  • Numerical analysis is conducted on the deformation of free surface of magnetic fluid. Steady magnetic fields are induced by a circular current loop. Governing equations of magnetic fields are solved by using the concept of vector potential. The free surface of magnetic fluid is formed by the balance of surface force, gravity, pressure difference, magnetic normal pressure and magnetic body force. The deformations of free surface of magnetic fluid are qualitatively clarified. And, the patterns of steady non-uniform magnetic fields induced by a circular current loop are quantitatively presented.

  • This paper describes two FMS, which were developed by SAEIL Heavy Industries. One is FMS for machining of circular parts, that are automobile's axle shafts. This system consists of 13units, including 7CNC machine tools. The other is RMS for machining of non- circular parts namely casted or steel block within size of 1.2${\times}$1.2${\times}$1.5m. This FMS consists of 8-machining centers, 1-automated werehouse, 2,-unmanned Robo Trailers, and computer control room. All systems are functioning satisfactorily and so help greately towards automation of Korean industries.

  • The state-of-the-practice design expressions currently used for the calculation of shear strength of concrete columns due to circular transverse hoop steel were reviewed. From this, it was found that the single valued constant effective section area of shear steel to be conservative in some degree that concrete sections built in non-seismic regions. A general expression as n alternative was suggested considering the wide range of section configurations. The theoretical prediction was validated through the experimental observations.

  • Suppose that D is a domain in the extended complex plane $\overline{C} = C \cup {\infty}$. For each $z_0 \in C$ and $C < r < \infty$, we let $B(z_0, r) = {z \in C : $\mid$z - z_0$\mid$ < r}$ and $S(z_0, r) = \partial B(z_0, r)$. For non-empty sets A, $B \subset \overling{C}$, diam (A) is the diameter of A and d(A, B) is the distance of A and B.

  • Oval gears are typical kinds of non-circular gears and are widely used in flow meters. This paper presents a tooth profile design of an oval gear according to the curvature of the pitch curve. The length of the pitch oval is divided by the number of teeth and the curvature of the divided points is obtained. The tooth profile is designed on the circle of the curvature as if it is the pitch circle of a gear. The teeth of the oval gear have the same module and pressure angle, but the pitch circle of each tooth differs in size. Thus, the teeth on the divided points of the pitch oval are different in shape. This type of oval gear will improve the meshing properties.

  • A fineness range of 150 Nm-170 Nm has recently been applied to produce much finer wool products, so that processing techniques for the wool fabrics have been developed very rapidly. However, the worsted wool-like technique using polyester fiber has not been still implemented in general processing technique. Therefore, this research is to develop materials of side-by-side type with high finess, high shrinkage and stretchability. The mechanical properties of the produced fabrics were analyzed and the fundamental information were obtained for the new worsted wool-like products. The physical properties of a latent crimped yarns of side-by-side type with stretch function are analyzed. Also the mechanical properties of five kinds of fabrics are analyzed, which are produced with non-circular shape(+type) warp yarns of a twist of 1000(T/M) and with two kinds of latent weft yarns of a twist of 1000 T/M and DTY respectively.

  • This paper is concerned with an experimental study on structural behavior of Concrete-Filled Circular Tubular(CFCT) column to H-beam connections. The important parameters are the number of inner reinforced rib and the width of H-beam flange(100, 150, 200mm) with variable column thickness(5.8mm, 9.2mm, 12.5mm) around the joint between CFCT and H-beam. Test results are summarized for the displacement, strength, initial stiffness, failure mode and energy absorption capacity of each specimen. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the initial stiffness and the strength of connections to evaluate the structural behavior of the CFCT column to H-beam connections. From the discussion about the test results, the basic data for non diaphragm connection design would be suggested.

  • This paper describes a design for a spiral antenna with a conical wall to obtain the high gain. The gain and the axial ratio of the spiral antenna were improved by a new design that included a conical wall and an optimized Archimedean slit on the ground plane in a conventional antenna with a circular cavity wall and a 4.5-turn slit. A gain improvement of 9.5 dBi higher and a good axial ratio of 1.9 dB lower were measured by the added conical wall and the newly designed slit from the current distribution control on the ground plane, respectively. The measured return loss, gain and axial ratio of the proposed antenna showed a good agreement with the simulated results. The proposed antenna will be applied to a non-linear junction detector system.

  • The present numerical study investigates heat transfer enhancement mechanism for suspensions of polystyrene particles in water. Numerical simulations were done for turbulent hydrodynamic fully developed flows in a circular duct with constant wall heat flux. The experimental result of microparticle suspensions show 25∼45% heat transfer enhancement over those of water. The present numerical results show the main parameter for the heat transfer enhancement of microparticle suspension in a circular duct is the change of velocity profile by the non-Newtonian fluid behavior.
