulations how stabilization of unstable zero dynamics and reference tracking can be accomplished simultaneously.

  • In this paper, we present a fuzzy logic based tuner for continuous on-line tuning of PID controllers. The essential idea of the scheme is to parameterize a Ziegler-Nichols-like tuning formula by a singler parameter .alpha., then to use an on line fuzzy logic to self-tune the parameter. The adaptive scaling makes the controller robust against large variations in parametric and dynamics uncertainties in the plant model. New self-tuning controller has the ability to decide when to use PI or PID control by extracting process dynamics from relay experiments. These scheme lead to improved performance of the transient and steady state behavior of the closed loop system, including processes with nonminimum phase processes.

  • This paper concerns a discrete time control of noncolocated flexible mechanical systems by using time delay relation. A stability criterion of closed-loop system is derived in discrete time domain and a graphic method is developed for designing controllers. Based on this method, a derivative controller is designed for a simply supported uniform beam in the cases of colocation without time delay and of noncolocation with time delay. Some simulation results show the effectiveness of the suggested control.

  • In this paper, we present a simple auto-tuning PID controller using genetic algorithms. The basic idea of the scheme is to parameterize a Ziegler-Nichols-like tuning formula by a single parameter ${\alpha}$, then to use GA to select optimal tuning parameter. Also, simple rule mechanisms make the controller adapt against large variations in parametric and dynamics uncertainties in the plant. These scheme lead to improved performance of the transient and steady state behavior of the closed loop system, including processes with long delay-time and nonminimum phase systems.

  • In this work, we propose a modeling method based on an artifical intelligence technique for a stem generator in a nuclear power plant. Modeling the steam generator is known to be difficult due to several facts; especially, the dynamics of the steam generator is nonminimum phase which is mainly caused by the swell and shrink phenomena from thermal effects. In order to overcome this difficulty, we adopt so-called logic processor whose structure itself has a logical meaning to be easily established and also efficiently learned. Such a manner, we could derive an useful model simulating the dynamics of the steam generator in a nuclear power plant.

  • This paper discusses the maintenance of the water level of steam generators at its programmed value. The process, the water level of a steam generator, has the nonminimum phase property. So, it causes a reverse dynamics called a swell and shrink phenomenon. This phenomenon is severe in a low power condition below 15 %, in turn makes the start-up of the power plant too difficult. The control algorithm used here incorporates a pole-assignment scheme into the minimum variance strategy and we use a parallel adaptation algorithm for the parameter estimation, which is robust to noises. As a result, the total control system can keep the water level constant during full power by locating closed-loop poles appropriately, although the process has the characteristics of high complexity and nonlinearity. Also, the extra perturbation signals are added to the input signal such that the control system guarantee persistently exciting. In order to confirm the control performance of a proposed pole-assignment self-tuning controller we perform a computer simulation in full power range.

  • The development of adaptive control algorithms for possibly nonminimum phase systems has been hampered by singularities that may arise in the control law. To solve this problem, one securing convergence of the estimates to their true values by inducing persistency of excitation in the plant signals using direct adaptive control method and indirect adaptive control method, and another in which the estimates are adequately modified to meet the controllability requirements using indirect adaptive control method, without persistency of excitation. This paper presents an adaptive scheme that achieves regulation without persistent excitation condition using direct adaptive control method and reduces estimation algorithms with direct estimation of controller parameters without estimation of plant parameters.
