Effects of viscous damping models on a single-layer latticed dome during earthquakes

  • Rayleigh damping model is recommended in the recently developed Performance-Based Earthquake Engineering (PBEE) methodology, but this methodology does not provide sufficient information due to the complexity of the damping mechanism. Furthermore, each Rayleigh-type damping model may have its individual limitations. In this study, Rayleigh-type damping models that are used widely in engineering practice are discussed. The seismic performance of a large-span single-layer latticed dome subjected to earthquake ground motions is investigated using different Rayleigh damping models. Herein a simulation technique is developed considering low cycle fatigue (LCF) in steel material. In the simulation technique, Ramberg-Osgood steel material model with the low cycle fatigue effect is used to simulate the non-uniformly distributed material damping and low cycle fatigue damage in the structure. Subsequently, the damping forces of the structure generated by different damping models are compared and discussed; the effects of the damping ratio and roof load on the damping forces are evaluated. Finally, the low cycle fatigue damage values in sections of members are given using these damping models. Through a comparative analysis, an appropriate Rayleigh-type damping model used for a large span single-layer latticed dome subjected to earthquake ground motions is determined in terms of the existing damping models.

  • 자동차 전장 시스템에는 여러 개의 전자 제어 장치에 시간 제약성을 갖는 다수의 응용프로그램들이 탑재되어 안전하게 수행될 수 있는 방법이 제공 되어야 한다. 본 논문은 자동차 전장용 실시간 운영체제 규격인 AUTOSAR에서 실시간성 태스크의 스케줄링시에 각 태스크의 마감시간을 준수할 수 있는 효율적인 스케줄링 기법은 제시하고, 타이밍 보호 메커니즘을 적용하는 방안을 제안한다. 고정 우선 순위나 동적 우선순위 태스크의 유연한 마감 시간 보장하기 위한 동적 비선점 알고리즘과, 오류 발생에 대한 실행 시간 모니터링 가능 위치를 제시하고, AUTOSAR 타임 보호 매커니즘 구현 방안을 제시하였다.

Assessment and Correlation of Saline Soil Characteristics using Electrical Resistivity

  • Soil salinity is becoming one of the most devastating environmental hazards over the years. Soil investigation involves fast, low cost and non disturbing methods to measure soil characteristics for both construction projects as well as for agricultural use. The electrical resistivity of saline soils is greatly governed by salt concentration and the presence of moisture in soil matrix. Experimental results of this investigation highlight that there is a significant relationship between the electrical resistivity of soil samples mixed with chloride solutions (NaCl, KCl, and MgCl2) at various concentrations, and soil physical properties. Correlations represented by quadratic functions were obtained between electrical resistivity and soil characteristics, namely, water content, degree of saturation and salt concentration. This research reveals that the obtained correlations between electrical resistivity, salt concentration, water content and degree of saturation are effective for predicting the characteristics of salt affected soils in practice, which constitute a governing element in the assessment of saline lands sustaining infrastructure.

Low Non-NMDA Receptor Current Density as Possible Protection Mechanism from Neurotoxicity of Circulating Glutamate on Subfornical Organ Neurons in Rats

  • The subfornical organ (SFO) is one of circumventricular organs characterized by the lack of a normal blood brain barrier. The SFO neurons are exposed to circulating glutamate ($60{\sim}100{\mu}M$), which may cause excitotoxicity in the central nervous system. However, it remains unclear how SFO neurons are protected from excitotoxicity caused by circulating glutamate. In this study, we compared the glutamate-induced whole cell currents in SFO neurons to those in hippocampal CA1 neurons using the patch clamp technique in brain slice. Glutamate ($100{\mu}M$) induced an inward current in both SFO and hippocampal CA1 neurons. The density of glutamate-induced current in SFO neurons was significantly smaller than that in hippocampal CA1 neurons (0.55 vs. 2.07 pA/pF, p<0.05). To further identify the subtype of the glutamate receptors involved, the whole cell currents induced by selective agonists were then compared. The current densities induced by AMPA (0.45 pA/pF) and kainate (0.83 pA/pF), non-NMDA glutamate receptor agonists in SFO neurons were also smaller than those in hippocampal CA1 neurons (2.44 pA/pF for AMPA, p<0.05; 2.34 pA/pF for kainate, p< 0.05). However, the current density by NMDA in SFO neurons was not significantly different from that of hippocampal CA1 neurons (1.58 vs. 1.47 pA/pF, p>0.05). These results demonstrate that glutamate-mediated action through non-NMDA glutamate receptors in SFO neurons is smaller than that of hippocampal CA1 neurons, suggesting a possible protection mechanism from excitotoxicity by circulating glutamate in SFO neurons.

