We present high-resolution near-infrared host galaxy spectra of low-z quasars, PG0844+349 (z=0.064), PG1226+023 (z=0.158), and PG1426+015 (z=0.086). The observation was done by using the near-IR high resolution echelle spectrometer, IRCS, at the SUBARU 8.2 m telescope. The full width at half maximum of the point spread function was about 0.3 arcsec by using an Adaptive Optics system, which can effectively resolve the quasar spectra from the host galaxy spectra. The signal-to-noise ratios are increased by the total exposure time up to several hours per targets and the development of data reduction method. We compare our results to the stellar spectra library and sample spectra from Dasyra et al. (2007) and Watson et al. (2008). The identified spectral lines will be used to study the physical mechanism of quasars, and the velocity dispersions of the stars in the bulge of the host galaxy.
Near-ir spectra have been obtained for the $ν_3$+ Amide II combination thioacetamide(TA) band in CC$l_4$ and TA-DMP in CC$l_4$ in the range of 5 to 55${\circ}C$. Absorbance of the weak bands of the DMP and solvent has been compensated. The spectra are analyzed by the computer resolution into two Lorentzian-Gaussian product bands which have been identified with monomeric TA and 1 : 1 TA-DMP complex. Equilibrium constants and thermodynamic parameters for the hydrogen bonding between TA and DMP have been evaluated by the analysis of the concentration and temperature dependent spectra for the very dilute CC$l_4$ solutions. The $ΔH{\circ} and ΔS{\circ}$ of TA and DMT have been found to be -14.6 kJmo$l^{-1}$ and -16.2 Jmo$l^{-1}$ de$g^{-1}$.

In this work, the diglycidylether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) and modified polyurethane (PU) blends were initiated by N-benzylpyrazinium hexafluoroantimonate (BPH). The cure and fracture toughness of neat DGEBA with the addition of PU were investigated. The cure properties of DGEBA/PU blend system were examined by DSC and near-IR measurements. The fracture touhtness were investigated by measuring the critical stress intensity factor ($K_{IC}$) and the critical strain energy release rate ($G_{IC}$). According to the results, the maximum values of owe activation energy ($E_a$) and conversion (${\alpha}$) were found at 10 phr of PU. Also the $K_{IC}$ showed a similar behavior with the results of conversion. These results were probably due to increase of crosslinking density in the blends resulted from increase of the hydrogen bonding between the hydroxyl groups of DGEBA and isocyanate groups of PU.
In this work, we report detailed numerical analysis of the near-elliptic core index-guiding triangular-lattice and square-lattice photonic crystal fiber (PCFs); where we numerically characterize the birefringence, single mode, cut-off behavior and group velocity dispersion and effective area properties. By varying geometry and examining the modal field profile we find that for the same relative values of $d/{\Lambda}$, triangular-lattice PCFs show higher birefringence whereas the square-lattice PCFs show a wider range of single-mode operation. Square-lattice PCF was found to be endlessly single-mode for higher air-filling fraction ($d/{\Lambda}$). Dispersion comparison between the two structures reveal that we need smaller lengths of triangular-lattice PCF for dispersion compensation whereas PCFs with square-lattice with nearer relative dispersion slope (RDS) can better compensate the broadband dispersion. Square-lattice PCFs show zero dispersion wavelength (ZDW) red-shifted, making it preferable for mid-IR supercontinuum generation (SCG) with highly non-linear chalcogenide material. Square-lattice PCFs show higher dispersion slope that leads to compression of the broadband, thus accumulating more power in the pulse. On the other hand, triangular-lattice PCF with flat dispersion profile can generate broader SCG. Square-lattice PCF with low Group Velocity Dispersion (GVD) at the anomalous dispersion corresponds to higher dispersion length ($L_D$) and higher degree of solitonic interaction. The effective area of square-lattice PCF is always greater than its triangular-lattice counterpart making it better suited for high power applications. We have also performed a comparison of the dispersion properties of between the symmetric-core and asymmetric-core triangular-lattice PCF. While we need smaller length of symmetric-core PCF for dispersion compensation, broadband dispersion compensation can be performed with asymmetric-core PCF. Mid-Infrared (IR) SCG can be better performed with asymmetric core PCF with compressed and high power pulse, while wider range of SCG can be performed with symmetric core PCF. Thus, this study will be extremely useful for designing/realizing fiber towards a custom application around these characteristics.
We report the distance modulus of nearby dwarf irregular galaxy NGC 6822 estimated from the so-called Tip of Red-giant Branch (TRGB) method. To detect the apparent magnitudes of the TRGB we use the color-magnitude diagrams (CMDs) and luminosity functions (LFs) in the near-infrared JHK bands. Foreground stars, main-sequence stars, and supergiant stars have been classified on the (g - K, g) plane and removed on the near-infrared CMDs, from which only RGB and AGB stars are remained on the CMDs and LFs. By applying the Savitzky-Golay filter to the obtained LFs and detecting the peak in the second derivative of the observed LFs, we determined the apparent magnitudes of the TRGB. Theoretical absolute magnitudes of the TRGB are estimated from Yonsei-Yale isochrones with the age of 12Gyr and the metallicity range of -2.0 <[Fe/H]< -0.5. The derived values of distance modulus to NGC 6822 are (m - M) = $23.35{\pm}0.26$, $23.20{\pm}0.42$, and $23.27{\pm}0.50$ for J, H, and K bands, respectively. Distance modulus in bolometric magnitude is also derived as (m - M) = $23.41{\pm}0.17$. We compare the derived values of the TRGB distance modulus to NGC 6822 in the near-infrared bands with the previous results in other bands.

