  • In this paper, we study the correlation between the crystallinity of semiconductive compounds for eco-friendly power cables and the dispersive properties of carbon black. The crystal structure of the polymer material is advantageous for mechanical properties and heat-resistance. However, the polymer acts as an inhibitor to the dispersibility of carbon black. The purpose of this study is to develop a TPE semiconductive compound technology. The high heat resistance and ultra-smoothness characteristics which are required for high voltage and ultra-high voltage cables should be satisfied by designing and optimizing the structure of a non-crosslinking-type eco-friendly TPE semiconductive compound. The application of excess TPE resin was found to not only inhibit the processability in the compounding process, but also reduced the dispersion properties of carbon black due to higher crystallinity. After the crystallinity of the compound was identified through DSC analysis, it was compared with the related dispersion characteristics. Through this analysis and comparison, we designed the optimal structure of the eco-friendly TPE semiconductive compound.

  • The nickel-based alloy Nimonic 80A possesses strength, and corrosion, creep and oxidation resistance at high temperature. The exhaust valves of low speed diesel engines are usually operated at temperature levels of 400-$600^{\circ}C$ and high pressure to enhance thermal efficiency and exposed to the corrosion atmosphere by the exhaust gas. Also, the exhaust valve is subjected to repeated thermal and mechanical loads. So, the nickel-based alloy Nimonic 80A was used for the large exhaust valve spindle. It is composed a 540mm diameter head and a 125mm diameter stem. It is developed large products by hot closed-die forging. Manufacturing process analysis of the large exhaust valve spindle was simulated by closed die forging with hydraulic press and cooled in air after forging. The preform was heated to $1080^{\circ}C$ Numerical calculation was performed by DEFORM-2D, a commercial finite element code. Heat transfer can be coupled with the deformation analysis in a non-isothermal deformation analysis. Mechanical properties of the large exhaust valve spindle were evaluated by the variety of tests, including microstructure observation, tensile, as well as hardness and fatigue tests, were conducted to evaluate the mechanical properties for head part of exhaust valve spindle.

Al85Ce5Ni10 비정질 리본의 결정화 거동에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Crystallization Behavior of Al85Ce5Ni10 Amorphous Ribbon)

  • Since amorphous alloys have been known to have better mechanical and chemical properties than crystalline alloys of the same composition, a great number of studies on the formation of Al-based amorphous alloys have been carried out actively. However, little has been obtained about the effect of Rare-Earth metal and Transition metal addition on amorphous phase formed by melt spinning method. This study included fabrication of amorphous alloy $Al_{85}Ce_5Ni_{10}$ by melt spinning methods and DTA, XRD, TEM analysis to determine crystalization behavoir. Annealing treatments were carried out in Ar atmosphere under isothermal and nonisothermal conditions. The diffraction pattern of non-heated ribbons showed broad form characteristic of glass metallic alloy. The crystallization of amorphous $Al_{85}Ce_5Ni_{10}$ takes place eutedtoidly by homogeneous formation of Al and MS-1, followed by precipitation of the $Al_{11}Ce_3$ and later $MS-1{\rightarrow}Al_3Ni$ transformation.

Three-dimensional numerical simulation for the prediction of product shape in sheet casting process

  • Prediction of the product shape in sheet casting process is performed from the numerical simulation. A three-dimensional finite element method is used to investigate the flow behavior and to examine the effects of processing conditions on the sheet produced. Effects of inertia, gravity, surface tension and non-Newtonian viscosity on the thickness profile of the sheet are considered since the edge bead and the flow patterns in the chill roll region have great influence on the quality of the products. In the numerical simulation with free surface flows, the spine method is adopted to update the free surface, and the force-free boundary condition is imposed along the take-up plane to avoid severe singularity problems existing at the take-up plane. From the numerical results of steady isothermal flows of a generalized Newtonian fluid, it is shown that the draw ratio plays a major role in predicting the shape of the final sheet produced and the surface tension has considerable effect on the bead thickness ratio and the bead width fraction, while shear-thinning and/or tension-thickening viscosity affect the degree of neck-in.

소량의 기포를 함유한 이상유체 내에서의 압력파의 전파현상 (Pressure Wave Propagation Phenomena in Water Containing Uniformly Distributed Gas Bubbles)

  • 기포 혼합 유체 내에서의 압력파의 전파 현상을 수치해석으로 연구한다. 혼합 유체 영역을 지배하는 지배 방정식을 heuristic 한 방법으로 유도하고 기포 내부 영역에는 열전달 효과를 고려할 수 있도록 에너지 방정식을 도입한다. 기포 내부의 비등온 조건은 특히 기포가 고진폭을 가지고 진동할 때 매우 중요하다. 기포 역학 방정식으로서 Keller 방정식이 채택, 변형되어 기포 외부와 내부의 coupling을 맺어준다. 실제 문제로서 충격관내 충격파의 전파 현상을 수치해석 방법으로 해석한 결과가 Noordzij 및 van Wijngaarden 의 실험 결과와 거의 일치한다. 그러나 그들에 의해 설명된 충격파 구조의 변화 원인은 가스와 액체 간의 상대 운동인데 이는 본 모델에서 고려되지 않았기 때문에 가스와 액체 간의 열전달에 의해 충격파의 구조가 변화된다고 보는 것이 타당하다.

