Design and Implementation of the Traffic and Travel Information Service for Terrestrial DMB System (T-DMB에서의 교통여행정보서비스 설계 및 구현)

  • DMB video/audio service was successfully launched. DMB data service is a matter of primary concern now. The TTI(Traffic and Travel Information) service is considered as a killer application of the data service. Tn this paper, we propose a method for design and implementation of the broadcasting system for TTI service. The proposed TTI service system consists of an authoring tool, the DB module, the Transmission module and Monitoring module. This system satisfies the national TTA standards of the Traffic and Travel Information data services for terrestrial DMB; TPEG(Transport Protocol Experts Group) platform. The system was designed to support real-time automatic transmission for CTT and CTT SUM, and non real-time authoring & automatic transmission for POI and SDI, and was focused on the capability to make high-quality contents efficiently and to send them to the data inserter reliably. The performance of the implemented system was proven through the conformance tests with the various commercial receivers. After the continuous upgrade, the system is being used in commercial service.

  • Recently, with the excessive uses of Internet, virtual spaces for the on-line introduced VRML are emerging. The inhabited virtual world includes a complex process and human experiences. The VR interactivity is now being examined, and it is the important aspect for creating VR application which may include navigating the virtual world, turning features on and off, and interacting with other users. Therefore, the study of this field is favored with a competitive advantage to the present and future multimedia designer. Thus, the subject of this thesis is for the design of virtual world, focusing on interactivity. The contents include the types of the VR interactivity, and their classifying and studying, according to the existing theories based on the literature and web sites. The types are for the user navigation, for the user interactions with other users and objects, and for the creation of metaphors. As the results of this study, it is suggested the effective application and the proposal.

  • The Web is rich with various sources of information. It contains the contents of documents, multimedia data, shopping materials and so on. Due to the massive and heterogeneous web document collections, users want to find various types of target pages. We can classify user queries as three categories according to users'intent, content search, the site search, and the service search. In this paper, we present that different strategies are needed to meet the need of a user. Also we show the properties of content information, link information and URL information according to the class of a user query. In the content search, content information showed the good result. However, we lost the performance by combining link information and URL information. In the site search, we could increase the performance by combining link information and URL information.

  • Advances in new information technology enable practitioners at construction sites to capture image information on overall sites and various work results through digital cameras. Also more and more government agencies and clients are accepting construction site information in a digital format. This research developed an Internet-based construction image information management system for effective construction management and sharing information among project participants. This system named CiMS provides a way to store/search/share site image information by representing the information through the combination of work items, work areas, performing companies, captured dates and purposes. CiMS has been applied in a real construction project for system refinement and verification. It is expected that CiMS can improve the construction site photo management paradigm, and the contents of CiMS can be incorporated into the corporate knowledge database.

A Study of Story Visualization Based on Variation of Characters Relationship by Time (등장인물들의 시간적 관계 변화에 기초한 스토리 가시화에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose and describe the system to visualize the story of contents such as movies and novels. Character-net is applied as story model in order to visualize story. However, it is the form to be accumulated for total movie story, though it can depict the relationship between characters. We have developed the system that analyzes and shows the variation of Character-net and characters' tendency in order to represent story variation depending on movie progression. This system is composed by two windows that can play and analyze sequential Character-nets by time, and can analyze time variant graph of characters' degree centrality. First window has a function that supports to find important story points like the scenes that main characters appear or meet firstly. Second window supports a function that track each character's tendency or a variation of his tendency through analyzing in-degree graph and out-degree. This paper describes the proposed system and discusses additional requirements.

  • In this study, a digital textbook was developed for effective career and vocational education of students with disabilities. The contents of developed digital textbook consisted of 'lesson 15: Sale(1)' of middle school career and vocational education of basic curriculum. It progresses six periods and each topic activities are composed of open learning, learning activity 1, learning activity 2, and organized learning in order. NamoPubTreeEditor Program was used to develop the text book in the study, digital textbooks were designed to be compatible with various devices including smartphone of android operating system, Tablet PC, the iOS system, iphone, ipad, etc. In addition, it was designed to offer a variety of learning materials such as sale multimedia materials, glossary, evaluation questions, and linked data related to sale, supported self-motivated learning. allowed students to evaluate their study for the learning of students with disabilities.

  • A mobile device accesses large-sized data in object-based IP storage as an object unit over IP network. It relies heavily on a WLAN device, which has been known as one of the major power consumers. This paper designs and implements low-power object-based IP storage for mobile devices using an efficient WLAN power control. The proposed WLAN power control exploits prefetch buffer to maximize the idleness for incoming network traffic and controls available WLAN power modes to minimize the power consumption. Our experimental results reveal that the proposed WLAN control can save the total power consumption in a PXA270-based mobile device about 9% while playing the multimedia contents through an object-based IP storage device

  • The development of information system and communication gave us new education model, called remote education. And the remote education, being free from constraint of time and space and using various multimedia resources, has helped and substituted public educations, and has enlarged the area because of a lot of advantages and educational possibility compared to public educations. But it is very insufficient to study on analysis system which can analyze the learner and improve the educational process compared to various contents and education methods. In this study, we realized web-based item pool system which can remove the inefficiency of making duplicated and one-time used questions and which can manage and evaluate learners' achievements more efficiently. This program can give us quality improvement of remote education by raising efficiency of production with various pattern of paper making and item pool type management of items made and by executing high quality analysis with various pattern to the learner.

  • In this paper, a web-based, advanced education system for embedded systems have been implemented, which provide students reality through remote controlled experiment environment when they conduct experiments through web, in addition to the creative multimedia contents. Students can use the server-side remote experiment environment through telnet client using Java technology to conduct a variety of experiments on the embedded system remotely. Our system can be used as economical education tools for expensive experiment equipments in shared fashion through web as well as effective and convenient ones for embedded systems anywhere and anytime when internet access is available, compensating for lack in reality of virtual educations.

A Study on the Influence of System Quality and Synchronization Factors for Learning Performance in e-Learning: The Mediating Effect of Learning Flow (e-러닝의 시스템품질과 동기화요인이 학업성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 : 학습몰입의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • Recently, the development of ICT(information & communications technology) with the advent of new media paradigm shift in learning has brought a dramatic impact on the competitiveness of universities. The previous studies on the academic performance of e-learning mainly targeted on e-learning users, studying additional synchronization and system quality factors to measure academic performance. This study empirically analyzed the learning flow and academic performance considering both DeLone & McLean model system quality and synchronizing factors based on ARCS model. Relating to quality and synchronization factors, the academic performance of e-learning system was tested, and the difference between learning flow and academic performance was also analyzed based on time-series data, by the test difference(in the beginning, during, and final of the semester). The results of the study are as follows. First, the study shows that both system quality and synchronization directly affected the learning performance. Thus, when designing e-learning system, it is necessary to consider these two factors at the same time. Second, the indirectly mediating effect on the system quality and synchronization factors turned out to be significant in learning flow. Third, the result of regression analysis on the contents of utilizing dummy variable presents that the teacher's explanation has greater influence than multimedia has to the academic performance, and furthermore, the test difference showed no significance. Further research should be undertaken to consider the learner's degree of acceptance which reflects various aspects for building m-learning or u-learning.