This work is for the preliminary study for the calibration of an $^{192}Ir$ brachytherapy source based on an absorbed dose to water standards. In order to calibrate brachytherapy sources based on absorbed dose to water standards using a clyndirical ionization chamber, the beam quality correction factor $k_{Q,Q_0}$ is needed. In this study $k_{Q,Q_0}s$ were determined by both Monte carlo simulation and semiexperimental methods because of the realistic difficulties to use primary standards to measure an absolute dose at a specified distance. The 5 different serial numbers of the PTW30013 chamber type were selected for this study. While chamber to chamber variations ran up to maximum 4.0% with the generic $k^{gen}_{Q,Q_0}$, the chamber to chamber variations were within a maximum deviation of 0.5% with the individual $k^{ind}_{Q,Q_0}$. The results show why and how important ionization chambers must be calibrated individually for the calibration of $^{192}Ir$ brachytherapy sources based on absorbed dose to water standards. We hope that in the near future users will be able to calibrate the brachytherapy sources in terms of an absorbed dose to water, the quantity of interest in the treatment, instead of an air kerma strength just as the calibration in the high energy photon and electron beam.
In dose modeling, the shape of actual source and sealed capsule are important parameter to determine the physical dose computation. The author investigated the effect of filter of source self-absorption and sealed capsule to designed the high dose rate Ir-192 source for Ralstron(Japan) unit. The size of source designed to 1.5 mm $\Phi$ x 1.5mm length of actual source sealed with stainless steel which is 3.0mm $\Phi$ x 12.0mm length connected to driving cable. The dose attenuation was derived 66.3 % from 2655 segmented source at reference point of 10mm lateral distance of source. The output dose rate factor in tissue for designed source showed 0.0013511 cGy/mCi-sec in reference point at 1cm lateral distance of source center. The dose distribution at inferior of source showed the 52% of that of source tip region, however, the filtering effect was small as 4% at 45degrees of source axis. The dose attenuation within 20 degrees of source axis at near source-cable connector showed large filtering effect as 40% over, but the small effect was revealed isotropic dose distribution at large angle.

In order to provide an information as input data of possible storm surges in advance, the typhoon center and maximum wind position analysis scheme must be developed for the initialization of pressure and wind field. This study proposes a semi-automatical and objective analysis method and a procedure on a real time basis using the satellite TBB data of the GMS IR1, NOAA satellite CH4 and CH5, and shows the result of an experimental analysis. It includes a simple method of determining the parameters of the typhoon using minimum top temperature of the convective cloud near the inner eyewall. The method analyzing the isotropic cross sectional variation of TBB gradient from center to environment was developed to determine the center of Rmax of typhoon. This position of intense eyewall from typhoon center can be considered as the position of maximum wind. The results of estimation of typhoon center show very good agreement to the results of synoptic analysis. It is found that the Rmax is approximately 50-200km. From the comparison of the GMS and NOAA IR TBB data, it is found that the Rmax from NOAA data tends to be longer than those from GMS data.

After the grafting of methacrylic acid (MA) to ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM), a new peak at $1704cm^{-1}$ corresponding to the carboxylic acid group was observed in the infrared (IR) spectrum. This characteristic MA molecule peak grew larger as the MA contents were increased. After casting films were prepared from pure EPDM and MA-grafted EPDM, differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) measurements were made the pure EPDM exhibited a melting point of approximately $45^{\circ}C$ while that of the MA-grafted EPDM was $135{\sim}140^{\circ}C$. As the graft ratio of MA increased, the absorbed heat capacity increased at temperatures near $135{\sim}140^{\circ}C$, indicating that an increased amount of MA reacted. Furthermore, owing to the addition of crystalline MA, it is expected that strength of the elastomer will improve as the graft ratio increases, as a result of the increased number of hard segments.
The aim of our study is to develop new algorism for sea fog detection by using Geostational Meteorological Satellite-5(GMS-5) and suggest the techniques of its continuous detection. So as to detect daytime sea fog/stratus(00UTC, May 10, 1999), visible accumulated histogram method and surface albedo method are used. The characteristic value during daytime showed A(min) > 20% and DA < 10% when visble accumulated histogram method was applied. And the sea fog region which detected is of similarity in composite image and surface albedo method. In case of nighttime sea fog(18UTC, May 10, 1999), infrared accumulated histogram method and maximum brightness temperature method are used, respectively. Maximum brightness temperature method(T_max method) detected sea fog better than IR accumulated histogram method. In case of T_max method, when infrared value is larger than T_max, fog is detected, where T_max is an unique value, maximum infrared value in each pixel during one month. Then T_max is beneath 700hpa temperature of GDAPS(Global Data Assimilation and Prediction System). Sea fog region which detected by T_max method was similar to the result of National Oceanic and Atmosheric Administration/Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (NOAA/AVHRR) DCD(Dual Channel Difference). But inland visibility and relative humidity didn't always agreed well.