  • In order to examine the springback amount and material properties of aluminum alloy sheets (AL1050 and AL5052) in the warm forming which forms the sheet above the room temperature, the stretch bending and draw bending tests and tensile test in various high temperatures are carried out. The warm forming temperature 15$0^{\circ}C$ is a transition in terms of the material properties: over the forming temperature 15$0^{\circ}C$, them $\sigma$$_{YS}$ , $\sigma$$_{TS}$ , E, K, n, etc. are bigger but $\varepsilon$ and plastic strain ratio are smaller. Below the forming temperature 15$0^{\circ}C$, there are no big differences in material properties as the forming temperature changes. AL5052 sheet has more springback effect than AL1050 sheet. While the springbacks of AL5052 and AL1050 sheets show a big reduction over the warm forming temperature 15$0^{\circ}C$ in the stretch bending test, the springback rapidly reduces in the warm forming temperature 15$0^{\circ}C$-20$0^{\circ}C$ for AL5052 sheet and 20$0^{\circ}C$-25$0^{\circ}C$ for AL1050 sheet in the draw bending test.

Hermite 유동함수법에 의한 자연대류 유동 계산 (Computations of Natural Convection Flow Using Hermite Stream Function Method)

  • This paper is a continuation of the recent development on Hermite-based divergence free element method and deals with a non-isothermal fluid flow thru the buoyancy driven flow in a square enclosure with temperature difference across the two sides. The basis functions for the velocity field consist of the Hermite function and its curl while the basis functions for the temperature field consists of the Hermite function and its gradients. Hence, the number of degrees of freedom at a node becomes 6, which are the stream function, two velocities, the temperature and its x and y derivatives. This paper presents numerical results for Ra = 105, and compares with those from a stabilized finite element method developed by Illinca et al. (2000). The comparison has been done on 32 by 32 uniform elements and the degree of approximation of elements used for the stabilized finite element are linear (Deg. 1) and quadratic (Deg. 2). The numerical results from both methods show well agreements with those of De vahl Davi (1983).

  • Thermal cracking is commonly modeled as plug flow reaction, neglecting the lateral gradients present. In this paper, 2-dimensional computational fluid dynamics including turbulence model and molecular reaction scheme are carried out. This simulation is solved by means of coupled implicit scheme for stable convergence of solution. The reactor is modeled as an isothermal tube, whose length is 1.2 m and radius is 0.01 m, respectively. At first, The radial profile of velocity and temperature at each point are predicted in its condition. Then the bulk temperature and conversion curve along the axial direction are compared with other published data to identify the reason why discussed variations of properties are important to product yield. Finally, defining a new non-dimensional number, Effect of interaction with turbulence, heat transfer and chemical reaction are discussed for design of thermal cracking furnace.

압축성을 고려한 사출성형 충전과정에 관한 연구 (Analysis of Filling in Injection Molding with Compressibility)

  • In this study, the compressibility of resin was considered in filling analysis to account for the possible packing type flow. A numerical simulation program employing a hybrid finite element/finite difference scheme was developed to solve Hele-Shaw flow of the compressible viscous fluid at non-isothermal conditions. To advance the melt front, a control volume approach was adopted. Thin complex 3-D shapes of cavities, runners, and sprues were discretized by employing triangular, cylindrical and/or rectangular strip elements. Mass conservation was applied to each control volume to solve for the pressure distribution. Directly applying a constant mass flow rate at the inlet removes calculation of the apparent pressure boundary conditions, resulting in better simulation condition. The Cross model was used to model viscosity and the Tait equation was employed to represent density as a function of temperature and pressure. The validity of the developed program was verified through comparisons with available data in the literature and the effect of compressibility on the pressure distribution was discussed. To reduce computation time, 1-D and 2-D elements were used instead of applying triangular elements and the numerical results were compared to each other.

판재 전단 가공에서 금형의 마멸 해석 (Analysis of Tool Wear in Sheet Metal Shearing)

  • In this paper the technique to predict tool were theoretically in the sheet metal shearing process is suggested. The were in sheet metal tool affects the tolerances of final parts, metal flows and costs of processes. In order to predict the tool were the deformation of workpiece during the process is analyzed by using non-isothermal finite element program. The ductile fracture criterion and the element kill method are also used to estimate if and where a fracture will occur and to investigate the features of the sheared surface in shearing process. Results obtained form finite element simulation such as node velocities and node forces are transformed into sliding velocity and normal pressure on tool monitoring points respectively. The monitoring points are automatically generated and the were rates on these points are accumulated during a process. It is assumed that the wear depth on the tool surface are linear function of the lot sizes based upon the known experimental results. The influence of clearance between die and punch upon tool wear is were is also discussed during the process.
