  • There are various causes for noise production in induction motors, and among them, the noise generated by magnetic vibrating distribution forces have an important meanings. In this paper, the magnetic vibrating distribution forces in squirrelcage induction motors were arranged systematically in the consideration of stator harmonics and it's forces were not considered the effection of airgap eccentricity and deformation. With the application of the finite element method in order to find magnetic flux density and with the calculation of the permeance of rotor node, the magnetic vibrating distribution forces were analyzed.

  • An attractive approach to speed of induction motors is to achieve full linearization via appropriate feedback. However, the prior results toward this direction are based on full feedback. In practice, rotor fluxes are not directly measurable but can be estimated using observers. We propose a nonlinear feedback controller with an observer. As t${\rightarrow}{\infty}$, the closed-loop system with our controller becomes as if it were a linearly decoupled system. We provide the stability analysis of our control method. Simulation and experimental results are also included to demonstrate the practical significance of our results.

  • The torque ripple reduction method is studied to improve the speed fluctuation of permanent magnet flat type brushless DC motors. To reduce the torque ripple, this study developed the compensation method of the 5'th harmonics component of air gap flux waveform which pass through the driving coils. 1/2 inch VTR was considered. As the result of this study, we can reduce the torque ripple and the speed fluctuation of the capstan motor about 20% then before and we can obtain not only better characteristics of wow/flutter but more useful capstan motors which can be applied in the multi-function VTRs.

  • As the capacity of DC motor is increased, we should recheck several encountered problems like volume increase. Particularly, when a large DC motor should be installed within the limited space, it is necessary to minimize the volume of motor for the effective utilization of the limited space. This paper describes the procedure and the method of finding optimum design of a large DC motor. The result of the optimization will decide the basic dimensions of a large DC motor. The flexible tolerance method and polyhedron searching method are used in this optimization. This result of simulation of the existing large DC motors is compared with the data of the existing large DC motors to confirm the validity of this optimum design.

  • A control approach for the robust position control of induction motors based on the binary disturbance observer is described. The conventional binary disturbance observer is used to remove the chattering problem of a sliding mode disturbance observer. However, the steady state error may exist in the conventional binary disturbance observer because it estimates external disturbance with a constant boundary layer. In order to overcome this problem, new binary disturbance observer with an integral augmented switching hyperplane is proposed. The robustness is achieved, and the continuous control is realized by employing the proposed observer without the chattering problem and the steady state error. The effectiveness of the proposed observer is confirmed by the comparative experimental results.

  • The low-voltage induction motors have been widely driven by IGBT PWM inverters, ever since it was used to apply variable speed drives. Recently, the insulation failures of the stator windings become critical problems due to the high ratio of dv/dt in IGBT PWM inverters. In this paper, the detailed insulation tests on the IGBT PWM inverter fed induction motor are carried out. Five different types of insulation techniques are used to ti induction motors. The change of the insulation characteristics such as partial discharge, AC current, capacitance, and dissipation factor are compared. respectively In addition, insulation breakdown tests using the high voltage pulse are performed, and corresponding breakdown voltages are analyzed.

  • This paper describes the problems associated with the use of PWM ASDs to drive induction motors. A major effect of harmonic voltages and currents in induction motors is increased heating due to iron and copper losses at harmonic frequencies. The harmonic components thus affect the motor efficiency, and can also affect the torque developed. In order to investigate the effect of harmonics which is caused by using of nonlinear load at the low voltage system, we fixed up simple load model and measured the voltage and current. Measurement. results show that additional operation of linear load at the parallel bus in using nonlinear load such as ASD is helpful to the reduction of harmonic current.

  • This paper deals with analysis method of single-phase line-start permanent magnet motors. Unbalanced magnetic fields produced by single-phase input make analysis difficult. To solve this unbalanced magnetic fields, this paper proposed symmetrical components transformations as well as d-q axis ones. Parameters in d-q voltage equations were calculated by Finite Element Analysis.

  • In this paper, a drive system for multi-phase bipolar brushless DC (MPB BLDC) motor is presented. This drive system is used for an electric bicycle. In general, the maximum and minimum speed of electric bicycle are required by law. At first, the proposed controller is satisfied for the limited speed control. Secondly, the system has a technique of exited with modulation(EWM), bidirection control, and partial square wave control. Thirdly, the controller is designed for system stability Experimental results show the performance of the proposed controller of MPB BLDC motors for an electric bicycle.

  • The purpose of this paper is to introduce a case study of developing a miniature biped robot. The biped robot has a total of twenty-one degrees of freedom(DOF) ; There are two legs which have six DOF each, two arms which have three DOF each and a waist which has three DOF. RC servo-motors were used as actuators. We have developed motor controller, sensor controller and ISA-interface card. Motor controller, PWM generator, can control eight motors Sensor controller is connected to eight FSR(Force Sensing Resistors). For high level controller communicate with low level controller, ISA-interface card has developed. For the stable walking, CMAC(Cerebellar Model Articulation Controller) neural network algorithm is applied to our system CMAC is robust at noise.
