A Study for the Effect of Sound Absorbing Materials in the Tunnel (터널내의 흡음재 부착 효과 연구)

  • Todays, according to development of traffics, there are so many tunnels around us. Tunnels are used for trains, subway trains, cars, etc. Especially for subway, all of its routes are tunnels. So the noise of the subway train cannot radiated out of the station and the noise level in the station and train cabin is so high. There are some methods to reduce this noise and one of them is using absorbing materials. But the area of the tunnel and station is very large, so it is important to determine the effective position and amount of absorbing materials before attaching them. In this study, we studied the effect of sound absorbing materials in the tunnel using boundary element method. We applied BEM for general boundary conditions. With BEM calculations, we found the effect of absorbing materials and effective positions for the subway tunnel and station.

Protective Effect of Diallyl disulfide(DADS) from Garlic Extract on Noise Induced Hearing Loss in the Guinea pigs (소음으로 인한 청력소실에 대한 마늘 추출물 diallyl disulfide(DADS)의 효과)

  • Objective : The purpose of this study is to investigate the protective effect of DADS on the noise induced hearing loss Methods : Twenty healthy guinea pigs (DADS pretreated group and control) were exposed to 100dB a collected environmental noise for 9 hours. An auditory evoked brainstem response (ABR) threshold was measured before and after a noise exposure. For morphological study, cochlea was studied by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Results : The DADS pretreated group showed statistically significant less changes in ABR threshold and SEM findings compared the control group. Conclusion : From these results suggest that the DADS from garlic may have a protective effect in noise induced hearing loss.

A Unified Channel Thermal Noise Model for Short Channel MOS Transistors

  • A unified channel thermal noise model valid in all operation regions is presented for short channel MOS transistors. It is based on smooth interpolation between weak and strong inversion models and consistent physical model including velocity saturation, channel length modulation, and carrier heating. From testing for noise benchmark and comparing with published noise data, it is shown that the proposed noise model could be useful in simulating the MOSFET channel thermal noise in all operation regions.

  • The road traffic noise becomes aggravated due to the rapid increase of motor vehicles. It has a great effect on the dwelling environment. Therefore we investigate the characteristics and sources of the motor vehicle noise through grasping the status of the motor vehicle noise. Traffic noise results from the collective contribution of the noise produced by individual motor vehicles. The motor vehicle noise varies enormously depending upon its type and mode of operation.

Effect of the Number of Slots on the Acoustic Noise from BLDC Motors (BLDC 전동기의 슬롯수가 소음에 미치는 영향)

  • The goal of this study is to examine the effect of the number of slots on the noise from BLDC motors. To this end, the number of poles was fixed to 4 and the number of the slots was set to 6 or 24 before noise was measured. Motors having different numbers of slots showed clear differences in noise. Cogging torque, torque ripple and normal local force were interpreted, analyzed and compared to determine the reason for the differences. To determine the cause of the noise, cogging torque, torque ripple and normal local force were calculated, which are representative noise sources of BLDC motors, and FFT was performed to analyze their frequency components(harmonics). The results show that torque ripple and normal local force were the dominant factors in the noise difference between the 6-slot and 24-pole motors. As the number of the slots increased, the number of harmonics decreased and their amplitude of harmonic were reduced, which was attributed as the reason for the noise differences.

Gate-to-Drain Capacitance Dependent Model for Noise Performance Evaluation of InAlAs/InGaAs Double-gate HEMT

  • In the present work, the effect of the gate-to-drain capacitance ($C_{gd}$) on the noise performance of a symmetric tied-gate $In_{0.52}Al_{0.48}As/In_{0.53}Ga_{0.47}As$ double-gate HEMT is studied using an accurate charge control based approach. An analytical expression for the gate-to-drain capacitance is obtained. In terms of the intrinsic noise sources and the admittance parameters ($Y_{11}$ and $Y_{21}$ which are obtained incorporating the effect of $C_{gd}$), the various noise performance parameters including the Minimum noise figure and the Minimum Noise Temperature are evaluated. The inclusion of gate-to-drain capacitance is observed to cause significant reduction in the Minimum Noise figure and Minimum Noise Temperature especially at low values of drain voltage, thereby, predicting better noise performance for the device.

  • According to the conventional studies on the noise and cardiovascular effect, railway noise is better associated with hypertension and adverse cardiovascular events than road traffic noise. But the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. We investigated the hypothesis that exposure to acute railway noise would the unfavorable effect of cardiovascular and autonomic system in healthy young subjects. Using a randomized, sham-controlled cross-over design, ten subjects were assigned to receive either an exposure to high speed train noise (84 dB) for 30 minutes or a control condition (non noise), separated by two days. Blood pressure, heart rate, augmentation index and heart rate variability as indices of cardiovascular and autonomic system function were measured at baseline, during, and recovery from two trials. The results show that exposure to acute railway noise significantly increased diastolic blood pressure and augmentation index, which may cause of adverse cardiovascular effects.

Effect of spatial factors on subjective responses to heavy-weight floor impact noise (중량충격음의 주관적 반응에 대한 공간음향요소의 영향)

  • The effect of spatial factors on subjective responses to heavy-weight floor impact noise was investigated. Heavy-weight impact noises were generated and recorded in several apartments and a testing building using impact ball and binaural microphone to measure IACC of the noises. Just noticeable differences (JNDs) of IACC and SPL of heavy-weight impact noise were also investigated. Auditory experiments were conducted using method of limit. It was found that the JNDs of IACC and SPL were 0.12 and 1.5dB, respectively. Contribution of IACC and SPL to annoyance of heavy-weight floor impact noise is being further investigated.
