To ensure the operational safety of nuclear power plants, we present a Quadruped Inspection Robot that can be used for many types of steam generators. Since the Inspection Robot relies on the Holding Modules to grip the tube-sheet, it can be regarded as a hybrid robot with variable configurations, switching between 4-RRR-RR, 3-RRR-RR, and two types of 2-RRR-RR, and the variable configurations bring a great challenge to dimensional synthesis. In this paper, the kinematic model of the Inspection Robot in multiple configurations is established, and the analytical solution is given. The workspace mapping is analyzed by the solution-space, and the workspace of multiple configurations is decomposed into the workspace of 2-RRR to reduce the analysis complexity, and the workspace calculation is simplified by using the envelope rings. The optimization problem of the manipulator is transformed into the calculation of the shortest contraction length of the swing leg. The switching performance of the Inspection Robot is evaluated by stride-length, turning-angle, and workspace overlap-ratio. The performance indexes are classified and transformed based on the proportions and variation trends of dimensional parameters to reduce the number of optimization objective functions, and Pareto optimal solutions are obtained using an intelligent optimization algorithm.

We consider user pairing and resource allocation for the uplink of cellular systems employing virtual multiple input multiple output (MIMO). As a multiple access scheme, discrete Fourier transform spread orthogonal frequency division multiple access (DFTS-OFDMA) is adopted for more flexible resource allocation than single carrier (SC)-OFDMA adopted in the Long Term Evolution (LTE) system. We formulate the optimization problems of user pairing and resource allocation to maximize the throughput of the DFTS-OFDMA system under different constraints. The DFTS-OFDMA allowing non-contiguous subcarrier allocation and redundant user assignment provides a better throughput than the SC-FDMA at lower complexity in finding the optimal solution but at the cost of the increased control information indicating the allocated resources.
This study reports the microfluidic preparation of monodisperse multiple emulsions using hydrodynamic control. To generate multiple emulsions, we fabricate a microfluidic capillary device based on co-flowing stream without any surface modification of microchannels. Based on the system, we can successfully generate multiple emulsions (W/O/W) using water containing 0.5 wt% Tween 20, n-hexadecane with 5 wt% Span 80, and 10 wt% poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) aqueous solution, respectively. Furthermore, we control the number of inner droplets by modulation of flow rate of inner fluid at fixed flow rate of middle and outer fluid. The multiple emulsions having precisely controlled inner droplets' size and number can be applicable for multiple chemical reactions as an isolated microreactor.

'Divisor and multiple' is the topic included both in the elementary and in the secondary mathematics curriculum, but there has been lack of research on it. It has been reported that students have a difficulty in understanding the meaning of the greatest common divisor (GCD) and the least common multiple (LCM), while they can find out GCD and LCM. Against the lack of research on how to overcome this difficulty, this study designed teaching methods with a model for visualization to emphasize the meanings of divisor and multiple in finding out GCD and LCM, and implemented the methods in one fourth grade classroom. A questionnaire was developed to explore students' solution methods and interviews with focused students were implemented. In addition, fourth-grade students' thinking was compared and contrasted with fifth-grade students who studied divisor and multiple with the current textbook. The results of this study showed that the teaching methods with a specific model for visualization had a positive impact on students' conceptual understanding of the process to find out GCD and LCM. As such, this study provides instructional implications on how to foster the meanings of finding out GCD and LCM at the elementary school.

A higher order panel method based on B-spline representation for both the geometry and the velocity potential is developed for the solution of the flow around two-dimensional lifting bodies. Unlike Lee/Kerwin, who placed multiple control points on each panel and solved the overdetermined system of equation by the least square approach, the present method places only as many number of control points as required by the unknowns of the problem. Especially, a null pressure jump Kutta condition at the trailing edge is found to be effective in stabilizing the solution process and in predicting the correct solution. The new approach, is validated to be accurate through comparison with the analytic solution for a 2-D airfoil and to be less time-consuming due to fewer number of panels required than that used in Lee/Kerwin.
The selection of suppliers and the determination of order quantities to be placed with those suppliers are important decisions in a supply chain. In this research, a non-linear mixed integer programming model is presented to select suppliers and determine the order quantities. The model considers the purchasing cost which takes into account quantity discount, the cost of transportation, the fixed cost for establishing suppliers, the cost for holding inventory, and the cost of receiving poor quality parts. The capacity constraints for suppliers, quality and lead-time requirements for the parts are also taken into account in the model. Since the purchasing cost, which is a decreasing step function of order quantities, introduces discontinuities to the non-linear objective function, it is not easy to employ traditional optimization methods. Thus, a heuristic algorithm, called particle swarm optimization (PSO), is used to find the (near) optimal solution. However, PSO usually generates initial solutions randomly. To improve the PSO solution quality, a heuristic procedure is proposed to find an initial solution based on the average unit cost including transportation, purchasing, inventory, and poor quality part cost. The results show that PSO with the proposed initial solution heuristic provides better solutions than those with PSO algorithm only.