무독성 호안블록의 수리학적 안정성에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on Hydraulic Stability of Non-toxic Revetment Block)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 국내 하천 복원의 자연친화적인 설계를 위한 무독성 호안공법의 수리적 안정성을 검토하는 것이다. 최근 들어 공학적 효율 위주의 치수 기능만을 위한 하천관리 정책에서 벗어나 하천의 환경적 기능의 개선을 위한 생태하천 복원사업이 이루어지고 있다. 그러나 신규 호안공법에 대한 부적절한 수리학적 설계기준이 자주 홍수기 경제적 손실을 유발하고 있다. 사석 및 블록의 안정성에 관한 연구는 크게 하천에서 제방, 하상보호, 세굴방지 등의 목적과 바다에서 호안 또는 방조제의 축조에 따라 투하하는 사석의 안정성에 기초를 둔 연구가 대부분이며 경험식으로 이루어져 있다. 본 연구에서는 최고 유속 3.5 m/s인 고속수로를 제작하여 수리실험을 수행하였으며, 무독성 접착제를 이용한 블록공법에 대한 다양한 조건의 수리실험을 통해서 수리적 안정성을 위한 호안블록의 한계유속을 구하였다.

몬테칼로 전산모사를 이용한 복합 G-M 계수기 불감시간 모형의 계측 통계 연구 (A Study on Counting Statistics of the Hybrid G-M Counter Dead Time Model Using Monte Carlo Simulations)

  • 고계수율 환경에서의 G-M 계수기의 가용 범위를 확장하기 위하여 두 가지 불감시간(연장가능 및 연장불능)을 채택한 복합 모형이 개발되었으며, 이 복합모형 참 계수율과 실측 계수율간의 상관관계를 보다 정확히 설명한다. 이 논문에서는 몬테칼로 모사법에 근거한 G-M 계수기 불감효과 분석 프로그램 GMSIM을 개발하여 연장가능 불감시간 모형 및 연장불능 불감시간 모형에 적용하여 그 정확도를 확인하였다. GMSIM을 이용하여 복합 불감시간 모형을 따르는 G-M 계수기의 계수 통계 특성을 분석한 결과, 두 가지 이상적 모형의 중간적 특성을 보였다. 향후 GMSIM은 세 가지 모형의 불감시간 특성을 분석하는데 사용될 수 있다.

M / W 무선국에 미치는 비정지궤도 이동위성 시스템의 전파간섭 분석 (An Analysis on the RFI of Non-GSO/MSS System into M/W Radio Stations)

  • 본 연구는 이동위성 통신시스댐이 M/W무선국에 미치는 전파간섭 분석올 2가지 측면에서 시행한 연구이다. 하나는 비정지궤도 이동위성의 PFD(Power Flux Density) 레벨에 의한 M/W 무선국에 수신되는 간섭량올 구하여 ITU-R SF.357에 규정된 기준치와 비교하였으며, 다른 방볍에서는 기존의 고정서비스간의 간섭분석에 이용되는 C/I 값을 구해 간섭 보호비를 초과하는 시간율 및 초과지속시간에 대한 평가를 행하였다. 그 결과로서 이동위성 통신시스템 및 M/W 무선국 패러미터틀을 변화시켜도 PFD 레벨에 의한 간섭량은 어느 경우나 기준 치를 초과하지 않았다. 또한 이라듐 시스템이 한 M/W 무선국 루트에 미치는 간섭영향은 간섭 보호비 초과시간율이 32 %로 장시간인 반면, 글로벌스타 시스템인 경우는 초과시간율이 1.71 %로 아주 짧은 시간동안만 간섭보 호비를 초과하였음을 알았다.

시중에 판매되는 다양한 비인증 마스크의 분진 포집효율과 안면부 흡기저항 평가 (Evaluation of the Filtration Efficiency and Facial Inhalation Resistance of Various Commercial Masks)

  • Objectives: Wearing medical masks has been recommended since the declaration of coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) as a pandemic disease. Certified medical masks are evaluated according to filtration efficiency and facial inhalation resistance. However, some people use non-certified common masks. This study aimed to evaluate various non-certified commercial masks based on the certification criteria for medical masks. Methods: Twenty mask products (three anti-droplet, three disposable dental, eight fashion, three cotton, and three children's masks) were selected. For performance evaluation, filtration efficiency and facial inhalation resistance tests were conducted. The evaluation method followed the certification method for KF-certified masks of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) and the N95 respirator of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Results: None of the 20 masks met the KF94 certification standard set by the MFDS. Four and three masks respectively met the KF80 certification standard and the N95 standard of NIOSH. Filtration efficiency was significantly higher in three-layer masks than in single layer masks. Pleated-type masks had higher filtration efficiency than cone-type masks. There was no correlation between the structure of masks and facial inhalation resistance. Conclusion: While no masks complied with the KF94 certification standard, a few masks met the KF80 and the N95 certification standards of NIOSH. Although some people wear non-certified commercial masks, protection from aerosols is not guaranteed by such masks. Evaluation of the protection efficiency of non-certified mask against microbiological infection is needed for the prevention of infectious disease.