Ferroelectric L $a_2$$Ti_2$$O_{7}$(LTO) thin films were prepared by chemical solution deposition processes. Acetylacetone was used as chelating agent and nitric acid was added in the stock solution to control hydrolysis and condensation reaction rate. The LTO thin films were spin-coated on Pt/Ti/ $SiO_2$/(100)Si and Pt/Zr $O_2$/ $SiO_2$/(100)Si substrates. After multiple coating, dried thin films were heat-treated for decomposition of residual organics and crystallization. The role of acetylacetone in Ti iso-propoxide stabilization by possibly substituting $O^{i}$Pr ligand was studied by H-NMR. B site-rich impurity phase, i.e. L $a_4$$Ti_{9}$$O_{24}$, was found after annealing, where its appearance was dependent on process temperature indicating the possible reaction with substrate. Dielectric and other relevant electrical properties were measured and the results were compared between modified sol-gel and MOD processes.s.s.

It is imperative to find environment-friendly coatings as an alternative to the currently used hexavalent chromate conversion coatings for the purpose of improving the anti-corrosion properties of aluminum alloys. Hence, in this study, the corrosion properties of a trivalent chromate conversion coating solution are analyzed and measured. Because of the presence of multiple components in trivalent chromate conversion coating solutions, it is difficult to control plating, attributed to their mutual organic relationship. It is of significance to determine the concentrations of the components present in these coatings; hence, qualitative and quantitative analysis is required. The coating solution contained not only an environment-friendly component chromium(III), but also zirconium, fluorine, sulfur, and potassium, in the coating film. These metals are confirmed to produce a film with improved corrosion resistance to form a thin layer. The excellent corrosion resistance for the trivalent chromate solution is attributed to various inorganic and organic additives.

The team orienteering problem (TOP) or the multiple tour maximum collection problem can be considered as a generic model that can be applied to a number of challenging applications in logistics, tourism, and other fields. This problem is generally defined as the problem of determining P paths, in which the traveling time of each path is limited by $T_{max}$ that maximizes the total collected score. In the TOP, a set of N vertices i is given, each with a score $S_i$. The starting point (vertex 1) and the end point (vertex N) of all paths are fixed. The time $t_{ij}$ needed to travel from vertex i to j is known for all vertices. Some exact and heuristics approaches had been proposed in the past for solving the TOP. This paper proposes a new solution methodology for solving the TOP using the particle swarm optimization, especially by proposing a solution representation and its decoding method. The performance of the proposed algorithm is then evaluated using several benchmark datasets for the TOP. The computational results show that the proposed algorithm using specific settings is capable of finding good solution for the corresponding TOP instance.

Oxide buffer layers for YBCO coated conductors were fabricated using MOD processing and development of microstructure and texture were investigated. A $CeO_2$ buffer layers were formed on RABiTS tape. Acetate-based precursor solution was employed to synthesize the precursor solution. Subsequently, the precursor solution was stabilized and modified with triethanolamine. $CeO_2$ precursor gel film was coated and annealed in $Ar/H_2$ atmosphere at high temperature. An annealed $CeO_2$ film shows mixed orientation with high (001) texturing. It was shown that (111) texture of $CeO_2$ layers were enhanced by multiple coating. This degradation was attributed to development of microcracks in the multiply coated $CeO_2$ films. Also discussed are the synthesis and the characterization of $La_2Zr_2O_7$ (LZO) buffer layers on RABiTS tape. A biaxially textured LZO buffer layer was fabricated with MOD processing method using metal alkoxide based precursor solution. It was shown that the LZO film were epitaxially grown on RABiTS tape and crack-free & uniform surface was obtained after annealing in $Ar/H_2$ atmosphere.
